I'm done reading the Board for the rest of the night. Enough already!
CC: D. Brandon timeline; good, bad or forced?
Since I last posted this video:
Somehow I doubt that. Not you.
As I've said before, the longer it takes for DB to make a formal announcement, the greater the chance are that RR will continue to be our coach next year. The timeline works in RR's favor.
If a coaching change is going to be made, you make it at the end of the regular season and before the bowls. The decision to dump Rodriguez would have had been made a couple months ago. All this Harbaugh talk is so much white noise.
If a coaching change is going to be made, you make it at the end of the regular season and before the bowls.
Not if the coach you're planning to hire is busy with a bowl of his own.
If that's the case, then help me understand how Brandon's unwillingness to publicly endorse RR provides a benefit to RR and supports his efforts as head coach? What is his incentive to make the job (and life) of a valued employee so much more challenging?
Do you think RR feels as reassured by the timeline as you do?
I'd like to agree with you. I'm an RR supporter and thinks he deserves another year, but waiting it out makes me feel the opposite. The $1.5 million that comes off RR's buyout and letting JH come in after coaching his team makes me worry. Plus, if we perform poorly in the bowl game it gives DB another excuse.
I'm really confused and concerned on what is going to happen and why we can't have an answer right now.
How much does the bowl game factor into a seasons performance? I know the evaluation would be "incomplete" if DB didn't want until after the bowl, but I think that this recruiting mess could really come back and kill us. He is doing RR, JH, and the football program as a whole a big disservice by waiting this out.
That is the silliest assertion I have seen in this debate thus far.
I have said this before and will say it again, the ONLY way this timeline ends up being justifiable is if JH is brought in after the bowl game. If that isn't the case, this was a mistake.
As to the OP's assertion that you couldn't endourse RR after the regular season without also making a decision on the defense, I say that is false. In most situations, it isn't the AD's job to make a decision about the staff under the HC. All DB would have to do is say RR is staying publicly while telling RR personally that something had to be done about the defense following the bowl game.
Sorry, but the only way this timeline is forced is if JH is the target and the timeline is being driven by him (which may well be the case, but at this point none of us know).
If RR is the coach, announcing it before the bowl game can open up a big can of worms. Why, will you ask? Think about it. What the next question will be? What about Greg Robinson and the defensive staff? Are they coming back?
All he has to say is "We'll be evaluating individual position coaches at a later date." Done.
IMHO, I think that is kind of hard. What if he has a disagreement with Coach Rod when discussing the staff. Are you going to fire him after stating before the bowl that you support him.
I thought it was crazy for DB not to support or fire Coach Rod right after the Game. But, I think I am starting to maybe comprehend it. I may still be totally wrong. But, the delay is starting to make sense. Problem is that recruiting will take a hit.
Yeah those half-ass answers have worked so well with the press lately, especially Freep.
Right - but it's a lot bigger deal when its the head coach. The national media cares about RR and his job security, but not about the defensive coaches. The local media cares about the defensive staff, but they aren't going to beat it into the ground like they do with RR.
I hope you are right, but I don't trust the press anymore. They will not stop until RR is fired.
The AD's job is to determine who the HC is and that is the question everyone else wants answered. It is the job of the HC to make changes to his staff, so DB saying RR will stay has nothing to do with whether the D coaches return and I don't think the media are so uninformed that they don't realize that.
It would be perfectly normal for a HC to evaluate his staff after a bowl game under these circumstances. For an AD to wait to decide whether to fire or retain a HC until after a bowl game under these circumstances is another question entirely.
Is it january 1 yet?
The Bud Bowl back, I laughed so hard when they put the 40 oz'er in on the goal line.
Because you touch yourself at night.
Not as funny, but I am sure you will like: SFW (besides some language):
I trust that he'll keep rr. What puzzles me, however, is the urgency on the part of Domino's to convince me that their pizza is NOT made from toe nail clippings, red fingerpaint and buffalo snot. That never crossed my mind...that is...until those ads came out.
Wait a sec? Its either Rodriguez or Harbaugh
I did not know that
The CC thread preface should be changed to CCNGH = Coaching Change Not Gonna Happen
I like that better than the "Rob is going to give you a high five!" sequence.
Perfectly timed for when my sanity was about to reach its breaking point.
Either way, this is not good for recruiting. If DB wants RR back, he needs to say so. Recruits can then decide. IMHO, waiting only means a change is coming.
And there's a piece of me that wonders what all these coaching change threads do to influence any recruits that happen to poke around this blog / the Internetz. I think it's time we line up behind Rodriguez because like it or not, he's on the sidelines.
someone needs to explain the difference between being on the inside and reading about being on the inside. What are they going to do when the articles are about them?
About time to line up? I'm sorta slow, so I got in line 3 years ago. Thanks. Would you like a seat on the bandwagon?
What kind of faith is RR going to have in DB in the future? If it takes 5 weeks for DB to give a thumbs up to RR, do you really think it is a solid thumbs up and one that he is going to truly believe in? He is gone after the bowl game, there is just no other way to look at it.
If I completed a year long project at work and my boss took 5 weeks to tell me what he thinks of me and my project, let's just say any faith I had in my job security would be gone.
Nothing says "Michigan Man" like a good a cappella version of a Katy Perry song--sung by prep school boys.
Josh Groban in Glee.....wellllll.....
DB is waiting for RR to find another DC... ASAP... It's basic CYA.
If they can find a big name DC and get a bowl win he'll take alot less heat for keeping RR.
Even without a win in the Gator Bowl (which I think DB is praying for as much as anyone)... RR stays and GERG is the sacrificial lamb.
"Doing something like this IS a bad CEO decision because will divide the coaching stuff..."
Are you talking about that little stuffed animal coaching dude? He's loyal...won't be divided
