I can only read part of this article, but this is the second article in a matter of days that suggests Stoops ought to leave Norman.

If he does come available than he(in my mind) is 2nd or 3rd on the list. He fields good defenses, runs a spread, and has a national title. If Harbaugh is a no-go than Stoops would be a very strong second option if he is willing to leave Norman.

You say viable candidates that we know about, who knows who will become available, I wouldn't be surprised if bob stoops does part ways with Oklahoma in the next couple of years if not it's year. Hell, RR seemed untouchable a few years ago and we found out he was available through the back channels. Stay tuned...

It would be worse than the Hoke hire.  Hiring Mark Stoops would be atrocious.  The guy has been coaching for two years.  He went 0-8 in the SEC last year and is 2-5 right now (with home wins against 0-6 Vanderbilt and 2-5 South Carolina).  Yes, Kentucky is 5-5, but that's only because they've played UT-Martin, Ohio, and UL-Monroe out of conference.  Hoke's record wasn't deserving of being hired by Michigan, but he had been a coach of the year in two conferences prior to his hire (the MAC and Mountain West).

The floor for this next hire needs to be set somewhere around a Todd Graham type.  I'm confident that someone with Graham's profile/stature or better will agree to come if Michigan pursues hard enough and offers a generous enough contract.  Mark Stoops is several steps beneath that floor.

LSU is young this year and is still 7-3 in the most stacked Division in a long time... next year they're probably going to be Pre-Season #1... I doubt Miles leaves... That ship probably sailed the last 2 times ago...

Then again who knows.

Neather article says anything about Stoops wanting or needing to leave OU.  Wenzel actually proclames just the opposite.  Money quote from the the Wenzel article:  http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-michigan-should-call-bob-stoops-232902…

"Stoops isn't looking for a job, of course. He's in his 16th season at Oklahoma, works for an athletic director and a school president who are trusted confidants and makes $5.25 million a year. He's built a legacy. He's synonymous with the program. He's under no pressure – outside of the depths of message board frustration."

Many times articles are just parroted looking for those all imoprtant clicks.

Because he wouldn't accept the job, or because Michigan wouldn't hire him?

From everything I have read over the last 7 years (grain of salt) it has been repeatedly stated that Les would never say no to Michigan and I think he's now wearing out his welcome in Baton Rouge.

If the Lloyd Carr crowd has any say, then Miles will never get offered.  But if Harbaugh says no, then Miles has to be on a very short list.  The guy just wins, and he does it in the toughest division in the toughtest conference every year.

Name another coach that Saban struggles beating more than Miles?.....There isn't one.  Even when Miles' teams are young and somewhat undisciplined.  I think LSU lost that game due to play calling on both sides of the ball more than the head coach.

Graham is younger and more innovative, but Miles is proven in grown man football.

but if the people in Norman are stupid enough to shove him out, we'd be crazy not to welcome him with open arms if Harbaugh isn't an option.

And he could bring Castiglione with him.

I know Bob stoops at one point was winning and going to Bcs games, but that was the past I don't think he's the right coach for Michigan. He has had a lot of 5 star recruits especially from the state of Texas and a lot of them haven't turned out to be great players, I see him as another HoKe great recruiter but can't coach a player up

The idea behind bowl games is that you should get matched up against a team that's roughly as good as yours.  Going .500 is the expectation.  Stoops has been in a ton of major bowl games, which makes an 8-7 record pretty impressive.  In order, he's gone to the Independence, Orange (OU's nat'l title year), Cotton, Rose, Sugar, Orange, Holiday, Fiesta, Fiesta, BCS NC Game, Sun, Fiesta, Insight, Cotton, and Sugar.  That's damn good.  And those were consecutive years -- there weren't any missed bowl games in there.

And do you know what Nick Saban's record is in bowl games?  8-7.

because he is an Ohio guy. His family along with the Pelini brothers are like coaching fraternity in that state. So his hire from that standpoint might help Michigan land more Ohio kids than it has in recent time while also opening up new recruiting territory in Oklahoma.

I don't think Stoops would necessarily come to Michigan because of his family roots, but I do think Oklahoma is similar to Michigan in football tradition and he has a solid track record.

I would much prefer Jim Harbaugh like everyone else, but Stoops would be an even better backup choice than Mullen because of his career success, which far surpasses Harbaugh. The other interesting thing is that Joe Castiglione, the Oklahoma AD, has been mentioned as a possible Michigan target as Brandon's successor, and he would have the inside knowledge on what Stoops is thinking and whether he might come to Ann Arbor in the event Harbaugh wasn't available.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that he'd leave Norman for anything other than retirement, but people said the same about about RichRod at West Virginia.

He'd be a pretty darn good hire. Recruits well, and usually has pretty good teams. My only problem with him is his teams often fail to live up to pre-season expectations. But he'd definitely make us competitive, and he'd give Meyer and Dantonio a run for their money every year,

but my money would be on him staying South.  I think he would more likely tahke the Florida job rather than Michigan.  Maybe he can get a crack at the SEC.
