CBS ranks CFB Stadia...where's my blood pressure medicine?

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/14733939/dodd-top-25-college-football-stadiums

Wow wow wow wow, I mean really? Wow

I sense a rise in sales at Ann Arbor Torch and Pitchfork, Co.

I mean, who cares what Dodd says and all but I'm trying to figure out a way to type all the bad words at once...or come up with some new "uber" curse word to describe how I'm feeling

edit: Michigan Stadium is 15th for those who don't want to click..LSU #1, tsio#3, PSU, WIS & NEB all tied at #7

The architecture is growing on me.  I didn't like it at first because one of the things I liked about Michigan Stadium was that it didn't really tower over the surrounding area.  If you drove by on Stadium or Main, you could shake your head in disbelief that it holds so many people.  Now, there is no doubt that it is big.  I like how they tried to maintain the 30ish look to it though.  I just wish they would have kept the 30ish font "Michigan Stadium" on the outside.

Michigan should be higher.  The stadium is beautiful now.  Not to mention that it inspired ND's stadium.  Although the whole atmosphere and fans thing really does hurt it.  I once gave  some flak to an old alumni wearing a red jacket during the OSU game.  He said he didn't care because he likes his jacket and keeps him warm.  He was wearing other UM gear and that's all that matters.  That whole experience sums up a lot of the game day atmosphere outside the student section (which at least in my day, even there it was tough to get even a half-assed Maize out it seemed).  That kind of stuff, I feel, would literally get you killed in Columbus if you wore yellow.

Rankings such as these are a sham.  They're designed to draw clicks and generate ad revenue more than anything else.  And what accomplishes that goal better than anything else?  Slighting one of the schools with one of the largest alumni bases and probably the largest online following in the world.  You don't think that there's gonna be a ton of Michigan fans emailing in about the deplorable ratings?  You don't think that as a fanbase, we won't repost that link, crying for blood?  And all the while, we're just giving more ad revenue to CBS.

As others have noted, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that Dodd hasn't seen the stadium since the renovations. That would likely change his opinion. (Sorry, John "Save the Big House" Pollack.  Truly sorry.)

- - -

Dennis is counting atmosphere, too, so I can understand placing a few venues (except USC ... WTF) above Michigan Stadium.  Even with the new towers, it's true that the noise tends to leak out (rather than get back to the field).

- - -

I think it's unrealistic to expect common, dimwitted college football fans outside Michigan (like Dodd) to care much about Michigan's pre-1948 accomplishments.  When they think "tradition" they'll have (shudder) Bobby Bowden's streak of Top 4 finishes in mind, not Tom Harmon and Fielding Yost.

- - -

Notice that Michigan got a 10 for history.  I'm not sure why that's a category separate from tradition, but at least Dodd seems to understand that UMich is #1 all-time in wins.

- - -

Thought exercise: Where would Michigan Stadium rank, pre-renovations, with its seating capacity reduced to 65,000?  Not very high, I'm afraid.  It has rarely been a loud stadium.  Architecturally, it looked like a big, characterless bowl to most people.  Again, I think the towers have improved its appearance.

Let's not pretend that UM hasn't done anything since 1948.  Since the Bo era, we've won a national championship, 2 Heisman trophies, numerous Big Ten titles and have been to 4 BCS bowls since the BCS started in 1998.  Also since 1998, we've won five bowl games against the SEC (Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida again).

Let's not pretend like everything we've done happened 60 years ago.

By "several other schools"  do you mean schools like Texas A&M, Tennessee, Clemson and Notre Dame, all who were rated higher than us in tradition?  Do you think any of those schools have the accomplishments over the last 20 years or so that we have?  Tennessee might have an argument, but probably not.  Notre Dame hasn't done a thing since 1988 and Clemson hasn't done a thing, well, ever.

Yet they all have more tradition than UM, according to Dodd.
