He just broke his wrist, so he's out for the next few months. Maybe he's in AA to receive some superior medical care, in addition to checking out some superior academics, basketball facilities, and culture.

Seriously get well soon and go BLUE!

I can't find a non freep or paywalled site but Winston broke his arm and is out 6-8 weeks. Wish him well in his recovery

if you are lucky, and requires immobilization (cast) for 6-8 weeks.

If you are unlucky, you have involvement of the scaphoid (proximal part of the hand), which is terrifying given the poor circulation (and healing).

Wrist fractures in athletes scare the crap out of me...

I don't think it's impossible he winds up at Michigan, but I'd be pretty surprised if that decision were imminent.  Early playing time is so important to 5-star recruits, as they are planning to stay only 2 years at most (whether that happens or not is different, but that's the general plan).  If Winston were to commit to Michigan before next April, I think it would only be if Walton were to look like someone heading to the NBA after next season.  Of course, I do have those expectations for Walton, and thus expectations for Winston, but I'd be surprised if Winston signed on before February.

Specifically related to my playing time argument.  They're still getting some big recruits, but they're missing out on ones that they'd often get, and Calipari is making a big deal that his platoon system this year won't happen again.  As long as the one-and-done rule is still viable, most top 3 players at their position (which is what Winston is) won't want to go t o a place where they might get  10-15 minutes per game as a freshman.  And if Walton returns for his senior year, that's about all that would likely be available.

But if Walton makes the jump, that would be the third starting PG in a row that Beilein has gotten to the NBA, and Winston should very much consider Michigan to become the next PG in that trend.

I don't think Walton needs to jump for Winston to come here.  Winston will be the #2 PG behind a senior, and will be THE GUY the next season (I don't think Winston is a one-and-done).  And Beilein can show Winston how often we have played both Spike and Walton together, so even being "behind" Walton he could get 20+ points per game.  If he truly is an elite talent, he'll get more than that.

Point is - I don't think PT will be an issue for him here.  We will have a good team but we aren't so stocked with guard talent that a 5 star PG will be hurting for PT.

My post does say "2 years at most", so I allow for that. However, two of the top 4 projected players this year are likely to be guards who are freshmen (or would have been had they been NCAA eligible in the case of Mudaiy). Tyus Jones should be the third or fourth PG picked in the first round, and is also a freshman. If you're one of the top 3 PG in your high school class, 1-and-done is still reasonable. And regardless, even if you need to prove yourself for 2 years in college as a guard, it's still better to start than sit behind a senior for year 1. What do you think Duke sold Derryck Thornton on? "Come start for two years here and enter the NBA draft in 2017. It'll be better than starting one year somewhere else."

I think his post got edited, because now it says 6-foot point guards, but when I started replying I swear it just said "guards". Maybe I misread (bad on me for posting at work). Regardless, Tyus Jones measures 6' 0.25" at the combine yesterday, and Winston is still a junior in high school with time to add an inch or two (or six even). Heck, Russell only measured 6' 3.25". He's not some giant. Again, all I said is that I wouldn't expect Winston to commit any time soon, not that I don't expect him to commit. Calm down, everyone.

It did say 6' the whole time but I know how it is posting at work. I think Tyus Jones is one of those rare exceptions but for the most part if you are 6 foot or under, you are looking at having to prove yourself for at least two years before you have a shot at the lottery.

Probably the best high school PG i've seen in last five years.  Bad that he's injured right now, but at least its during AAU and not his high school season.  I think he's proven himself enough not to need the AAU season to improve his stock more

Wut. Have you seen Derryck Thornton, Jalen Brunson, Dennis Smith, DeAngello Russell, Tyus Jones, Tyler Ennis, Terry Rozier, Andrew Harrison...all better than Cassius.

Cassius is undoubtedly our top prospect, not only because he is a position of need from our local area, but also because he is very good.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves with expectations if he does end up coming here. He is at a similar stage to Derrick Walton in terms of his development (they have different strengths/weaknesses but I'm just saying how ready they are for B1G ball). He will be good not great as a freshman, but Derrick will still be here to learn from. Cassius isn't a one-and-done and he probably isn't a two-and-done. I don't think he's Trey.
