Cass Tech 44 Renaissance 0 (Lewis/Dawson/Hill/Webb/Hosey/Campbell)
First thing... I'm not a scout.
Tonight I went downtown to check out the Cass Tech game. As you can see from the score it was ugly. 28-0 after the first and 36-0 at halftime...
J. Campbell - I know he is just a soph and has time on his side but his throwing motion needs work. He has a strong arm but his ball leaves his hand point down. Missed a few reads in which he clearly went to the wrong WR. Seems to lock on a guy. Physically he has everything you want. With Bama and ND already in the mix he of course will/is a big time recruit. Finished the game 11 of 18 for 180 yards 4 TD 0 INT.
J. Lewis - As a WR runs good routes and finds the hole in the zone well. Caught a 2pt conversation in which he "high pointed" the ball perfectly. Runs well after the catch. Finished with 3 grabs for 40 yards 2 TDs and the mentioned 2pt conv. Was targeted just one other time in which Campbell missed him and Lewis was wide open. On D... The first half they didn't throw a single pass his way. In the second half most of the 2nd string was in but Renaissance was driving with under 2 minutes to go. With the ball at the 15 and Renaissance going to the same guy (#5... he was good but a little small) almost the whole drive Cass called a timeout. Lewis came on the field and went toe to toe with #5 on two plays. The first time Lewis was in his hip pocket and broke up the pass. The second time Lewis was again right there and got the pick. It was cool to see Cass wanted the shutout so they called on Lewis and he made two really nice plays.
D. Webb - Not on the same level as Lewis in terms of route running. In fact I think he just runs a fly route every play (I'm kidding but he runs a lot of fly routes) Had two grabs for 39 yards with 1 TD. This kid is a DB at the next level. Physical, mean, in your face type. Gets his head turned around and finds the ball. Had two great PBU in the first and was always with his guy. Michigan needs to land him!
D. Dawson - Simple... He kicks your ass and then talks shit. Love this kid, plays to the whistle every play.
D. HIll - I think Iowa might have found a nice one. Played well a SS. Reads the play well and breaks on the ball quick. Had 3 big hits in which he was literally slashing through lineman who were downfield on a screen pass and smoked the RB each time. He hits the man and the play ends.
G. Hosey - Michigan needs to offer now. NOT a LB at the next level. His tackling form consists of see-man-hit-man. Can't remember one play in which he wrapped up. I was actually a little surprised at how poor it was. Did force an INT with pressure up the gut on one play (K. Gibbs got the INT). This folks should be our FB in the 2014 class. Runs mean... finished with just 6 carries but had 45 yards and the games first TD. Also a nice catch on a screen pass he took for 17 yards.
Just my thoughts/opinion...
*** At halftime Dawson was presented with his UA game jersey. After thanking his family, teammates, coaches and CT fans he ended his quick time on the mic with a loud "Go Blue!". CT fans loved it.

Pretty sure Hosey was offered as a RB, not FB.

But a runaway beer truck by any other name...

He's not been offered yet...just being recruited at RB.

Did you get a chance to see White or Drake? Thoughts on them?

As a Renaissance alum, I can tell you this was expected. And #5 is Devin McKissick. He's by far our best player.

Does your cable box really not have a "Guide" function?
Google would have been faster than hijacking.

Yes, if you're in the Syracuse market then you will get the Mich game on ESPN2 instead of ABC.

Not sure we need to target a FB every class, but the kid sounds like an elite athlete that can play multiple positions.

It's great for those of us who are out of the area to get the inside dirt when you make it to the games, so good job giving us a sneak preview of some players that we will definitely see, and a few more who I hope to . . . .

Although it won't fly in college, there's something to be said for "see man, hit man" defense. And that something is, "HOLYCRAPDIDYOUSEETHATHIT?!?!"

I'm a Cass alum, but I go way back to the days when CT was merely OK at football; we didn't even have a practice field!. The team had to practice off-site.
Cass has always been a "magnet school" in the Detroit School System, because of the number of curricula it has that are unlike those of any other Detroit high school. So it attracts kids from all over the city. It's still got a good reputation among Detroit schools, and kids want to go there.
Couple that with a very good coach. and the fact that it has strong academics, a new building, and it's an attractive proposition to a kid coming out of middle school who doesn't want to just stay in the immediate neighborhood for high school.
