Carol Hutchins Interview

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

As we now sit exactly one month before the beginning of softball season, Mgoblue.com coverage is starting to ramp up a bit.  Today they posted a nice interview with Coach Hutch, addressing a number of aspects of the upcoming season, including the pitching staff (now with three legit pitchers, given the addition of freshman Megan Betsa), the strength of the Big Ten conference, and who she expects to make the leap forward.  I was happy to see Kelsey Susalla get mentioned there, as she's someone I've had pegged as a potential break-out player since last season.

For those of us ready to see a Michigan team that will win a pile of games & represent the University in the best way, softball season can't get here soon enough!

I'm hoping to see the a couple times this year in Southern Cal. Their trip West is longer this year and I Love taking a day off work to sit in the sun and watch the tournament. They always have recruits/commits in the stands (sierra was in the stands a couple years ago) and make a great showing. solid team, year after year. And Hutch is awesome! Super firey.. one year she got herself tossed following a horrible call. M was trailing by several runs, she got in the ump's face and got kicked out. She stood way out beyond left field watching (bright maze Polo) as Michigan came back to win an exciting game. So classic. Sorry for the ramble, but it's one great memory I have. can not wait to go watch them play!

I'm glad that folks enjoy them.  It's one of the things that I love about MGoBlog - the fact that it's not just a football/b-ball blog.  Obviously those things get a lot of attention, but pretty much all the sports get their due when they achieve things of note.

I'm going to start working on a softball season-preview soon & post it as a diary when we get a little closer.  I think the other regular softball commenters on here will agree with me when I say that this team has the potential to have a truly special season.

Coach Hutch used to frequent the restaurant I worked at for lunch couple times a week. She was very....serious I guess would be the way to describe it. Well, after a while, she warmed up to me and was very sociable. I'll always be a fan of hers. I just wish I was still there when they won the NC, so I could give her a high five or something.
