I guess the girl released a statement. It's viewable at NBCi.com

Keeping in mind what is for me and my family I have decided to refrain from filing charges at this time. Some of the media has rushed to judgment regarding the incident to ensure they are the first to report the information, whether it be factual or false. This has been overwhelming, frustrating and disappointing. It is unimaginable to be exposed to these false reports, claims and rumors and for anticipated 4 months expected to bring this incident to a conclusion. I would like to thank the Columbus Police department for their patience and professionalism they showed conducting their investigation. They have advised me I have up to two years to consider criminal charges. I believe the video, if released, will speak for itself when shown in its entirety and not edited or censored. Thank you

So basically she should have waited the 4 months out so he could have stayed suspended indefinitely.

Translation: All her friends are buckeye fans who are pissed and giving her flak for putting their starting running back in the media. On top of that, he becomes suspended and all her friends FLIP even more. Now she is getting [crazy] harassed by the [crazy] ohians. She decides, this is not worth it. Drops charges.

I would like to see the full video.  If all that's there is the part we saw, and the woman doesn't want to press charges, there's no actual evdence that Hyde did anything.

As a fan of their bitter rival, I wish he would get suspended for the whole year.  As a human being, though, I don't think there's any reason to suspend him without actual proof that he did something.

If the video does show that Hyde hit her, I hope for three things. First, that some smarmy OSU booster paid her to not press charges and the NCAA finds out. Second, Meyer caves to public pressure and suspends Hyde for at least half the season anyway. Finally, I hope the girl files a civil suit against Hyde after he is drafted and gets paid again (according to local radio, there is a 2 year statute of limitations for a civil case to be filed).

...and stumbled across a Hyde thread. One poster claimed to have a buddy working for CPD  said that the police told her that if she pressed charges, then charges of assault would be filed against her as well since she instigated the incident. That may be part of the reason she "chose" not to file charges.

Not exactly. Klein's was a domestic violence case because it involved an ex-girlfriend and, if you believe locals, he just removed the girl from his apartment because she wouldn't leave. There was no assault involved and there was no video evidence.

On a side note, I will be completely shocked if OSU releases their decision on Hyde's status before allowing the video evidence to marinate with the media/Interwebz for a day or two and then gauging public opinion. Why would they start being proactive now?

Proactive? They suspended him indefinitely before charges were even brought about. They could have waited for media/interwebz reaction or for the complete facts but they quickly and decisively suspended him because of the seriousness of the matter. That was quite "proactive."

They suspended him indefinitely right in the middle of summer. That's not exactly hurting him or the team right now. Also, Meyer is in the middle of a PR shitstorm with all the Hernandez publicity, so he really couldn't afford to sit on his hands. I'm sure OSU has had the video from the beginning of this case and has had the opportunity to be ahead of the situation. Instead, they wait for the police report to surface to suspend Hyde. Now they are waiting for the video to be released to address the changes to the case. I don't exactly call that "proactive", but maybe my expectations are too high.

So it would only be considered "proactive" if it was something that was hurting Hyde or the team as of now? However, because they suspended him indefinitely a few days later, its not? Is this what you're trying to say? Something else?

What I'm saying is that OSU has a long track record of waiting for something to be reported and then addressing the issue. Even though they immediately suspended Hyde in this case, I believe it was only because of all the Tweeting by witnesses and media and Meyers' current bad PR that led to the suspension, not a real desire to be proactive. I guess to me there's a difference. Also, what GoWings2008 wrote.

Wait, you said "I'm sure OSU has had the video from the beginning of this case" but then you said "they wait for the police report to surface to suspend Hyde." Soooo, Urban had the video before Carlos was named a POI, which happened less than 24 hours after the incident, and he decided to wait until he was officially named a POI before suspending him? Oooohhh I get it. Urban went down to the club THAT night, got the surveillance footage, saw what happened, said "man, I can't suspend my running back" so he waits until the police name Carlos a POI which happens the very next day, realizes that he is in a media shitstorm and then suspends Carlos. Now, you say that they are waiting for the public opinion of the video to decide the actual punishment. CPD said reporting of this case has been atrocious but you are spot on.

So a few people post on Twitter that they witnessed Carlos Hyde hit a girl at a bar. Almost two days later we finally get a conformation of an investigation complete with cell phone video of the incident, then "an anonymous source close to the investigation" helps leak a story to Yahoo! that Hyde didn't hit the girl but was in fact the on who had been hit. Then a reporter is shown the video and goes on the record saying that Hyde did in fact hit a girl and someone else confirms that the police are not happy that she had seen it (which is understandable given that it was an ongoing investigation). Then the victim decides to not press charges due to alleged public shaming.

I know I can be pretty cynical sometimes, but... yeah... welcome back to the team, Carlos.

Guess we all have different value systems, but a man hitting a woman when he could easily restrain her instead, crosses the line for me.  If I were Meyer he'd be gone from the team.  If you can tolerate violence against women in any form, what CAN'T you tolerate?

He is a ok running back and no matter what Ohio fans say he is not Bo Jackson or Barry Sanders. Call me when Urban gets a running back to 1,000 yards. The guy should be suspended for hitting a girl and probably get some mental health treatment or anger managment help.

A story came out about Hernandez punching a bartender while at UF, and not having charges pressed against him.  Could this be another case of the Urbz "requesting" silence from the victim?!

I am inclined to wonder if her decision has anything to do with the fact that she was on "vacation out of the country" for several days after the incident??? The same reason police were unable to reach her for a statement for 2 weeks.....

I'm not going to comment on the video. The video will speak for itself.

....the video which we will never release.

I'm not surprised. And anyone who thought he wouldn't be playing against Michigan is delusional.

How about Michigan just beat the piss out of them in November? Sounds really good to me.

Roby sitting out all year?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

But no, really? Urban keeping a Good player out for more than one game is laughable.

Meh, never expected much out of this once it became clear there was some uncertainty surrounding the incident.  Nobody was going to "win" here given the accusations and the kids involved.

Urban Meyer has a "zero tolerance" policy on violence against women. If that's true, Hyde DID hit her, so Hyde should be gone.

That is, IF Meyer actually had a "zero tolerance" policy. We all know he doesn't.

Hyde probably sits the first half of Buffalo.

Clear aggressive action towards the girls face. If Ohio fans feel vindicated that's shameful. This whole darn thing is already shameful. The treatment of the girl by fans and the police department are shameful. Those attacking Carlos and attacking the girl without evidence are shameful. If Urbz has the respect for women he claims the kid is gone, there is no denying that was an aggressive action. If not Ohio continues being the same as it ever was. I don't care how that goes I just hope that girl can feel safe in public.

If you look at it a couple times he tagged her pretty good. The girl to the left of them has her hands over her mouth in disbelief of what she saw. 1, maybe 2 games. Is it time for a new rival? Could we maybe drop the Ohio game and add Stanford? They don't deserve to be in the B10. Send Urbs and co to the SEC.
