I'm thinkin' this is the new Cardiac Kids and we have to take the title of capt. comback away from Brian Griese and give it to the TFORCE
...says Denzel Valentine of Big Ten Tourney favorite MSU, which is 5-7 in its last 12 games. Cumong, man.
WERE BACK IN THIS BABY!!!!!
My head hurts! These guys kill me. I love it, but they kill me.
My heart has been beating like I snorted coke for the last half hour. I think at least, I've never snorted coke.
is through the freakin' roof....three instant classic games in 4 weeks.
Well, that was fun while it lasted.
Edit: It's not over, I shouldn't be negative.
Double Edit: I can be negative now.
Do we expect msu trolls on here? I wasn't on last year, but I don't want to have to go ballistic on any Sparty bitches.
absolutely no reason to be negative.
kids grew up today, and learned a valuable lesson, and this experience WILL make them better.
i'm proud of them.
Look - it's one thing to win and another thing to play with heart and guts.
We knew this team was flawed. Those flaws existed whether or not we pulled this game out. But what I didn't know is that we wouldn't say die - and that's worth a lot. Maybe even more than just one W.
Talking to my dad on the phone after the last touchdown, he called it a positive day regardless of the OT situation. I agree. Tough tough loss, but Tate's even more clutch than we knew. Now we need a better o-line and improved defensive back play.
Very true. I'm only being negative in the sense that I really thought we could pull it out, and they brought me back down. But Tate is the only reason we were in the game, so I can't be upset about that pick really. Entertaining game, too bad we didn't win.
Tate, Graham, Warren.
I'm pretty sure RR didn't call that play.
option to run or punt in that situation. that's the only play in the game that i had a problem with
I'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit on that one. That play alone did not cost us this ballgame. Receivers not catching passes in the first quarter, a couple bad turnovers, etc. along with that play cost us this ballgame.
But,that play has worked several times before. I was very angry about wasting that interception with the dumb fake, but it was probably a bad read by Zoltan, not a bad playcall,if it had worked everyone would be praising the coachs, thats life, you have to take some risks.
Whether it was a coordinator or RR that called the rollout punt, I have no idea. But in the rugby punt, isn't it Zoltan's decision as to whether not he kicks? It was a dumb decision by whoever made it, and it didn't work, but that was hardly the biggest problem in this game.
I hope the coaches learned something too. The fake punt + putting Denard in at the beginning of the fourth quarter were awful decisions. I know it's debatable whether that fake punt was up to the coaches, but they obviously gave Zoltan the option. A lot of things to fix, but the kids did play with some heart at the end.
Great fight at the end there, that'll serve them well.
No one should have been expecting an easy ride. Every week is going to be an adventure. An adventure that could still turn out very well.
How exactly did we get exposed? Our offense just was not clicking, forcier is obviously in pain and our d looked halfway decent. Beneath the floor is a little much
Our red-zone D, and in the fourth quarter they were good. The rest of the game, not so much.
comment: you suck
This game was (as it always is) MSU's season. They played like it. It doesn't bother me that we lost, I think we were due for one. It bugs me that they won because of the dumbass Spartan fans. Time to circle the wagons as fans because we'll be getting alot of it this week.
I actually feel the same way. We didn't play well, and I accept the fact that 4th quarter heroics aside, we shouldn't have won this game. I just really don't want to hear it from Sparty fans.
No one got exposed. Have you watched any games this year? Our secondary and linebacker play has been mediocre to poor in all of them. We knew this going into this week, and we'll know it going into next.
The flaws in our secondary and linebacker unit have been exposed for quite some time now. MSU did nothing to expose any of our weaknesses to the rest of the world.
The reason we lost this game was not just the errors on the field or our defense, but MSU. Give credit where credit is due. They played a hell of a game. They brought pressure on a freshman quarterback playing his first road game. Tate responded with amazing poise and big plays, but it was too little too late. MSU sustained long drives in the first half that took our offense out of rhythm. This was key for them.
Dantonio's game plan was pretty good IME. Keep the D on the field, pressure the quarterback and try not make many errors. The fact that they recovered two of their own fumbles is just the way the balls bounce some time. MSU didn't do anything to show how bad our defense is they just took advantage of what was already known to win.
First, you say that expectations need to be lowered through the floor. Okay, I disagree, but that's an opinion.
Then you say that anything other than a lower-tier bowl and we should be demoralized.
Wait, what? Do you not see the inconsistency here?
Look, don't be a roller-coaster fan. We didn't know what we had before the season. Most people predicted seven wins. We're over halfway there. On top of that, we know that we have a gutty intense leader who we can ride for years.
It might be greater if we'd beaten MSU, but it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine either way. Come off the ledge.
oh so close. at any rate, this one was definitely worth skipping class for
I'm proud of the boys for getting back into the game, but we were definitely exposed today. Not only did we lose to State today but the whole game, excluding the last 6 minutes or so, we looked pretty horrible. I still think we're a good team, absolutely better than last year, I just hope we don't go too far downhill from here.
Either way, good game, go blue!
We couldn't run the ball all day, yet in overtime Calvin decides to call two read options in a row. What, the success from throwing the ball for two consecutive touchdowns was too boring? What an idiot!
to act like 'this guy' isn't you to stem the tide?
Tate got five yards on the first read option, and four on the second. That isn't half bad. The read is our base run play, do you think we should have only thrown the ball? That play also worked twice on third and short on the final drive.
Losing the coin toss was killer. Everyone knew Forcier was running on dead legs, and getting the ball on O just hurt even more. I really wished Force didn't call his own number as much because I think fatigue was a huge (HUGE) factor in the OT drive. Being tired restricts a lot of the things you can do effectively.
Another thing on the fatigue thing: that "tackle" attempt by Troy Woolfolk was pathetic, but I think Dantonio brought in the back that wasn't the convict and his relatively fresh-er legs were able to pound through Woolfolk. No excuse at all though, that tackle needs to be made.
Those were good calls, obviously passing didn't work.
We are gonna live and die with this kid obviously. He brought us back but gave it up too. That's life with a freshman QB. I am very encouraged by the refusal to quit in a game that certainly wasn't going their way. Tough loss.
EDIT: I do have to complaint a little - Woolfolk. What was he doing the entire game and especially on the last play? Grab the guy's ankles and get him on the ground. C'mon.
I didn't hear Woolfolk talked about at all today. Just Woolfork.
I thought I was going to go insane if I heard them say 'Woolfork' one more time.
Yeah, it sucks. They lost. I still feel I witnessed a team that will be great in the long run. Tate IS incredible, he will only progress. Tate left injury free, maybe his pride bruised, but it's on to the next game. I love this team, win or loss.
Very bummed yet proud of the team for not laying down when they were down 14 late in the fourth. Hell of a game either way.
We were outgained 418 to 251, had 28 net rushing yards, had 14 first downs to their 21 and had 23 mins of possession vs. 40 for them. We also gifted them turnovers deep in their territory and a silly fake punt deep in our territory. Given the above, we probably had no right to win this game. But with a gritty performance from the D with a couple of timely turnovers and a remarkable 4th quarter comeback led by Tate we were able to push it into overtime with a shot at winning. I still like the team character and fight back. Just wish it would have started a little sooner...
