Look - it's one thing to win and another thing to play with heart and guts.

We knew this team was flawed. Those flaws existed whether or not we pulled this game out. But what I didn't know is that we wouldn't say die - and that's worth a lot. Maybe even more than just one W.

Could be worse. Could have been Kinesiology.

They showed up too late, fell down, missed tackles, dropped passes, and failed to do what CMU could do, beat the fucking spartans. Rich Rod also called some of the absolutely STUPIDEST plays I have ever seen, what a GREAT fake punt on your own ten when you have Minor and 4th and an inch!!!

Whether it was a coordinator or RR that called the rollout punt, I have no idea. But in the rugby punt, isn't it Zoltan's decision as to whether not he kicks? It was a dumb decision by whoever made it, and it didn't work, but that was hardly the biggest problem in this game.

No one got exposed. Have you watched any games this year? Our secondary and linebacker play has been mediocre to poor in all of them. We knew this going into this week, and we'll know it going into next.

The flaws in our secondary and linebacker unit have been exposed for quite some time now. MSU did nothing to expose any of our weaknesses to the rest of the world.

The reason we lost this game was not just the errors on the field or our defense, but MSU. Give credit where credit is due. They played a hell of a game. They brought pressure on a freshman quarterback playing his first road game. Tate responded with amazing poise and big plays, but it was too little too late. MSU sustained long drives in the first half that took our offense out of rhythm. This was key for them.

Dantonio's game plan was pretty good IME. Keep the D on the field, pressure the quarterback and try not make many errors. The fact that they recovered two of their own fumbles is just the way the balls bounce some time. MSU didn't do anything to show how bad our defense is they just took advantage of what was already known to win.

First, you say that expectations need to be lowered through the floor. Okay, I disagree, but that's an opinion.

Then you say that anything other than a lower-tier bowl and we should be demoralized.

Wait, what? Do you not see the inconsistency here?

Look, don't be a roller-coaster fan. We didn't know what we had before the season. Most people predicted seven wins. We're over halfway there. On top of that, we know that we have a gutty intense leader who we can ride for years.

It might be greater if we'd beaten MSU, but it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine either way. Come off the ledge.

Could be worse. Could have been Kinesiology.

It was a reference to ESPN saying we should be headed to the Outback bowl, as well as the expectations I've been seeing on this board for weeks, and THE_KNOWLEDGE's astute 12-1 prediction.

I'm proud of the boys for getting back into the game, but we were definitely exposed today. Not only did we lose to State today but the whole game, excluding the last 6 minutes or so, we looked pretty horrible. I still think we're a good team, absolutely better than last year, I just hope we don't go too far downhill from here.

Either way, good game, go blue!

Tate got five yards on the first read option, and four on the second. That isn't half bad. The read is our base run play, do you think we should have only thrown the ball? That play also worked twice on third and short on the final drive.

Losing the coin toss was killer. Everyone knew Forcier was running on dead legs, and getting the ball on O just hurt even more. I really wished Force didn't call his own number as much because I think fatigue was a huge (HUGE) factor in the OT drive. Being tired restricts a lot of the things you can do effectively.

Another thing on the fatigue thing: that "tackle" attempt by Troy Woolfolk was pathetic, but I think Dantonio brought in the back that wasn't the convict and his relatively fresh-er legs were able to pound through Woolfolk. No excuse at all though, that tackle needs to be made.

We are gonna live and die with this kid obviously. He brought us back but gave it up too. That's life with a freshman QB. I am very encouraged by the refusal to quit in a game that certainly wasn't going their way. Tough loss.

EDIT: I do have to complaint a little - Woolfolk. What was he doing the entire game and especially on the last play? Grab the guy's ankles and get him on the ground. C'mon.

Yeah, it sucks. They lost. I still feel I witnessed a team that will be great in the long run. Tate IS incredible, he will only progress. Tate left injury free, maybe his pride bruised, but it's on to the next game. I love this team, win or loss.
