Cardale Jones thinking of declaring?

Submitted by ghost on

Cardale Jones on entering the NFL Draft: “It’s definitely a ‘who knows’ right now. It’s up in the air right now.”

That sure sounds like a guy with one foot out the door. He would be smart to leave. His stock will never be this high again. If he stays at OSU he will have Barrett behind him and if he struggles he could end up on the bench.

And if he stays at OSU he will have Barrett in FRONT of him, not behind him. Barrett will be the starter. A starter on a short leash.

I didn't think about that as the clock ran down, but Jones declaring would be an interesting move for someone who was - before this past November - primarily known for an ill-conceived tweet which went viral inside of 15 seconds. I do have to wonder though - even if Jones did declare, is there a team that takes a chance on him just based on his postseason performance since that's more or less all the data you have? I would think a lot of teams would want to see him earn the starting role and play a season at least, but that might not happen with Barrett there.

It'd help answer a lot of questions about OSU at QB too.  Of course, it could sting OSU really bad if Jones declares and Miller transfers.  That's the worst case scenario.  Best case is all 3 stay, but I think it's likely that Miller transfers and the other 2 stay.

has plenty of room to rise. Dude not only bailed their asses out, but won them a B1G title and a shot in the playoff, a huge win against the world's nemesis, and a national title. I can see Barrett winning back his starting job, but Cardale is going to get some reps if he stays. He might just be their best clutch qb.

Scary as it is, I really don't know if Jones is the starter next year. At a bare minimum, he will be part of a 2(3!?) QB system. Barrett almost won the f-ing Heisman this year.

Someone is leaving, and Jones it's probably the most likely because he has the best pro prospects. Miller is going to be treated like Denard, and Barrett probably doesn't have a good enough arm. Elliott is probably gone too, and that will be a bigger blow. they don't win these last three games without him.

Matt Cassel never even started a game at USC. His career numbers at USC were 20-33 for 192 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, and 11 rushes for 92 yards. Yet, he was still drafted (7th round). With the demonstration of talent he presented the last three games and with the possibility to further showcase his talent at the combine, he easily could be a 2nd through fourth round pick (depending on performance at the combine).

If I were him, I would leave. he just won his team a national championship. I understand the argument for staying, but I don't think another year of beating up on mediocre teams (where his playing time could be questionable) will prove anything more than he already has. First world football problems. I hate you, Ohio State.

The NBA is a little different and they still don't really draft players after only a few starts. One exception would be Kyrie Irving who would have been drafted highly out of high school if he was able. It is also easier to project basketball talent than it is to project a quarterback at the highest level. Example: reading defenses, decision making, etc.

I saw a lot of tweets from NFL guys talking about it last night. We all know how reliable they are though.

Go for it Cardale. Think of your family.

Cardale Jones has won 3 games by handing the ball off (they ran the ball 61 times last night) and throwing it up and letting his receivers win jump balls.

I think the NFL would pass on him right now.

If I'm Cardale I think I leave. You saw how these guys ripped Bridgewater to pieces bc they had more time and film to do so. Cardale should hire an agent and get a qb guru and start prepping. His stock in college is murky bc he shouldn't transfer and JT is probably the future (and if he's not , great, but a crazy bet to make).

Frick Eric Ebron went in the first and he can't even catch the ball.  Trent Richardson went in the first and he is slow and lazy.

I would take him in the 2nd / 3rd if you have an aging star QB.  I agree that sitting behind Braxton and JT Barrett would cause problems.

It will take 2 years on the bench before he is completely ready though.  Get paid to go to NFL school.

Bigger than Kaepernick.  Stronger arm than Kaepernick.  A little slower than Kaepernick but hey they should not be running that much anyway.

won't transfer.  As a junior he will likely start next year with sophmore Barrett at backup.  Miller will transfer with 2 years remaining of eligibility.  Oregon's poor defensive play made Jones look better than he is.  Pretty much threw to wide open receivers or long bombs never to a 2nd or 3rd option. He is not ready for the pros.  Wishful thinking that he is going pro.  Michigan has the talent and now the coaching to beat Meyers team's.  Don't be fooled last night's game is as much about how poorly Oregon played as it is about how well bucky played.

So what you're saying is that you pretty much just fire from the hip and aren't into facts or watching games before commenting on them? Good for you for being willing to make bold predictions based on nothing, that seems like fun.

Is elite. His teams come prepared to play and they showed the world last night just how good they are. To discount what Meyer has done this season is ignorant-it is possibly one of the best coaching jobs ever. Ohio State played well when it had to-Oregon got outplayed, outcoached, and lost to a superior team.

All I know is that if I just won my school a national title at QB when they needed me and they benched my ass the following year - I'm fucking transferring. Fuck that noise. He should go pro.

If I were him. Meyer has a history of chewing unionists spitting you out when your needed. Perfect example is if Miller comes back he won't sniff the field. Mind u that Miller helped ride the ship while Meyer got his team lined up with recruits etc. Thanks for nothing Braxton, watch as Meyer shows how much more of deuche he really is next year. I could see Pittsburgh drafting Cardale.
