"I'm more respected there," Weis says. "I'm more well-liked there." In the NFL, as a coordinator, he can be fairly anonymous. A big part of being a head coach is having charisma during interviews. Sadly for Weis, he is to a TV camera what fingernails are to a chalkboard.

He's just a jerk in general. My dad is an alum, raised significant money for a charity dinner, and Weis barely acknowledged him. Meanwhile, Lou Holtz is schmoozing with anyone in sight. I just don't think he's a people person.

I regret the drunken schadenfreude I enjoyed when Weis had his knees destroyed against us. I didn't realize that was a life-altering injury for the guy. Charlie Weis, I'm sorry I laughed when your knees got destroyed. Other than that, I think he's a prick, but I don't think he's all that mean-spirited. This has certainly been a humbling experience for him, I'd imagine.

From this interview it sounds like he's already been told that he's done when the season is over. I mean, I know that is pretty much already the case, but ND's athletic director keeps saying that they aren't going to make a decision until the season is over. It sounds like not only have they already made a decision, but they've told Weis about it. I can't imagine that he would ever say that his son would never go to ND unless he already officially knew that he was on his way out.

Assuming that comment about knowing what college his son won't be attending was referring to ND*, I was a little surprised that he has that level of animosity towards his alma mater. very few coaches get to retire, almost all of them are fired. And his W-L record basically demands that he would be fired. And the ND AD has given Weis a lot of rope by which he has hung himself. * The comment may have been a reference to USC, Michigan, Navy, UConn, Pitt or any other school his team lost to this year.

I think this was a good article. We get so wrapped in the rivalry as fans we forget these people have families and the effect all of the negative hateful speech has them. While I am still not a fan of Notre Dame or Charlie Weiss by any means, I appreciate what he is going through. I think we would be wise to keep our criticism of the man purely football from now on. It maybe funny to make fun of his weight but it is classless. In a time where 66 percent of Americans are obese it might be time to learn a little sensitivity regarding this issue.

should we be sensitive to that as well? Charlie is not a likable guy, which is why he gets made fun of so much. Look at Mangino, he's huge, but you'll hardly ever see someone on here say something about him. Why? Because he's not an asshole. (in the public eye anyway)

I was not aware there were so many assholes on this blog. I thought that not making fun of people due to their physical appearance was common courtesy, even if it Charlie Weiss. He maybe a jerk but he has never done anything to you personally and your comments and everyone else's is effecting the mans family. Have some decency.

Fat jokes? Really? I think Charlie's family members know he's fat. If it is so painful to them, why doesn't he mix in a salad once a decade and put an end to the whole thing. The guy is just being the classless windbag he's always been by bringing this nonsense up. Coaches who don't perform in high profile jobs get criticized. Morbidly obese people (especially famous ones) some times get made fun of. Charlie isn't being singled out, he's just the guy whining the loudest about it.

Yes it is clear his family members knows hes fat. Thats irrelevant. So if your mom is a slutty bitch then its ok for everyone to dog on her? I bet not. You would probably get pissed about that right? Point is that you tend to get pissed when people you love are hurt. My point is that criticism is expected when you are the head coach at any major university. However, that criticism should be primarily due to his job not his looks. Making fun of the guy because of his weight makes us all look like 6th graders. Grow up already!

I find your comments about 6th graders highly inflammatory and irresponsible. To generalize an entire group of people as fatty bashing neanderthals. They're children for christ sakes! For you to slander them is highly inappropriate. Some 6th graders are themselves horizontally challenged and I believe they would find your statements both derogatory and disappointing. Criticism may be expected when one is the head football coach of a major university, but these are 6th graders! /PC police

There is no coach in the country under as much scrutiny as ND's. There are more live ND press conferences covered by espn news than any other school. He is always in the public eye, and always will be. Which is one of the key reasons why a good college HC is not always equal to a good ND HC. And your using Mangino as some kind of Santa Claus in college coaching, oh man

there are tons and tons of coaches that make great coordinators and terrible head coaches. its nothing against charlie. he is what he is. he'll be successful in the nfl again as a coordinator after all of this is through.
