Can you Handle Matt Millen on Saturday?

Submitted by Drake on
The color commentator this week for the Um-ND game will me Matt Millen, who will be making his comeback to Detroit (sort of). My question is, will you be able to handle this during the game, or are you going to be forced to mute the game?

It's how my friend George Palm survived Harry Carey doing Cubs games. When Harry switched to the radio broadcast, the TV volume came back on. Simple, elegant, and if you're up switching on/off the radio, you can grab me a beer, right?

As it was suggested earlier this summer, I'm going to play with my DVR so I can get the TV feed and radio broadcast synced up. I refuse to listen to Matt Millen.

Matt Millen was a very good linebacker at Penn St. He was on four Super Bowl winning teams during his 12 year NFL career. He was my favorite NFL color commentator before taking the Lion's GM position. Admittedly, he screwed up repeatedly with Detroit, and has said he deserved to be fired. Speaking for myself, I'm going to give him a shot at this new phase in his life; I'm interested in what he has to say Saturday, especially about the Freep hatchet job.

Who knows, maybe now that he is apart of the media, maybe he will finally release the dirty pictures he has of Ford that allowed him to keep his job for so long. I don't know about you, but I always wondered how bad those photos were.

Luckily I won't have to listen to him because I'll be at the game. I realize he was a very good brodacaster before leading the Lions to an 0-16 season, but I would contend that having that record on his resume destroys any credibility where football is concerned. On the other hand, maybe he has some good stories about how much "Big" Mike Williams hit the buffet table. What a player.

Millen is a horrible, horrible, horrible GM, but a decent commentator. I don't mind having him in the booth so long as he doesn't make any references to the Wolverines looking like the 2008 Lions.

As many have already mentioned, he was always at least a good commentator. I rather enjoyed his NFL broadcasts. He is insightful and objective. It's not much different from my thoughts on Chris Spielman. I hate that he was a Buckeye, but enjoy his football insight during a broadcast. I actually am not that angry at Matt Millen for what he did in Detroit. While it was a horrid job, I doubt there are many who could succeed in that toxic atmosphere. Until there is different ownership in Detroit, I will not believe the Lions can be a successful franchise.

Even though asking insight from Matt Millen about football is like asking Rod Blagojevich for political advice, Millen has no choice but to be supportive of Michigan football and Rich Rodriguez. Since he's hoping to redeem his name (although that will never really happen), he cannot afford to make any more enemies from the state of Michigan. So, while I'm thankful I'll be at the game instead of listening to his "wisdom," I'm glad someone (even though its Millen) in the media will be supportive of the maize and blue.

ABC Detroit runs this disclaimer: Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst
