Purdue kicker made feild goals 42,47,52,57,67...yes I said 67 (missed 62) in their spring game. Last year I would be amazed by a 37 yarder. So what can we look forward to in special teams this year? I expect Ha(N)gerup to be a lot better, he was good last year but had Zoltan shoes to measure up to. Note: he really did let down the team in hus actions to be suspended for osu game. Kickers have so much to do to improve this year, did I really have to say that? What is success for them? No kicks out of bounds, no missed fg's, what kind of percentage, and what kind of lengh?
Can Michigan have Purdue's kicker?
Dang, dude...I think you need some Ritalin.
Spring practice reports have been stating that Hagerup hits the Glick ceiling more often than not. I think we will see this year that his leg is much bigger than Mesko's. I think he was a bit of a headcase last year (not surprising, seeing as he was a true freshman) and will mature into the nation's best kicker over the next few years.
Headcase? how so?
Kicking/punting out-of-bounds. I think he just had freshman jitters/nerves. I wasn't implying that he's a sociopath or anything.
I remember reading that one of the kickers (pretty sure Broekhuizen) had the same problem. He was pretty consistent in practice but just got too nervous in games.
Ha oh you mean in game. I thought you were talking about his actual personality.
Ritalin is not what the OP needs. He seems pretty focused as it is.
But if you have it $.50 a pill, j/k
Where, why, and how does Purdue always get these bombers?
You can add Iowa, OSU and MSU to that list.
Especially OSU and MSU.
Not that it means anything but I think 70% FG accuracy should be bottom basement. Some of these misses could come during early game blowouts.
What I want to see is a kicker who can comeback from a miss and hit a gamewinner as time expires. If we can get someone to do that, let's say vs ND at night (kthx), the rest of the season might turn out ok.
That is what I was hoping for making this thread. Special teams is a very important part of the game.
67 yards? Pretty sweet. That means you could at least *think* about a FG if you got to mid-field.
Here's the guy who apparently hold the record for longest field goal (68 yards) at any level of competition.
FWIW, it looks like Ove Johanson actually holds the record for longest FG ever kicked in any football game at 69 yards.
I stand corrected, it appears ... I looked at this page but didn't see it at first glance:
For whatever reason, they have the 67-yarder as the longest college FG in the table.
I think the distinction there is that Johansson was kicking in the NAIA, not the NCAA.
Here's to hoping that Matt Wile comes in here and has ice water in his veins and is a straight up assassin out there.
"kicker" and "assassin" in the same sentence... I don't know if that's quite the word choice I would've used haha
Wow thats a lot of FGs in a spring game
Is this worst announced game you've ever heard? Gary Thorne is absolutely out to lunch went it comes to getting names right.
EDIT: OOOPS! Wrong thread. Sorry!
I will take 60 pct on feild goals this year.
