Cam Burrows Surprise

Submitted by Knappster on

Noticed a retweet on twitter where Cam is saying he has a surprise for McCray tomorrow.  OSU offer coming?  Cam switching?  Totally unrelated to football?

It's early March - what else can we do but speculate.

Considering his last tweet has something to do with why he loves OSU, I'd say a decommitment, much less a following commitment to Michigan, is highly unlikely.

I think that McCray and Meyer had a plan in place to embarrass Michigan. That's why Meyer never offered McCray. Why wouldn't you offer one of the best LB's in the country especially if their dad was former team captain? Look for McCray to get his offer from OSU and then decommit from M. The perception would be that Meyer always gets who he wants.

If Urban really wanted to "embarass" Michigan wouldn't he give McCray an offer, let him commit to Michigan, then have him flip on Signing Day? If your scenario plays out the perception would simply be that he loved OSU, not anything to do with Meyer.  Not to be crass, but grow some balls dude and have some faith in Hoke.

Based on what I've heard of Urban's past recruiting exploits, I can imagine a situation in which he offers McCray and McCray immediately decommits to play at OSU, thereby creating the image that OSU is winning a recruiting war with Michigan.

But that would mean that - A) McCray is kind of a sleaze himself and would go for that kind of thing (WHICH I DO NOT BELIEVE TO BE THE CASE), and B) that Hoke & Co. didn't do enough homework on this kid's desires or else they wouldn't have accepted his commitment given that this could unfold, especially since we have a pretty good # of LB prospects favoring or considering Michigan (WHICH I ALSO DO NOT BELIEVE TO BE THE CASE.)

I was always a little leery of accepting a commitment from McCray based on he fact that his father played for the Buckeyes and he has been a fan/around the program his whole life - that is a very difficult bond to break. Think of how engrained Michigan Football is in your life - now multiply that x10 based on the fact that his father played there.

Having said that, I will go with my positive gut on this one - While McCray did grow up an OSU fan, he fell in love with what Michigan has to offer and feels that Hoke & Co. offer him the best opportunity to succeed. His father, while a former OSU captain, is a father first and foremost and knows the deal - he needs to steer his kid to the best place for him, and feels that Ann Arbor is that place. It wouldn't be the first time a former player's son went to play for the rival (coughBorenCough)

Welcome to the fold McCray - Looking forward to seeing you in Maize and Blue on Saturdays.

That kind of strategy, though employed by Urban in the past, seems like it would easily backfire.  You would basically be asking a kid to make himself look like a dbag and not commit so you can later use him as a pawn to create a false sense of recruitnig momentum.  Surely most kids would find such a tactic highly unethical and insulting.

He does not want to go to ohio....they will probably burn through 2-3 more defensive coaches before next season even starts.  I admire urban meyer's ability to be a douche 24/7...its hard to never come off as a decent person.  Consistency is commendable.

Urban Meyer is a cockaroach who would love nothing better than to flip this kid.but not happening.Hoke and company got this on lock or they wouldn't. Take the commitment and if the wants to visit another school while he's commited they'll take away the scholarship offer.this is just kids being kids.
