Calm Down We Have a Coach

Submitted by Ziff72 on

Everyone running around like it's the final act of Animal House need to get a grip.   We have a coach under contract.  That coach has 22 returning starters.  We have a cake schedule in 2011.

I've been hearing all this whining.  He can't come back now?  He looked defeated.  Why not?   He's almost has his recruting class completed and he's already at work.   You know how he'll show up for work?  He'll get up and drive over and start working and in a week  this will all be over and people will be worrying about who's visiting for the Kansas basketball game and then it will be signing day.

Then all the fans that gave up will start hearing that T. Lewan is now lifting houses over his head and that M. Jones is looking like the next coming of D. Jones and the secondary is looking good and people will get excited again.   The Spring Game will come and F. Toussiant will bust a couple of big runs and we'll say D. Hart who?

Soon enough it will be August again and it will be time for put up or shut up, but it's going to be fine.

The more i glean from the interwebz and on here, the more i am convinced that this whole thing was media and fanbase driven. Before you call me nuts on this, there is plenty of evidence to back up my idea that DB never intended to change coaches. The opposite idea has no proof that there ever was.

Exhibit A: All the double secret sources said that Harbaugh would accept the position if asked. Harbaugh sources said that if asked he would not be taking the job. Apparently he was never offered the job

Exhibit B: Every source has said that only DB knows what DB is up to. There are myriad sources saying that RR is done, but none have said that DB told them explicitly

Exhibit C: Each CC candidate has their own sources saying that Coach X is the guy if offered, again apparently no one has been offered.

In summation, perhaps this has all been for nothing. DB is smart, so why would he put the program through all these contortions. Perhaps it is to instill RR with the fear that year 4 is do or die. Sure we lost D hart, or did we. Could he be back after RR is given the green light on year 4. Its snake oil season, and we all no one has a more potent cocktail of Snake oil than the West Virginia kid. I could be wrong, but the longer this goes on, and  the more i read. the more i become convinced that there never was a planned coaching change at all.

We all need to get a life. I'm glad DB is the AD, and have faith that he'll make a good decision and we'll be all right. While I would have been happy to see JH come, it won't break my heart if he doesn't. I have always felt that RR deserves 4 years, and the chance to succeed.

Regardless of what happens, I fully agree that much of the "panic" and "toxic" environment is media and fanbase driven.

For RR to be forced to delegate, and to have a much better defensive scheme is the best possible thing that can happen (if he remains.) And the added strength and experience of those on the team can only help.

While losing Hart hurts, there is still Hayes. And Tom VH doesn't seem to be running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Lastly, I really, really like Denard, and want him to stay. If he and others want to play for RR, I'd be thrilled to see them given that chance.

The one thing I DON'T want is to bring in a newbie coach who completely trashes the spread, and sets us back years in adjusting.
