Calling all Recruitniks and RR Supporters

Submitted by MichMike86 on
I know Valenti is seen with much disdain from the people here but he is discussing Michigan's recruiting class and I would love to hear one of the more knowledgeable users debate him on the class. He is pretty much saying how pathetic it is that we are offering kids who don't have interest from any of the big schools. Vinopal was mentioned specifically.

As long as Valenti has the loudest mic and can turn yours off whenever he wants, nobody will even "win" a radio spat with him. Even if somoeone did, the seven-second delay would "take care of it" for him. Valenti is a pusbag that is about a cc away from bursting.

Patrick Omameh will be starting on the o-line as a RS So. He was a 2-star with offers from nothing but MAC schools. Rich Rodriguez is 1/1 with 2 star sleepers with unimpressive offers. I'm going to trust his judgment on Vinopal. The kid was the best defensive player on an Ohio state championship team. Mike Valenti can go choke on applesauce.

He is your typical radio blowhard who only deals in stereotypes, lies and innuendo in order to generate ratings. When it comes to recruiting my 5 year old knows more than he does about the Michigan class.

He is using Rivals and saying how we only have 5 four star players. Just looking for someone in the know to squash him. Thought it would be of interest.

Yeah, I would almost be an advocate for deleting this thread. For a couple of months they couldn't get any Michigan fans to call in, and they actually stopped talking shit about Michigan. I think we should continue the trend, and refuse to bite what the "radio trolls" are trying to feed us.

then run on to MGoBlog and say "Guys, look what Valenti said, what do you have to say for yourselves now?" Seriously? Fun life. We all envy your existence.

I try not to be too judgmental on here, but I really think you are "in the wrong" by starting this thread. If the comment by Bray keeps you from doing it again, it was a worthwhile post.

Well as you can see this thread has generated a lot of response. I don't really give a shit if it bothers people when someone questions things or points out someone else who does. If you can't ignore it then that is your problem not mine. There are plenty other threads and things to look at on this site. Hopefully this post keeps you from responding again then I will consider it a worthwhile post.

How many in the media, local radio shows, actually take the time to watch film and try to get a gauge on the players they talk about, and how many just look at site rankings and assume from there? How many of them check on how a player fits into the program/school in which they are being recruited by? Some kids are made for a specific offense, and at Michigan, it's no longer the pro-style... UM now runs a very specific offense, and for that, you need a specific style of player. A 3/4 star recruit, might just be a 4/5 star player in our system. This is how RR had success at West Virginia, with low recruiting classes. He tried to recruit the best talent, though he always tried to get the best talent for his system, and it worked, and it can work in the Big Ten. I think RR recruits well, which will help.

RR had the top recruiting classes pretty much in the Big East. Not better than Georgia or Oklahoma, but better than the rest of the Big East. I'm pretty sure Seatrel Henderson could play in any offense. Same with Kyle Prater or Dillon Baxter. The only place we want these "3/4* but 4/5* to us players" is having a dual threat QB, more agile lineman, and a slot receiver or 2. However, a Steve Breaston like 5* slot, or Kenny Shaw, are 4/5* in any system.

In the event he were to be squashed, he would simply deflect by saying the caller has no life. There's no point of calling in or even listening to the show if it's a fair or honest debate that you're looking for.

Coming off the heels of two losing seasons...two seasons that were MIGHTY MIGHTY blips on the scale of 1 to normal...two seasons that featured a grand total of TWO quality wins...how many coaches could go out and put together a top-25 recruiting class? Seriously, you had a top-10 class last year and this year's group will probably be top-15. Two years in a row, you've landed marquee QBs. You've landed really good cornerstones on defense that you can build around. You've landed weapons that just about any school would love to have. Rodriguez has averaged four wins a year. His job security (I'm not advocating one way or the other) IS in doubt. And he's pulling in his second top-15 recruiting class. WHAT exactly is the problem?

the problem is Valenti and the fact that his best shot at enhancing his job prospects is to enrage the general public with offensive stupidity, a not unusual situation. In real life, the main problem is having to wait until August in order to see how this all plays out.

And I think the more that media morons like him do the same, it will only be to our eventual benefit. Kids hear that kind of talk—they usually deny paying attention to it, but in this media-saturated age, that's simply not believable—and your average young player is going to get a burr up his butt when outsider know-nothings like Valenti say they're nothing before they've even suited up for the first time. If Valenti also says that MSU's class is much better than Michigan's and that they're going to kick our ass, that would even be better. Save your cell minutes for something more valuable, like ordering pizza.

days do not listen to valenti and foster... because if you do you're going to end up punching a wall, all he is doing is catering to the fans who get their info from 97.1 and the free press... and as said above he won't give someone who knows what is going on a chance to talk... he did the same thing with the basketball team the day before they played state and made fun of everyone because of their offer list... has he brought up the article from the news yet???

I was listening on the drive home and he seriously contradicts himself at least three times an hour. When someone called/texted in about State picking up a 1-star kid today whose only other offer was from Western, he said, "This isn't about my program, this conversation is about Michigan!" An awesome Michigan fan (perhaps an MGoBlogger?) called in and listed all of our recruits and Valenti couldn't come back with anything clever so he snapped back with something like, "Good, I hope you enjoy spending all of your time on the internet." He also mentioned he doesn't follow recruiting because he doesn't like "stalking 18 year old boys". I think he's full of shit.
