Maybe, but if Butt were entering the draft it wouldn't mean he'd leave Ann Arbor winter semester. My guess is if he were to leave he'd still stay in AA to train/work out and get ready for the draft. His housing contract has nothing to do with his enrolment in school here since he's living off-campus.

This very well could have to do with next year and Morris implying he'll be back. People assume it's a guarantee that Morris is gone next year, and he very well might be, but I honestly don't expect he's made that decision yet. We all assume he's going to lose out on the starting job next year, but he probably still thinks he has a shot at it. And maybe he's improved a ton during this redshirt year and maybe he will win it. But regardless of whether he does or not, my guess is he's going to stay enrolled and try and win it all the way through spring practice. So it won't be until post spring practice that we have any idea about Morris and his plans to transfer.

I find your theory most plausible. It would be nice if the neg just offered an alternative theory.

Did he saying anything about looking forward to mentoring a TE prodigy from Georgia?

But he may also try to get his degree first and then depart.  He might be able to do that by the end of Winter Term.  Good luck to him either way. 2011-2014 was a rough time to be a QB on UM's roster.

The only reason I've put any weight into the assumptions that Shane will be leaving is because of vague "inside info" I've heard rumblings about. I've seen nothing publicly to make me think that's the case and the circumstances up until now certainly don't lead me to the conclusion that he's on his way out. I think he may have very well just wanted another year to work with Harbaugh and compete for the job. Rather than wasting a year of eligibility as the #2 behind a 5th year transfer.

Just wondering if this will have any effect on the recruitment of Isaac Nauta.  Don't get me wrong I'll take Jake all day for a senior year, but do you think this hurts us or helps us with getting Nauta?  Feel like he may have thought he could come in and be the #1 guy if Butt leaves right away and now he defintely will not.

Thoughts?

Don't think it matters either way. It's only one year of Butt, even if he's not the #1 guy this year he'll have his chance every year after.

Also we use TEs a lot so he'll have his chance to play a lot as a freshman even with Butt here. Especially compared to a school like Georgia, his other main contender, where their leading TE had 13 catches this year, one more than AJ Williams.

Even if Butt had left, it was no guarantee Nauta was going to start. He would have had great odds, but between Bunting, Hill, Wheatley Jr. and Poggi we had a lot of depth there. I'm also sure a guy as good as him isn't afraid of 1 year of competition.
