Bumped: Petition to Fire Brandon (Students/Alumni/Faculty)

Submitted by FreddieMercuryHayes on

I'm re-posting this to keep it on the MGoBoard because I find it important, and for some reason it hasn't been pinned to the site banner yet.  Maybe it will mean nothing, but this kind of stuff is all many of us have to express discontent and disgust with the leadership of the athletic department, especially for those who do not want to resort to boycotts for the players' sakes.

ALUMNI - you can sign it too.  You don't even have to remember your unique name.

Follow the 'Login' link and click the 'Create a Login ID Now' on the left hand side, click 'create uniquname', and follow the instructions.  I haven't used my umich login in 7 years, and it took me literally 87 seconds to recover it and reset a password.  Just need your name, birthdate, year of first UM degree, and last four of your SSN.  Theoretically it also allows you to create a login ID for those who were alumni before the advent of the uniquenames.  Haven't tired it myself, but saw a '91 grad say they could sign.

I couldn't think of my password, so I kept guessing and now I am locked out...

of course I graduated 14  years ago, and I've smoked a lot of weed since then...

so hey, I tried.

When I was there in the mid-70s I had a mild association with the student government.  I can say with great confidence that the opinions of the students meant very little to the adminstration on both the LS&A and University level.

Looking back on it, that was probably a good thing.

Well, as someone who works on the research side of this institution, it's really not surprising that the voice of the students wouldn't matter much. Aside from AFTER they graduate and (hopefully) make lots of money that they can then turn around and give back to the Uni, and even despite the high cost of tuition, the students themselves don't really bring anything to the table for the University as far as money OR prestige. The money comes from rich donors that are FORMER students, and the prestige comes from the medical breakthroughs on the research end. Now, if you got their biggest donors to sign this or their most prominent PIs (researchers) that bring in buckets of federal grant money, that would be something not to be overlooked by the U.

So, tried it, but got this message:

Our Apologies: We Are Unable to Process Your Request

We are currently unable to accept the information you provided as ID verification due to a problem with the Alumni Uniqname Management system. This problem may take some time to fix.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

So... so much for that.  Either it's being inundated, or, they realized what's happening and turned it off.

Not really worthy of a new thread IMO, but something I wanted to share. I'm taking a classic civ course this semester, and our guest speaker for tomorrow (October 1st) was supposed to be Dave Brandon. About 2 hours ago, we received an email from the professor stating that he (our professor) will be giving the lecture tomorrow instead. He did not elaborate on the change, or say if the guest lecture would be rescheduled, so I have no clue how to read into the change yet, but figured I would share this with the board.
