Bumped: Petition to Fire Brandon (Students/Alumni/Faculty)

Submitted by FreddieMercuryHayes on

I'm re-posting this to keep it on the MGoBoard because I find it important, and for some reason it hasn't been pinned to the site banner yet.  Maybe it will mean nothing, but this kind of stuff is all many of us have to express discontent and disgust with the leadership of the athletic department, especially for those who do not want to resort to boycotts for the players' sakes.

ALUMNI - you can sign it too.  You don't even have to remember your unique name.

Follow the 'Login' link and click the 'Create a Login ID Now' on the left hand side, click 'create uniquname', and follow the instructions.  I haven't used my umich login in 7 years, and it took me literally 87 seconds to recover it and reset a password.  Just need your name, birthdate, year of first UM degree, and last four of your SSN.  Theoretically it also allows you to create a login ID for those who were alumni before the advent of the uniquenames.  Haven't tired it myself, but saw a '91 grad say they could sign.

No, We The People (petitions.whitehouse.gov) is for the white house.  Change.org is for anybody.

The thing I like about this petition is that every name on that list is a Michigan student, alumni, or staff member.  We're all real people with a real stake in the university.  I mean no ill will towards fans without that connection, but there's something so much more solid about "five thousand students and alumni" than "five thousand people on the internet".

Wanted to ask if staff could sign. Maybe the top post should include that because I have a unique name but I'm not a student so felt like I shouldn't sign it.

EDIT: Well, still don't know if I should have signed it or not (with the non-student thing) but I did. ~shrug~ #7467

I'm not advocating that anyone does or does not sign this petition. Just make sure you read it and think through what you are signing your uniqename to. This is requesting that someone lose their job and have a major black mark put on their career. I just ask that you don't get caught up in a lynch mob and act without truly thinking the whole thing through.

If you don't think that's entirely justified at this point, I don't know what to tell ya.

It's not like he's going to be homeless out on the street begging for change if he loses the job.

1.  This is already a huge black mark on his career.  Not really the first.  We hope to make it the last.

2.  He'll be ok.  He can never get another job, and he'll still be ok.

3.  Plenty of others have lost their jobs (Jon Falk, Bruce Madej, etc), and while they weren't "fired" I'd still be more worried about them.

4.  How about Madej for the next AD?  Maybe he doesn't have the administrative/executive skills, but he sure does know what Michigan should be, and how it should be run.  Would have handled this way better than Brandon has.

I think you make all good points. I am just uncomfortable with some of the postings that seem to take personal pleasure at this. I think if a personal revels in someone else's misfortune (even if they brought it on themselves) that is a bad look.

Some do seem to be enjoying this too much.  A bit of a mob mentality.

I don't wish Brandon ill in the future with whatever he does, I just don't want that to have anything to do with UM.  He did the best he knows how (with the possible exception of the past few days), but it's just not the right fit here.

Honestly? Brandon proved himself a snake when he underbussed Hoke to save his own ass. This is the latest in a long line of accountability avoidance from DB. I feel exactly zero sympathy for Brandon, because he has earned none. Quite the opposite. I'll save my tears
