Buckeye-geddon: 1-year bowl ban, 9 schollies, extra probation, JT Show Cause

Submitted by BiSB on

One thread to rule them all;

One thread to find them (guilty of Major Violations);

One thread to bring them all (additional scholarship reductions);

And in Columbus bind them (during bowl season).

EDIT: Check, check, check, and check.  Ohio will not be eligible for post-season play next year, which includes the B1G Championship game. The NCAA added 4 scholarship cuts to Ohio's self-imposed 5, and added a year of probation. Tressel also hit with a Show-Cause.

EDIT II: There is some confusion about the lost scholarships. My understanding is that 9 scholarships over 3 years means that they have to AVERAGE a maximum of 82 scholarships per year over the next three years, as opposed to the typical maximum of 85 per year.

It means it'll be easier for Urban to talk him into redshirting?

Seriously, it depends on what he was told. If he was told "your career is safe, they aren't going to do anything that will damage the program going forward" I don't know why this would change his mind. If he was outright lied to things might be different.

I have nothing against Dunn but honestly we need to move on to the other great recruits that are interested in us. I can rest peacefully knowing that we had a great shot with him but that he was always leaning OSU (as his favorite school growing up) and that Urban Meyer had to lie to him to close the deal.

I'm newly transplanted to the Columbus burbs and it is 47 degrees today. I have seen a grand total of 4 snowflakes so far. Not sure how anyone has a snow plow "business" down here. I had a busboy job when I was 12 that was more demanding.

Last winter was my first in Columbus, and I feel like we had 12 inches of snow all year, most of which was the same 6 inches that got crusted over with ice and refused to melt for a month.

We did have some of the most horrendous ice storms I've ever seen, but snow was, as they say, thin on the ground.

According to Ace's last update, OSU has 18 verbal commits.  Any idea on how much room they have for next year's class?    If they're near their limit, the schollie sanctions may mean recruiting is over for them very soon.

Not sure what the lose of the Schollies really does when urban over signs anyways! OSU was suppose to have a small class this year and he's proving that wrong!

I hate the excuses I have heard from the Armpit State faithful this year.  I can only imagine their excuses in the coming years if anything happens.  No sanctions and we take care of them soley on a better coached team.

whether he goes to Ohio or M (behind Fitz) so the one-yr bowl ban, which he somehow knew about, wouldn't affect him. Or maybe Brionte doesn't care about not going to a bowl in his freshman year. I could see Brionte thinking "it's all good" when told about these sanctions. He'll definitely be the stud/feature running back because they may not be able to recruit many more while he's there, while M is justifiably going to go after Ty Isaac.

Brionte, my young friend, never make a major decision based solely on what people say.

While you are spending the next few years lined up in a spread offense, ponder the fact that "Meyer" rhymes with "liar."
