BTN is @ UM football practice today. Report will air this evening.

There should be some interesting Tweets throughout the day. In light of the fact that Gerry DiNardo's Twitter account has apparently been overtaken by a "recruiting update" bot, I suggest you all follow Dienhart today:

Dinardo sends that recruiting update out every Monday morning so there wont be any more of that today...he and Dave Revsine have been good twitter follows (along with Dienhart) for the teams they have profiled to date.

And I'm being honest, and let me preface it by saying I don't care who starts on the line as long as it is substantially better, but has anyone seen Kyle Kalis? He has received very little recognition or even mentioning...is he hurt? Gone? Like I said, I have no allegiance to him starting, if he's nit good enough , then fine...just seems fishy....if the oline is adequate, we can win 10, if not, we'll win 7-8 again.

I was wondering that too. I think Sam Webb tweeted a picture of him today, but it was just a headshot with a microphone, almost like a file photo or something.

Good question.

Best way to replace two senior tackles is with two freshmen tackles, amirite?

I don't know. To me, this doesn't seem like the best way to build your offensive line, constantly switching guys' positions and all.

I remain pessimistic.

Well, except that by my criteria, Mason Cole seems to be giving me reason for optimism in at least one spot. Kid must be killing it at LT; he seems to have that spot on lockdown.

Caveats everywhere on this, but...

I do remember watching the spring practice and Cole certainly looked like one of the better offensive linemen out there.  Made some mistakes, obviously, but I was shocked at how good he looked for a true freshman.

I'm the same way. Like I don't mind different groups to see what works best and have guys fight for positions, but how is Erik Magnuson supposed to be the best LT he can be if he practices at LT on Monday, LG on Tuesday, and RT on Wednesday. How is David Dawson supposed to compete at guard if he's a LG one day, RT the next day and RG the next.

It just seems odd that everyone is all over the place. Wouldn't it make more sense to say, "OK, our tackles are Magnuson, Braden, and Cole. Our Guards are Dawson, Kalis, and Bosch. Our centers are Glasgow, Miller, and Kugler. Go win your job."

What you said has been my major gripe with Funk. Last year kids couldn't play their own position let alone learn 2 more. I said this before but I guess that's how line coaches figure out depth in case of injuries.

That's a huge issue. No one, not even the coaches, can put a decent lineup together because we don't even know if Glasgow is a center or tackle. We don't know if Dawson is a LG or a RT. We definitely don't know what Mags is because he's played three positions since August 5th.

It's just baffling to me. I couldn't imagine Lloyd Carr playing Jake Long at LT on day 1, RG on day 2, RT on day 3 and settling for LT on day 4. That just seems like MAC level coaching to me.

Jabrill Peppers missed most of today's practice attending class. He did arrive in time to take part is some drills.

Derrick Green looks a lot better than this time last year. Running hard, too. But De'Veon Smith is No. 1.

Quick question on twitter etiquette - is this dickish to post his tweets?  This is publicity on this board for him, but is Dienhart losing out on any potential value by having people view them here and not at the link above?

The only thing he would be losing out on is a few dozen followers that he may get tonight.  He doesn't make any money by people clicking on anything in his tweets.  Post away! You can also embed the tweets too (it will show the image in the tweet instead of the link).  Click on the tweet, then "more" at the bottom right.  Click "Embed Tweet" to get the URL and copy it.  Then when you create a new post, switch to plain text editor, copy that embed, and switch back again to rich text editor.

Twitter posts seem to be open season, as they are free content. By posting them here it usually leads to people actually following him.  More people now see the quality of Dienhart's twitter than before. He will gain followers from posting to the board.

What time/show will this air on tonight?

BTN schedule has 'BTN Live' listed at 6pm for an hour and at 930 pm for 90 minutes.

Two different shows?  Same show with added stuff for the 90 minute version?

Both 'live' shows?

I called this earlier in the year that Speight would beat out Shane for the starting job once Gardner is gone. May or may not happen but I think people will be surprised at how stong Speight challenges for that job.

But honestly, what are you basing this on?  Morris played very well in the game he was given last year, it's still not a ton to go on.  Speight has been here for 15 minutes, his spring ball tape is very limited.  I'm being hypocritical because I think Mone will be a beast based on nothing but limited spring practice video, but what is there is very dominant.  What do you see with Speight that would put him ahead of Morris?

I think Shane is going to be a more erratic and error-prone player with a higher upside but a lower downside than Speight. Its just my opinion based on the data available, including their HS film, reports from people at camps/practice, the handfull of games we've seen Shane in, and the way Nuss appears to tear his hair out at Shane's mistakes. Speight just has a calm, confidence about him that translates very well in the college game and is hard to come by. His arms is not as stong as Shanes and he's not as mobile (people will be surprised by how mobile Shane is) but he throws an accurate ball and sees the field very well.

This is cool.  I've been wondering if they were gonna do this "split in half" thing.  I saw this on a College Gameday feature last year or the year before, but can't remember what team they were featuring.   But it showed how they would split the team in half and basically have mirror driils/play going on.  The head coach was basically at midfield and would watch one group go thru a play, and then turn around and the other group was already lined up and ready to run a play.  They said it was an easy way to get basically double the reps during practice time.  Seemed like a really simple way to get more done in practice and get more players meaningful reps.

This is why I'm not freaking out like many here seem to be doing.  The staff is trying to find the best combination right now that can work the best as a unit.  A week from now they should have the line set and roll with it.

Not a twitter update but Amara Darboh appears to be in VERY good physcial shape based on this pic that was posted on M-live today

Nothing new really... They're obviously impressed with the talent we have, now its time to win some games. The staff has built a roster most coaches in the country would envy. Let's do something with it, I believe they will. Go Blue!
