BTN releases night game schedule: Michigan has none
At the risk of sounding arrogant...but a Michigan night game doesn't end up on BTN....
We are not arrogant. We are just better.
sounds familiar...
Night games on BTN are never really must see games and that list proves it. The majority of them are always matchups between unranked squads. If there is a ranked team playing, they are usually about a 40 point favorite that puts the game away in the 1st quarter.
so this is a good thing, right?
night games a year and we're already maxxed out from the ESPN/ABC side of things so this is no surprise.
College football was meant to be played on Saturday afternoons anyway.
Bo would be proud of you for that comment.
Also, Bo would probably like night games if he realized the advantages... Louder home field crowd, higher profile for recruiting and we have lights now.
Uh, no. It's not like night games were never played in college football during his career; he just believed that they should start at noon on Saturdays and was adamant about that.
Wasn't his quote "toe meets leather at 1"?
Bo coached in several night games. He didn't coach that long ago.
Night games can be fun for fans, but can be a real hassle for the coaches and players (and fans who have to drive long distances) and can catch up to them the next couple of days. They should be a rare event.
Bo hated recruiting.
I'm glad we are not on that list. I only want one night game year. hate having to wait all day for the game, plus I work Saturday nights : (
New job. Problem solved
A "friend" of mine is getting married during the last Michigan-ND game for the foreseeable future. No chance I hell I'm leaving my house that day.
Stupid fucking time for a wedding. Two of my closest friends got married during the MSU and ND games last year. The one during the ND game I didn't even have cell reception because it was in Big Sur, but the MSU guy (whose dad played football at M and coached here under Bo) found a TV for us at the reception hall to watch the fourth quarter.
Still - don't getting married on a fall Saturday, unless you hate all of your male friends. Worst part for those guys? Their anniversary weekend will fall during a football game every year.
I think this is what must happen when you're in the tier below ABC / ESPN, because compare that list to some of the primetime Big Ten games already on the sechedule for the ESPN family of networks:
September 7th - Michigan vs. Notre Dame - 8 PM
September 28th - Wisconsin vs. Ohio State - 8 PM
October 5th - Ohio State vs. Northwestern - 8 PM
October 12th - Michigan vs. Penn State - 5 PM
The Purde / Notre Dame game is also a primetime game to be on an as yet to be determined ESPN network, but so far, Purdue, Wisconsin and Penn State are the only Big Ten teams that are not Michigan or Ohio State in the ESPN listings.
I like the pump up video below the listings with the british guy saying deep things about football.
That is awful, isn't it? A "guild of brotherhood?" lololol
Pretentious, and yet fatuous, the video is one I will show to my students, with the note that "this is what writing sounds like when you focus on words and not ideas."
It's a huge victory every single time you can avoid being on BTN.
The big payoff on my BTN subscription is Basketball season. That's when it shines.
That's great, but the big pay off is still football. Sure, most of the games are on ABC/ESPN, but having to miss 4 or so games a year would still totally suck.
I don't even really remember the days/issue of M not being on tv. And I would greatly prefer to keep it that way
Not even that long ago, but it sucked. I remember my first job out of law school, I actually went out and bought a direct tv subscription just for the September through November months, ontop of my cable subscription just to get gameplan or whatever it was called that showed a shit load of games.
In my formative years as an M football fan in the late 70s/very early 80s--prior to the advent of cable networks televising any and every game--the only games on TV were OSU, ND and maybe another game or even two in a really good year. Of course that lead to things like listening on the radio while playing football in the yard with my Dad and brother. I was forced to accept doing things that created cherished childhood memories instead.
Did you guys outside the Midwest miss that many games per year before the BTN? Here in Michigan I can't recall a game not being televised in the last 15-20 years. I know some games were on weird networks like ESPN+ though.
By the time I left school, I could get every game on the ESPN special package. The first game I had to miss for lack of TV was The Horror. I also missed the next week waiting for the movers. I was mad then, but they probably saved me from jumping out of a 14th story window.
You have to have it and I watch it all the time. I am overly hard on big ten network. It's just such a step down in coverage and quality. You're right about basketball season though, that's definitely when the network is most enjoyable.
I much rather going late to work than disappearing in the middle of my shift, so I guess it's good news.
Is a pretty good matchup for BTN. I think Illinois will be competitive this year and Washington is steeped in tradition. A good old fashioned Big Ten/ PAC 12 matchup. I like it.
I think that's the best of the BTN primetime games by far
There's some guy on here who's crushed that I have a wife.
Thank God.
Looks like a sunny outlook for CLASSIC Noon football. First game of the year better be at noon.
With ND falling off the schedule, whom do you think UM will host at night? Will it always be OOC or do you think they may play a higher profile B1G team UTL?
Dammit. That night game at Northwestern 2 years ago was the best road trip ever. Left MI on Friday morning and walked around Chicago all day Friday becoming appallingly inebriated. That hangover that you used to laugh at in college? It kicked my 40-year old (at the time) ass hard. The late kickoff was a life-saver. I was disappointed when I saw the game in November this year, immediately precluding it from a night kickoff. God knows we can't handle chilly weather in Chicago, Wisonsin, Minnesota and Michigan.
