BTN Poll: Michigan Has #1 Uniforms In B1G

Submitted by Franz Schubert on

Poll was comprised of 8 media members from various outlets. Of note is Sean Merriman from BTN who voted Michigan 6th this year and 10th in last years poll. You would think the MSU grad would take his professional opinion a little more seriously and set aside his Michigan bias.

  • 1. Michigan
    2. Ohio State

Agree. And I think Iowa > MSU.

It's not that MSU uniforms are awful ... I just find Iowa's better.

I wonder how much team success influenced vote? I'd bet more than a little bit. Back when MSU wasn't that good, I doubt their uniform would have been voted as highly.

I assume we're talking about classic football uniforms here and not uniformz or gross recent redesigns.

A lot of the uniforms in the middle there are the same. Jersey color, pants color, helmet color with big letter on helmet. Wisconsin, MSU, Nebraska, Rutgers, Minnesota, etc. I actually like Bucky the most out of that set because their W is the most attractive letter. The Nebraska N is earth-shatteringly plain. Advantage: Bucky.

Michigan and Iowa are terrific, with big edge obviously to us. Maryland shouid be great but is bad because apparently graphic design is hard for professional graphic designers.

Yes, all the poor performing teams seem to be clustered at the bottom.  If Northwestern was the Northwestern of old, you just know they'd be put at the bottom.

I would think that this is a totally expected result if we're judging uniforms in the Big Ten. I do see, however, that Indiana is getting its just desserts for special helmets that inspire renditions of "The Candy Man Can" though, and perhaps rightly so.

A Sparty with a complex over anything Michigan. His bias won't get him anywhere. I have plenty of Sparty friends and they agree our uniforms will and always be better. Hell, they even complain about what color green they actually are as it changes constantly. I would agree with Ohio State as second regardless of my hate for them. Penn State is just way too boring for me...just a tad too plain but that's been their thing so I understand it. Even non-sport fans know Michigan to a degree as they always refer to the helmet...it's college football even if you hate it.

Even for a MSU grad, I can't believe he found 5 uniforms better than ours. Don't they teach integrity and unbiased opinions in school? M uniforms are one of the best in the nation.

I really like a version they used to wear on the road with blue pants, white jersey, and orange helmet.  It hd a good contrast and looked really good when they played us in Ann Arbor.

Purdue is another school that used to have much better looking unis back in the day.

Iowa's should be no lower than third. Black and gold is awesome. Never understood why people say Penn State's or Nebraska's are so great. Yeah they haven't changed much over the years but there's nothing special about blue and white or red and white.

I grew up in PA and all my brothers went to Penn State so I've followed them for decades.

Over the last decade, PSU has really benefited from the backlash against uniformz.  I remember when their plain unis, especially the road all whites, were actually a little bit of an embarrassment to Penn State fans.

They hated being seen as so old-fashioned while having to recruit for teenage kids.  But that's the way JoePa wanted it and you could not argue with his success.  So boring plain old-fashioned unis it was.

But now, they are "classics" and actually have a cool factor to them because they are so different from the now-tired uniformz proliferation.

The moral of the story . . . pick a clean classic look and don't fuck with it.  Let the world come to you.

Hint, hint, Michigan.

You can debate Michigan's place in the top 3, but Merriman putting Michigan at #6 and #10 is obviously letting his personal vendetta sneaking into his professional life which is a great way of submarining your career by looking unprofessional

Then again, maybe ESPN will just give him his own daytime talk show

watching MSU try and butch up their spartan logo over the years.

They all had such a hard-on after 300came out that i thought the next iteration was just going to be a pic of Gerard Butler's well-oiled abs.
