BTN Kickoff: Toomer not impressed with M

Submitted by MGoRob on

Ok, whhhhaaaaaaaaaaa?

I understand not everyone can or wants to jump on the badwagon.  But seriously?  I would normally say I'd expect positive things from a Michigan almnus but then again I think there have been other articles about Amani Toomer not supporting the new coaching staff.  Regardless, I heard this bit on the BTN's Saturday Morning Kickoff a few minutes ago:

Rick PIzzo: Is the jury still out for you?

Amani Toomer: Definitely, I wasn't really happy with the way they performed last week.  After going through the film and looking at the stats ... and the stats are a little bit misleading.  Watching the game I wasn't impressed, I didn't feel like they had that balance that they really needed.

With that being said, I'm so happy to see Denard Robinson stepping out.  He wasn't the starting QB last year.  Got an opportunity to play.  Last year everytime I saw him I called him apple(?) because he'd turn the ball over every time he got in the game.... yadda yadda yadda...

Honestly, I don't know what more he could want.  First of all, 19/22 for 186 passing yards and 287 total rushing yards isn't balanced?  Sounds like an offensive explosion to me.  So does flipping rushing/passing stats make it more balanced?  Or just more typical, Amani.  Who cares how you get there.

Let's say I agree with him (I don't), but if we didn't have to be more "balanced" in a lopsided win, why would we?  Ugh, some people just can't accept a stellar performance even if its by one man on the team.  If this was any other player, I doubt he'd be saying anything.  If it was Braylon Edwards with 300 receiving yards, or Anthony Thomas with 200 rushing yards I wonder if he would still be complaining about not having a "balanced attack".

Anyway, that's all I have to say as I'm sick of people, especially alumni who clearly can't accept what Michigan is aiming to become.  Good luck vs the Irish.  Go Blue!

Mods: if this is too off topic (or negative karma) for gameday, feel free to delete.

I thank Toomer for his contribution to our program, but he needs to STFU.  It seems like he's hitting all the media circuits with this as it's the only way for him to be relevant since he retired.

I'm just saying its pretty petty to rip on a guy for being part of a few 8 wins team (which had supposed superior talent) when we would love to have an 8 win season right now.

Also, that doesn't even scratch the surface of the pettiness of going after an individual years after the fact for the record his team had (unless you are specifically blaming him for some losses, which I don't think he is). So if by some off chance BG says something negative about the team 20 years from now, are you going to rip on him for being on a 3 and 5 win team? I certainly wouldn't. I just think there is a better way to criticize a guy if you don't like the opinion he is spewing.

who isn't happy unless the ball is thrown 100 times downfield.  If he's not impressed by that game then he will never be impressed by anything RR does.

He might have a small point if he was talking about the defensive stats being misleading, but there was nothing misleading about the offensive stats.

It's not like the majority of the yards were accumulated on a couple of plays or something. Especially since it was on only 8 real possessions.

is trashing Michigan everywhere he goes. If you trash your family, you can never go home. This makes no sense to me, and i wish people would stop posting this guy's bs on this site. I think this is the 4th thread I've seen about him in the last two weeks. ENOUGH Toomer already. He's gonna be mad that we beat ND's ass today.

My apologies.  Didn't realize his interviews had been posted all week.  Normally I'm more in the know of what's posted on the board but I started a rotation this week so I've had to cut back.  If I'd known, I probably would have let it drop b/c there's nothing more annoying than seeing the same thing posted a million times (Lions Madden Superbowl, Certain Hype Videos, Complaint about Freep, etc.)

Guess I'm just too happy and excited for the ND game today, that anybody spewing negative things about Michigan today are just eating at me.

I find it ironic that a year ago we were all like "UConn?! Can't we get a REAL opponent" and then six months ago we were like "UConn?! Crap why didn't we schedule an easier opponent" and now we are like "UConn?! Well I want to see them against a real opponent"

denard continues to play well and we keep winning, fans will get back on board.  i hope denard can keep passing as well as he did last week and that our backs have some success so he doesn't end up carrying the ball 29 times again.

What a fuckin' dick. That dude has zero class. Every time he pops his head out of the woodwork he's bashing Michigan. He should move to North Dakota, never to be heard from again. (publicly)

Gee it's nice to see you again, Mr. Insult. Say if you see Amani Toomer around you mind asking him, since he's so good, whether he would like to try coaching at the college level?

I'd say this is "telling," but that's a dead horse of a joke around here.  Still, I think this might be a good demonstration of what RichRod has been up against the last couple of years.  (Yes, I'm assuming that Amani is not an outlier.)  Even with a great game he just can't please some people.  Embarrassingly impressionable people like Toomer drank the other (i.e., anti-RichRod) Kool Aid and it hasn't worked its way through their system.

Amani Toomer played four years at Michigan and people tell him to "fuck off" and "move to North Dakota" just because he has concerns about the current state of the program?  To quote Matt Millen, "that . . . is pathetic."  I think he's wrong about the UConn game too, but the guy is entitled to his opinion.  Grow up and learn to disagree without being a d-bag.

And the season was still a disaster. A bit of wait and see isn't a ridiculous proposition. What if we lose today? What if October is over and we're still looking for win #6. Look, he's wrong in that it was a good win. But we still have no idea what our defense, or the team, will look like. Today could let us know a lot more. Or not. Maybe ND sucks, or is great. This is one of those seasons we're just going to have to wait and see. Amani works for BTN. He's supposed to give opinions. Desmond just said our defense was questionable last week. Take back his Heisman? And you all might want to be careful...the site warned that there were going to be point penalties and bans for trashing players, and it has happened. And this thread looks like you're red flagging mods to do just that.

... I understand he has said more than enough negative things about the program lately,  but he was one of Michigan's greatest receivers who represented our school well for 4 years.  This bullshit about him being on a four loss team is absurd... one all big ten (second team, i think) receiver isn't at fault for that.

EDIT: This wasn't directed at everybody on this thread, just at people who resort to name calling and vitriol.
