I've always wondered this, too, and felt kinda bad that I could never figure it out.
Video here:
Big Ten: Honoring Legends. Building Leaders. from Daily Planet ltd. on Vimeo.
That's the video. The guy in question is at the 26 second mark.
it was Mateen Cleaves, sparty grad circa 2000. I still don't get showing a Nebraska dude prior to them joining the conference, but still love BTN
Go Blue!
I've always thought it looked like Barry Bonds.
...probably in anticipation of the Big Ten adding Arizona State. Hey, anything is plausible these days.
Sorry. Still too soon?
I think he is just a guy.
I thought it was a former Northwestern WR, or DB from their championship years (1995 - 1996). Unfortunately, I just did a quick search and I think I might have been wrong.
Let's hope it the ONLY TIME I'M WRONG TODAY.
like Gene Smith, Ohio's Athletic Director. Maybe?
Always thought it was Lindsey Hunter. I know it's not him but I still think it's him every time.
I always thought the same thing, too.
Oh, man. That's a good one. I think he looks more like that now than he did when he left Nebraska.
On a second note: I FUCKING HATE IT WHEN THEY USE PLAYERS OR COACHES THAT WERE NOT PART OF THE LEAGUE WHEN THEY PLAYED AND/OR GRADUATED FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOLS. You're a new-comer. Deal with it, shut up and count your BTN money.
You mean like when BTN goes all retro on us and puts on a Big XII game from 20 years ago between Nebraska and Missouri?
It's like, uh, this isn't a B1G classic!
Or even that commercial, with Tommy Frazier highlights from Nebraska. TOMMY FRAZIER PLAYED IN THE BIG FUCKING EIGHT.
Edit: Sorry, people. I find myself going all-caps in a lot of my posts today. Needless to say, I'm a little amped.
JSBlue was correct. It is Johnny Rodgers. The reason it doesn't look like him is that he graduated from Nebraska at age 46!
I got a response from BTN and from the firm that produced the video (Daily Planet Ltd.) that both state that it is Rodgers.
Thanks for confirming, Yo. Good call, JSBlue, and your first ever post too. For the win!
FWIW, according to Johnny Rodgers' Wikipedia page (because everything is right there, amirite?), Rodgers was the first ever Heisman Trophy winner to have previously been convicted of a felony.
He was convicted of a felony, for robbing a gas station, while a student at Nebraska.
