RE: Melanie Collins

So, you've regressed to the point of allowing bikini girls to tweet rumors to get traffic? Is there an actual editor onsite? Did anyone there receive a real journalism degree, or are you just . . . I really don't know . . . using the Force? Is yellow your favorite color?

I should not have bothered to defend myself.  It's too nice of a day and I'm feeling lazy wasting it like this.  The scrimmage thread has been interesting though.

PROTIP: I'm giving you crap because I'm a woman seriously fucking tired of getting crap AT WORK for being young and attractive. I grew up with a great family (and lots of male cousins) who encouraged me to do whatever I want, let me play football and hockey with them and on teams, and never made any indication that being a girl should make any fucking difference as long as I worked as hard as anyone else, and I'm pursuing a degree in engineering at UM like my dad and grandpa before me.

Unfortunately, it's been a rough adjustment dealing with people who can't get past OMG BOOBZ ON A ENGINEER and before you dare fucking suggesting something, I dress as plainly as possible, do my work well and ALWAYS remain professional, yet there's always some jackoff who can't deal and makes an awkward fucking comment. It's not severe enough to necessitate HR intervention, but for fuckssake, I am tired of it, and me and my strip-club-frequenting-mgopoints think it is actually UNACCEPTABLE (!!!), not just sarcastically so. I'm a good sport about A LOT of shit, and anyone can attest to my sense of humor, but as you can see this has touched a fucking nerve, and this thread probably should've been deleted by now anyway.

Clever if you feel that uncomfortable at such comments that alone is grounds for HR action.  You are probably aware it's called a hostile work environment.  I'ts heavy lifting to respond with a complaint to HR each time this happens but it is effective,  What I mean by heavy lifting is all the BS/ consequenses that come with doing what you feel is right.  I made suggestive comments in this thread, justified or not this is not the work place.

Your rant and displaced anger at some anonymous poster suggests you keep this crap in and dispalce your anger in a way that does not get you any real blow back.  It feels good for a minute, but you know you gotta do the heavy lifting and address this or it will come back again and you will save your stamps until a less threatening object or person will triggers your anger again then blow off steam repeating the cycle.  Clever you can stop that BS in your work environment it's just gonna take some heavy lifting, unfair i know first hand, worth it yes.

and I have seen others deal with the situation you face.  Obviously professionalism is critical and job performance (or character for that matter) has nothing to do with physical attributes.

Most of my friends at work are ladies, and of course some of them are attractive, but they're all pretty sharp on the job IMO.  I'm sorry for all the crap you face and certainly I can feel your frustration in your "vent".  All I can tell you is that most my female friends in the office are pretty edgy, meaning they won't hesitate to make a sexual reference.  Those of us with similar personalities have a lot of fun with it, but it's important to know the person you're talking to first.  There are several women on staff I would never joke with that way, as I'd never want to offend them.  I get along well with them also.

For what it's worth (probably nothing), I have a terrific fiancee' who is also a professional - a civil engineer in the Grand Rapids area.  We are a great match personality-wise, and I thank the stars that we found each other.  She knows all about my sense of humor, and fortunately for me she appreciates it and is capable of giving it right back.  I honestly do try not to offend anyone, as not everyone's humor is the same (a point I made earlier).

Certainly hope I didn't offend you, as not my intent.  I'm sure with your education and strong personality you will reach your goals in spite of the obstacles.

no apology for someone who dresses in a two piece bikini on the interwebs, who proports to be a reporter, waves her hands through her hair suggestively, who posts BS....no worse than BS a flat out lie just to feed her attention addiction.  Save your rightiousness and your indignation for someone worthy of such energy.  Was she asking for it, you bet your a@@ she loves both the cat calls, the suggestive language, and she loves the knight in shinning armour that stands guard over her womanly virtue.  She loves both and will at some point bring copius amounts of attention to herself in the future.  Yeah, she got her 15 seconds and she can;t wait for her 15 min. This is maddness to argue with and call out a fellow poster then go all, hey look at me throw down my gauntlet and defend this woman guy from anonymous poster guy.  Get lost with that BS.  If it gets me negged I'll post it again.
