Bruce Pearl to receive multi-year show cause penalty
And each of his involved assistants are to receive one-year show cause penalties. Apparently, all of the parties were notified today. Sounds like the official announcement will happen tomorrow.

Tressel or bust. The NCAA has absolutely no moral ground to stand on if Tressel doesn't receive the same punishment, especially given his recent comments about coaching again.

...but count me among those who expect little or no NCAA punishment to be levied on either Tressel or OSU. argh.

this got tressle's attention. Lying to the NCAA has to be breaking Rule #1. And he lied not about recruits, but about current "star" players so his team gained a huge advantage. And in my mind ... Gene Smith was in on this too. Goodnight Columbus ....
Go Blue!

I can't figure it out, NCAA, are you a tough guy or Mr. Aww Shucks?
August 23rd, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
I imagine this can sideline a career for a few years. How do you explain this one during an interview?
August 23rd, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
The answer is that the NCAA is slow and incompetent.
They are neither a "tough guy" nor a "Mr. Aww Shucks".
You have to be competent for either. They most certainly are not competent and therefore have zero credibility.
Just re-reading the long laundry list of compliance issues associated with Tressel and Ohio State is one massive blackeye on the NCAA. They have no credibility, so I don't know how anyone could expect a credible response or action from that organization.

Dave Bliss is coaching (high school, but still); the guy who blew the whistle on him (Abar Rouse) is blackballed. What more is there to say....

This is just wrong.

I am not holding my breath for Tressel to receive a show cause.

While walking with my son this evening, he suggested that EA Sports allows you to enable improper benefits and pay-for-play while in coach/dynasty mode. He suggested that there be an increasing percentage each game that you are busted. Also noteworthy was that it would not impact your team until the year following being busted.

That's how I'd program it. Gives major edge in recruiting, but more likely to get players suspended for stupid stuff? Unless you go into "Foully Corrupt" mode, where players don't get suspended for anything?

"It would not impact your team until the year following being busted"
...if ever.
