Bruce Feldman says that the terms yesterday were not accurate...
The numbers were much toonhigh per Feldman on multiple reports on Twitter.
Bruce Feldman @BruceFeldmanCFB 5m5 minutes ago As I said on @FoxSports1 today, I was told by sources the reports on the $8M per offer by #Michigan to Jim Harbaugh are not accurate

Hackett always gets his man
December 18th, 2014 at 8:38 PM ^
Give it another 10 years and we'll be there
December 18th, 2014 at 8:11 PM ^
If Hackett's lips aren't moving, then don't fucking believe a thing you read or hear. Including fucking Feldman. We live in a day of misinformation.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:13 PM ^
Does anybody else think that 6/8 year for 48 million (or whatever the figure is) is an insult to the university of Michigan? As in "we have to pay a coach an insane amount to want to come to our school"? I know we should pay a coach well, but should we have to pay him THAT MUCH to want to come?
December 18th, 2014 at 8:17 PM ^
Great schools don't get great faculty by just waving their hands and saying "come teach and research here!" They identify good people and pursue them with salaries, resources, etc. commensurate with their abilities. Should be the same for coaches, too.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:20 PM ^
It is ridiculous to think that UM is so great that they should be immune from the market forces that affect other schools.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:20 PM ^
We are trying to get one of the beat coaches in the NFL. It would be an insult if we had to offer someone like Addazio or Butch Jones 8 million, but not Jim Harbaugh. If you want to come at the king (NFL), you best not miss.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:23 PM ^
No. Because he's not just "a coach."
December 18th, 2014 at 8:24 PM ^
Head coaches in college and NFL are really both underpaid. I don't understand why they make so little. NFL teams routinely drop $10-15M on a player that has less impact on wins and losses than a head coach. More importantly, coaches' salaries aren't suppressed by a salary cap. My personal feeling is that college coach salaries will follow NFL salaries as long as possible to limit mobility. Regardless of the comparison to other coaches' salaries, $8M for JH is a steal.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:25 PM ^
This is top of line, arguably the best. If that's what you want you have to pay the going rate. If he doesn't come no one else is getting that kind of money.
December 18th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
I see your point but I think thats not the context of the offer. I think it's that high just for Harbaugh. I say that because the best to my knowledge he is more of an NFL lean. I think they made a serious offer so they can get him to seriously consider it. or maybe he said off the record to Hackett that he'd do it for 8mil/season. I don't know, just guessing here.
For example if Hackett really wanted Charlie Strong (for sake of the example no way this is an endorsement) he could offer $8 mil a season and I bet he would think about it. I believe he's only around $5 mil a season currently.
Just thinking of angles, only time will tell.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:30 PM ^
The $48 million is accurate, it's just that Harbaugh has to pay for Ipads and a private jet out of that.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:38 PM ^
I imagine it's 49 mill/8yrs and that includes incentives. So in other words, it'll be closer to 5 mill a year with the possibility to make it six depending on performance. That would not only make sense economically, but it would explain the outrageous figure.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:33 PM ^
I'm officially becoming jaded to all this. One way or the other, I just want it over. I'm now that guy.

I'm getting that way too. I'm, naturally, a very impatient person so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
If an inaccurate offer was leaked then this tells us it was done on the Harbaugh side. Most notably this would have been done by Harbaugh's agent who would need JH permission to do so.
If JH knowingly leaked the Michigan offer then the most obvious reason is to see what other suitors there may be out there. If JH had a backdoor agreement then did this I would find it rather douchey to be honest.
But it appears certain that JH is looking to see if he can stay in the NFL with a significant pay upgrade....why else leak this information?
John has a Super Bowl ring and Jim wants one too.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:48 PM ^
Today on SVP, Ryan Rousillo was taking about how 4 years ago JH said that Ross offered him $7M/yr to coach the Dolphins. This of course wasn't true. Makes me wonder...

It's funny that "those who stay" (the guy on Twitter) that posted the 6 year $48M is "supposedly" friends with Harbaugh's agent. Hard to fuck that up when you claim you get your info from the horse's mouth.

Sounds like Jim's agent rounded the number UP to drive larger offers from potential suitors. Somebody lied intentionally and it wasn't Michigan.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:44 PM ^
UM did indeed offer $48 million. The only question are the years.
December 18th, 2014 at 10:38 PM ^
Yeah, more than likely it is 8 years - that math makes more sense.

its$48 million for the rest of his life.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:44 PM ^
Harbaugh will be worth whatever the have to pay him. So much in the future of the dept depends on getting a high impact guy now. There is so much stinking money involved in this -- not like when Bump was out & we hired a reltatively unknown dude from Miam of O --
they have seating fees, season tickets, el supremo luxury boxes, television exposure, parking, concessions, merchandise -- this is a huge enterprise & if they try to sell Schiano or someone of that nature as the GUY -- it may take them a couple years to recoup what they might lose in revenues the first couple years, unless some type of unforseen run of luck makes the team great in one year -- Harbaugh can win 8 games his first year & be a success -- not so much with the others --
Only a grand slam HR like JH will be sufficient this time - they whiffed the last couple times -- they miss this one -- they risk lossing plenty
December 18th, 2014 at 9:02 PM ^
I'm the only person in Michigan I guess who doesn't think JH is a grand slam. He is an amazing coach and leader there is no doubt. But how many people really believe he will stick around more than 3 or 4 years at the most? He has a track record of happy feet and he's 50 years old. There can be no doubt that a Super Bowl ring is on his bucket list.
What would be the point in tying ourselves in knots over this person, throwing our check book at him and then having to redo this search in 3 or 4 years?
Michigan sorely needs stability with a proven winner. Harbaugh is a proven winner but his career trajectory does not show a track record of stability and relationship building. Stoops or Miles would, based on their track record, be probable high win candidates who would stick around and build. We need that more than we need instant wins.
December 18th, 2014 at 9:07 PM ^
You're the only one
December 18th, 2014 at 9:14 PM ^
I seriously question the insanity around the frenzy of trying to buy a coach. What we need is a proven winner in college football and who is likely to stick around for a long stretch of time. As you mentioned, a Bob Stoops or a Les Miles fit the requirements.
December 18th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
I would take 4 years of Harbaugh over 6 years of Miles. As for Stoops, do we know for a fact he is an option?
December 18th, 2014 at 9:05 PM ^
All I know is that the leaking of that $8 Million a year figure will haunt us if Harbaugh does not come here.
Does anyone else remember the last time Jim Harbaugh was in contract talks and fake offers were leaked by Harbaugh's camp? Yeah, me neither, but it did happen. This is getting weird.

Got Stoops that would be a home run too
December 18th, 2014 at 9:15 PM ^
If the offer is not legitimate, please give the source. The offer does seem high, however, it seems the length of time that is associated with the coaching search is indicative of a higher than normal offer. I suspect we have at least a week of search-bits left. I am still quite pleased with the actual time frame of the process. I don't believe we made mistakes in the prior 2 coaching hires, but the major majority seems to be on the same page for once. The thought of Harbaugh not accepting may be unnerving, yet with almost every one realizing that a divided house will not stand, our so called plan b will still be a home run. With that said, I am 4 margaritas into the evening, but also with the next 14 days off for vacation. So, may everyone have a peaceful holiday with a moment of reflection on those who are less fortunate than most. Thank you all for your time. Go Blue.... Always!

The other day I finally gave in and called an old friend who I know is getting solid info, and the just like other people on here have said the very first thing he told me was don't believe the media because they have no clue what is going on. I swear every report since has gotten proven false eventually.
December 18th, 2014 at 9:31 PM ^
wouldn't 6y or 8y for 48M or 7y for 49M seem more likely focal points?
Sincerely,

The reason NFL reporters are saying Harbaugh to NFL is because they want to make sure the NFL looks more superior then then NCAA
