Bri'onte Dunn's drug test clean, father states.

Yesterday, I provoked a bit of fun with the (true) news that the possible pot/paraphernalia charges (misdemeanors) were dropped.  I never thought that the story was a big deal (and I said as much), but I also thought that it was funny as hell, to picture the mom of a 6'2" 220-lb. Ohio State freshman football player pleading with cops on the street in Alliance, Ohio that the pot in the car was already there.  I still think so.  It's a funny story.  Of course, no one should have ever jumped to any grand judgments about Dunn, Urban Meyer or Ohio State in any event.

Now, honesty and fairness demands an update to the story, from the Twitter News Network.  And I am more than happy to supply it.  Via a Tweet of a statement originating from one Brion Dunn, father to Bri'onte:

Brionte Dunn's drug test in Columbus comes back clean his father said. Story upcoming on http://cantonrep.com

https://twitter.com/toddporter/status/230670198162747394

If there's more to the story, that's fine.  And actually, the facts as currently presented (misdemeanor traffic violation; allegation of drug paraphenalia, dropped; drug test, passed) all makes it hard for me to picture what discipline, if any, Meyer might propose.  I expect that at this time, it is all left up to the team.  Meyer can demand a non-legal explanation from Dunn what went down, and he can give him a stern talking-to about the kind of publicity it all brought to OSU football.  "Team rules" are different from violations of Ohio law.

Update: The Canton paper updates:

Busted running light and he gets caught up in national news. Plus, how does any of this lead to him needing a drug test?

Pot stays in your system for days to weeks. A positive test does not prove the contraband was his. For that matter, a negative test does not prove that it wasn't his.

Not much else going on, so I personally don't mind discussion topics that are only tangentially relevant or that only appeal to the interests of a small percentage o posters. I could see not posting this if it were during the season, but during these final weeks of slow news before the season build-up starts, why not?

Myself and a "caravan" of 2 cars/10 guys were driving up north from Ann Arbor for a weekend at a cabin.  We had an open case in the car and all of us were drinking - except the driver.  We also had cases of beer in the trunk of both cars.  We got pulled over in St. John's, had our beers poured out, each received a short lecture in the back of the squad car, and the officer confiscated the other unopened cases.  No tickets, no arrests, no record.

Oh how I miss the old days.

EDIT:  by miss the old days I mean the police were willing to handle this without arrests, jail, court dates, huge fines, ridiculouos increases in insurance premiums, etc.   None of us were drunk, clearly.  In hindsight, it was a dumb thing to do, but we were smart enough to A) not let the driver drink and B) not get shit faced on the road.

And yeah, ESPN deemed it newsworthy too.

And at that time, I speculated that a urine test would be likely as well as possibly dispositive.  Seems the OSU athletic department thought the same.

And yeah I think fairness demanded a like post, in a like place and manner, that a drug test was apparently cleared.  It is precisely what we'd do for one of our guys.  Because it's fair and accurate to do so.

Anyway, logging on to the MGoBoard allowed me to get the update on Notre Dame suspensions, women's gymnastics in the Olympics and the new James Bond video.

I'm glad the kid was clean and he evidently told the truth. Plus, in a year or two, when he transfers to Michigan after realizing Meyer actually doesn't know how to to use a big RB in his offense it's best this isn't in his background.

In this day and age, it was newsworthy.  Thirty or forty years ago, like that used to get "swept under the carpet," but in today's tabloid universe, it's all "fair game."

When he was stopped and there were drugs in the car, it was newsworthy.  If he has, indeed, tested clean, it's also newsworthy, if only to downgrade the status of the original traffic stop to "not newsworthy."

If you do that your test comes back as "diluted" which according to the courts is a fail. My friend got a DUI, doesn't even do drugs btw, he was training for a marathon so he was drinking lots of water. Tested "diluted" and was sent to jail for a probation violation. Of course what a PO does aabout a violation is at their discretion but this was more about the testing so I digress .(ramble much general lol)

So we're taking the words of someone's parent that he didn't fail a drug test? What is this, a 5th grade field trip to the zoo? "Just bring a note from your dad that you don't smoke pot and we're good to go!" I mean I couldn't care less that a college kid is smoking weed but if he really passed a test, shouldn't his dad have, you know, proof?
