The Michigan Difference
//But seriously, you're right. Michigan is awesome
I love listening to Sam Webb and the recruiting roundup on WTKA on my drive every morning.....but, how many differently phrased questions about Dunn can people possibly ask? Every morning some caller, e-mailer, or tweeter has a Dunn question. It's amazing.
How many different ways can Sam find to describe the seats in his Cadillac, its traction control (winter's coming! in case you didn't know), or his how much his mother loves Suburban Cadillac.
I know that it's an ad and that same has to be enthusiastic, but, boy, does he beat that sh*t to death.
Hopefully Bri'onte won't want to go to a school where you can pass no matter what, even by giving minimal effort.
That's not what Tate told me...
"too soon" period must have passed. +1
I'd never poke fun at someone for struggling academically, it's the fact that he gave that interview that deserves ridicule.
I think struggling to take academics seriously is better said. And that may merit fun poking.
is a good sign that Brionte is comfortable with Michigan from a football perspective and is now trying to work out the academic side of things. If he does plan on early enrollment, I'd think he needs to make his decision sooner rather than later.
Regestration for classes starts soon. Being a professor at the U, atheletes do get prefered registration, but its before the general ed kids. If he wants every class he wants, he will need to get in the mix soon.
Not to say the university can't work some magic, but for some classes, once they are full there is no way to fit anyone in. Even a top recruit.
Although you're right, the EE guys aren't too concerned about what classes they take. They just want to get on campus. Then in the fall they can get good classes.
I take it you're not a Professor of English.
he just came over from MSU. Give him a chance.
I hope you're not a professor of English.

Edit: Jeez you guys are fast.
I know you don't have to be a good speller to be a professor (in some fields), but I'm willing to bet that you aren't one...
after trolling ohio for the better part of the past two years, Dunn had best GTFO ASAP and enroll in ann arbor, move into the dorms and then sing his LOI.
A karaoke LOI?! How fun!
Kids who enroll early don't sign or sing LOI's until signing day if they do it at all. Some kids don't even sign them. If he is enrolled he is good.
The big question is, if BD comes to A2 can they use a 2011 scholarship on him?
EE kids do not sign LOIs at all as there's no need to sign off on your intent to do something you've already done.
Michigan will count the first three early enrollees to 2011.
...unless you've enrolled at LSU in which case all bets are off.
It's like the old saw that the job isn't really yours until you've cashed your first paycheck.
In soviet LSU, letter of intent signs you!
beginning of January, then someone will get a peek at the enrollment list and then post on MGoBlog that there is a freshman named Brionte Dunn enrolled at Michigan.
There was some recruit a few years back and his name is escaping me that was enrolled at like all three of his final schools, including Michigan, so no one still knew until he announced at one of the all star games.
Big Will. He had registered but said he wasn't coming to Ann Arbor.
How does that work? I assume the kid had scholarships to each of the school, but it would seem like he would owe the schools he ultimately didn't go to some sort of administrative fees for using their resources for registering and then dropping the classes. Did he face any consequences for doing that, or was everyone cool with it?
The first day of classes is January 4th and the last day to enroll for Winter term classes (last day to early enroll) is January 24th. I believe there was some question a couple years ago about whether Devin Gardner would enroll early because there was a delay in his paperwork. Dunn should be good to go if he commits soon.
Sam basically said that he thinks Dunn has Ohio in his heart, but in his mind knows that it isn't the best place for him. That has to be tough on the kid. Hopefully logic prevails and he goes blue.
Hopefully Dunn's cousin and Michigan's coaching staff can change Brionte's feelings in his heart. We need Brionte to be all in - heart and mind!
I would LOVE to have Bri'onte enroll at Michigan. Having said that, how many times have mentors, parents & counselors advocated "following your heart". I realize that the academic standards between the two Universities are drastically different, but graduating from ANY Big Ten University is a tremendous accomplishment. I can also rationalize the "coaching-thang" to Michigan's benefit. But in the end, I want Bri'onte because he wants Michigan! No conditions, no second-guessing, no looking over his shoulder.
Which ever school he chooses, it will be the correct decision as long as he is truly committed to his decision. Best of luck Bri'onte - you will be a success!
solid post, seconded. The kid's a great athlete and while he might not be ideal for Urban's system I'm sure they'll find a way to make it work.
As an example, look at Denard. He wasn't ideal for what people thought Hoke/Borges were gonna run but he stayed with his heart and it turned out to be a fantastic decision.
Here's hoping Brionte's heart realizes that Columbus is a hellhole and Ohio is a "win at all costs" institution not deserving of his loyalty.
Like Bri'onte, my head said to go to Michigan, but my heart was elsewhere. I was young and only knew what I knew at the time.
I grew to love Michigan. It can actually happen.
logic yes but I will definately not fault him for not coming here. I've always mainted that if you want to go to a certain school, then do it. So many kids go to X, Y school becuase their parents or advisor wish them to go there and then flameout, its not worth it follow your heart.
TomVH just gave an update that reiterated the academic talk by Jackson. Tom basically said in a PC way it comes down to whether Bri'onte & his Dad sift through the bullshit that Meyer is going to feed them about never having a big back and not running the spread.
Ball is in Bri'onte's court, and we have a punchers chance. We'll know shortly...
criticizes Hoke & Co. for being "unable to close the deal?"
I'll say it'll happen within 12 hours.
I say that b/c you're right. We'll also hear about how Meyer is 1-0 against Michigan when it comes to recruting and that's just the way it's going to be b/c he is the greatest football coach in the history of the universe...Whatever, though - for the first time in a long time we can just point to the result of the Game.
with that crowd. That's why I keep a supply of cheese popcorn for the entertainment moments this board provide.
If you eat cheese popcorn every time someone posts something inane here.
Like this post, for example.
delsunial poster provide that laugh factor...you're good!
Rich Rod would have landed him.
Naww, Rich Rod would have had Dee Hart
I'll be okay with it as long as we can get Greg Garmon as a consolation prize.
Is that even a possibility? There hasn't been too much news on that front. Thank you.
It's possible, yes, but it's unlikely.
What about Wes Brown?
I'd take him, too.
12 post! As a matter of fact it may be its own post!
The fact that he is still wavering tells me that his heart, if it does lean Ohio, will not prevail. Your heart leads to snap decisions, the mind leads to reasoned ones.
"Your heart leads to snap decisions, the mind leads to reasoned ones." Larry King after his 7th divorce.
He probably wasnt thinking with his heart or his mind going into some of those...
Reason is a slave to the passions.
It would have to be you. It would be very interesting to see your take on this in another diary. That, and I now drink a Molson Canadians every time you post something just to get a better read on your perspective.
BOOM! DAVID HUM'D!
I wish I could listen to Sam's Recruiting Roundup. The podcast has been down for over a week now. Seriously, the Hubble Telescope takes less time to fix.
Seriously! Somebody call NASA, this is important!
it has been fixed for a couple days now
Podcast works fine for me. I have always had a script error come up on it no matter the browser, but if you select no on aborting it, it will work. I am not sure what your issue is, but the script error seems to be a common problem with their website.
Alright! I've been checking every day and today it's finally fixed. Yeah the script thing has always popped up. It was more than that going on. Now I have about an hour and a half of roundups to listen to. Hope I don't get disturbed with work stuff. I have priorities here.
i believe that you can register for winter semester as early as Nov 28 at UM. anyone checking any records? since enrollment needs to happen before the first day of classes, first week in Jan for both ohio and UM, then he needs to register prior to national signing day, and actually will need to do it this year so that he can take classes on Jan 2. soooooo, this is soon......
Yep, I'm keeping an eye on it. I've already screen shotted all the Dunn last names already registered so I have something to compare it to. Oftentimes, a student will have a more formal first name to go by, so Brionte may not show up. The new UMich directory is much more private, so it may be slightly difficult to get absolute confirmation that it's him.
Whoa, down boy! A little excited huh?
Again, does he want to be a feature back like Alabama seems to put out all the time now and be ready for the pro's or a blocking back/decoy for guys like Percy Harvin and Tebow. Thats how kids need to make the school choices sometimes, sad but true.
Wynn was two inches shorter than Dunn, the same weight but quite a bit faster, and a higher level recruit (also from Ohio). And Meyer still kept him in the garage (@650 yards?).
Dunn will never be featured there if that's his decision...
This is the reality that BD has to face. The truth is that if he goes to tsio, he probably won't do us all that much harm because he will not be featured. It really is an opportunity cost to us, because he may do great things at UM and we would miss out on that. So this is not a case where the person wins regardless of the outcome. In this case, BD probably loses if he goes "with his heart." Just another reason to strongly hope he goes Blue -- it seems like the best decision for him. So let's hope he sees that. My guess is that he probably will.
If he does go to Ohio and does get some carries his family is gonna cringe every time he breaks through a hole because they'll know Dynamite will be waiting to light him up. Destroyed by his own cousin. It has a Shakespearean quality to it.
DeShawn Wynn was at Florida before Urban Meyer was hired there. And even though Wynn was there, that doesn't mean Meyer really thought he was a good fit for his offense. Steve Threet played quarterback for Rich Rodriguez, but he wouldn't have been recruited by Rodriguez.
I hope Dunn"s mother was impress also...
Hopefully someone (hey Dymonte) is constantly reminding Brionte about no 1,000 yard rushers. I also wonder how many rushing attempts those "bigger" backs had under Urban. Brionte might find himself only being used as a specialty back for short yardage. Whenever I watched Florida, it seemed that the QB or a some fast little guy were getting the majority of touches.
Tebow was a big running back
Meyer is going to use a back that is complimentary of Braxton Miller. That would seem to be a tough interior runner who you doesn't have a face you want to punch. That seems to be Dunn.
Hopefully, the folks who are giving this young man advice are explaining why this decision cannot be based solely on "heart." It has to fit logically into his designs for his life, both on and off the field. That means a realistic evaluation of the academic programs as well as the campus family, and what he's likely to expect at the conclusion of his time in school. Bottom line -- which choice puts him in a better position to succeed, no matter what he does with the rest of his life.
I sure hope I know what his head is telling him, regardless of his heart.
I think he would have committed at the Game if he wanted to switch his decision. The fact that he hasn't probably means he is staying put.
he isn't going to "anounce" he is just going to show up on campus of ethier OSU or Michigan in Jan.
If I decided on OSU (to be a glorified blocking/short yardage back) I'd make a big announcement saying the recruiting process is over. If I decided on Michigan (to be a feature back and gain 1500 yards/season) I'd wait until I was on campus in January.
lol at everyone trying to figure out what the best choice for him is.
Don't use the word 'vest' with Brion'te Dunn. It is bad juju
someone as conflicted in his heart as Dunn (with what negatives are already known about their program) being able to make such a drastic transformation into loving michigan. I mean, I know it can happen but, I just don't see it in his case.
Also, I am a little perplexed to think someone who bleeds as blue; and wants men who "want to be at michigan" as much as brady that this could really be his one rb to pursue so hard. Is this whole recruitment more a reflection of how low we are sitting with any other stud rb recruits?
If BD were to choose USC, it would solve two problems:
1) It's a pro-style offense that features Tail Backs
2) It's not UofM -- people in Ohio would just say, "Oh well ..."
Obviously, it's 2500 miles away from home and they only play ND in S.Bend every other year so his family wouldn't be able to see him play. I also have no idea of the depth chart at Tail Back -- I would venture to guess that they are deeper than we are at that position so playing time would be harder to come by.
It's been pretty obvious this recruiting season that UofM sees a RB in this class as a luxury and not a necessity. They could easily grab another OL/DL or CB or even an additional WR. They already grabbed the kid from Pioneer so they actually have a RB already. If it came down to Dunn or Diggs, I think I'd rather see a gamebreaker like Diggs ...
You and me both brother!
Dunn has stars in his eyes right now and is going to listen to anything that Urban has to say to him. I think he is a Buckeye and Urban will seal the deal unfortunately.
Who is that a photo of?
The movie angels in the outfield.
Your witticisms lack that most important element--wit.
I hope he loves sanctions and no bowl games.
1. How Much is Urban and Olieo Offering ?
2. what type CAR will he get to test drive for 4 year?
3.What JOB will he get to get paid for without having to attend?
4. What classes can he pass WITHOUT every attending or
succeeding with"minimal effort"
5.Wheres the FREE STUFF?
These are the questions facing Dunn
Don't forget how many bartered tattoo's can he obtain.
only to keep him from coming to Michigan. Even if it means that he wastes 1 scholarship, UL is the type of coach who would do this. He'll give Dunn enough carries to keep him around, but he won't be the feature back. To me, it's blatantly obvious what is going on here.
That made him leave Florida were related to the burns on his legs from his pants always being ablaze?
My hope, (pure conjecture mind you), is Dunn would choose OSU all things being equal, but all things are not equal here, and he has resigned himself to make the best decision and that is choosing Michigan. Dunn may feel he is letting down friends and family by opting for M, which makes its tough to finally make his choice public.
I think the kid has probably already made up his mind, but the final act is a bit daunting. I hope I am right and I hope he goes Blue. I think Dunn is a fantastic prospect. His highlights are off the charts, he is truly one outstanding runner of the football.
Agreed - it'd be similar to how OSU recruited Omaneh. Can't really say I blame Meyer - talent is talent and from a tactical standpoint every 5* guy they get is one less we don't get and vice versa. Truth be told, one of the main reasons I'd like to flip Dunn to the good guys is because it'd be a (minor) setback for OSU.
I'm not optimistice we'll flip him to our side and wasn't even before Meyer started laying on the snake oil (tm), but this is mostly me - the last 7 years have made me inveterately pessimistic about M football.
Related question: if I'm Bri'onte Dunn and I see Fitzgerald Toussaint being our feature back for the next 2 years - Fitz' RS junior and senior seasons - how do I feel about possibly taking a redshirt next year to get stronger, learn the system and wait out Denard's senior season when he's our leading rusher?
A kid like Dunn doesn't want to redshirt. Skill position players generally think they can play right away. And without a viable backup running back to Toussaint (Shaw is gone, Smith is a role player), then there's no reason for him to think that he can't beat out the other backups and earn a few carries a game.
