I love good signs for Michigan!
Bri'onte Dunn in home visit
He can't commit just yet cause of his OSU visit... but i like our chances
He can decommit though.
If he were to go throught with it like that, it shows lots of character and fortitude. Making a decommitment face to face would be nerve-wrecking. Call me a wuss, but I would rather do that over the phone.
Bring it on home Brady......
2nd prize is a set of steak knives
3rd prize, you're fired
Is this a reference to something like a movie? I really don't get it.
Search, "Alec Baldwin, Glengary Glen ross" then proceed to watch one of the greatest scenes in the history of film.
Or just watch the whole movie, because it's awesome, and has an amazing cast.
between these 2 movies. Boiler room is good for a few laughs and surface-level insight.
If you've ever sold anything anything under pressure, GGGR will put you right back into the meat grinder and begin to crank. It's only the dark side of selling, sure, but it's also a glorious psychological mindfuck and stays with you for days. It's an all-timer
It's either from Glenn Gary, or Glenn Ross. Can't remember which.
If you don't know that and you're a salesman, look it up pronto.
This is the quote that applies directly to this situation.
I thought previously someone posted that the big man himself was going to make the trip down. Was that not the case?
Coach Hoke was not there, Bri'onte is still expecting his visit at some point. But, to this point, he "wasn't sure" about the date of Hoke's visit, or his official visit to Michigan.
This is some smart planning by Hoke. He knows that Bri'onte is going to be visiting OSU this weekend, where Urban Meyer well flash his shiny NC rings and try to woo Dunn. A HC is only entiteld to 1 in house meeting with a recruit. By holding his, he can do it after OSU visit, making Hoke the last voice high-level voice that Dunn will hear.
Are Meyer's rings shinier than Hoke's?
I don't think so. Now if you said Les Miles...
Pretty classy (/s) but I still like the M.
The '97 ring is somewhat tastefully done. Those recent ones are unwearable by anyone not named Liberace.
For the Pimp hand only.
Josten's has stepped it up
But isn't it a bad sign that he is visiting Ohio this weekend? There are just too many signs!
I think the OSU visit means that he's giving OSU one last chance with Urban Meyer. I think his family being present for the in-home is because his family needed convincing that Michigan is the best place for him. I think it will be much easier for him to make any decision if his family is 100% behind him so that he doesn't feel like he betrayed them.
exactly my thoughts, too. I feel this is more about the family than it is about Dunn. And that, to me, is a very very good sign.
is a great observation. If you start to think about what has to happen in order to change your commitment from a school you, your family and friends grew up following to the arch rival school this family meeting is one of the first steps. You have to make sure they all know why you're making this decision and you need to enlist their help and support for the shit storm that is sure to follow. You could tell them yourself but it's much more effective coming from the source. You're not going to have the family involved in a meeting like that if you're still undecided. It would make no sense and cause unecessary confusion for your loved ones. I think this bodes well for UM.
Great sign for Michigan. It also sounds like Al Borges went as well so clearly the Michigan coaches think they have a fair chance at getting him. The only person who knows more than what has already been said here says he expects Dunn to go to Ohio this weekend, Michigan next, and make his decision shortly after that. He says the interesting part of that is that he could basically decommit, leave Ohio and all the fans whom will hate him, and that from what he has heard his father is completely on Michigans side especially with the hiring of Meyer. So we will see but the whole family showing up is great news.
Why are there so many paywall sites for recruiting info? Scout, Rivals, 247, ESPN ... can the market really support 4 different sites? You'd think that one site would rise to the top and become the market leader.
Further, it's not good for the athletes -- instead of giving information to one paysite guy (who obviously would be TomVH), now they have to text/answer phone calls/inform at least four different guys.
If I were scout,ESPN, or 247sports I would just shut the business down and give it to rivals cuz they're the best.
MgBlog/Rivals>scout>the rest>............................espn (they don't know jack)
There seems to be a market for this information, why can't one sight go the free route and destroy the others? Perhaps the market isn't big enough to be supported by ad-only revinue? Has it been tried?
Why pay sites at all?
Money can be exchanged for goods and services.
You must be an Econ major, that was deep!
reference from mid-90s. Homer is looking for a peanut, finds a $20 and is sad because it isn't a peanut, until his brain explains that money can be exchanged for goods and services.
This explains why I don't have rivals access despite sending them 3 sacks of potatoes.
They only accept chickens.
Craig James paid for his membership with 5 dead hookers he acquired while at SMU.
Comments like this make me wish there was a "like" one.
It's called MGoBlog. The recruiting info available here trumps all other sites.
Well, it used to, but TomVH is tough to replace. Ace has been doing an admirable job, but the information hasn't flowed like it used to.
Ace is coming on like gangbusters though. His last post was excellent and there has been a general upward trend.
TomVH's void and I think he's done a fantastic job! Give him a liitle more time ... and he'll get promoted to a full position at some recruiting enterprise ... just like Tom.
Give him time to develop his beat.
The organic growth of this site over the years (7-ish?) has been interesting to watch.
This is TomVH's world, we're all just living in it.
Miss you, bro.
I have a feeling that Scout, Rivals, or 24/7 will disappear within the next couple years. Perhaps ESPN will gobble one or two of them up. I don't see ESPN going anywhere because of the cash they have, but I don't think the market will allow all four major sites to remain viable.
If I had to bet, I'd say that 247 is bought by ESPN and Scout goes under. Scout's web presence is just brutal - sites have awful design, are chocked full of ads, and very disoranized seeming. 247 seems to be more tech-saavy and I'm sure ESPN would prefer not to have to do all the reformatting work. That being said, it seems that Scout has better and more connected personnel than 247, and, at the end of the day, connections with coaches/recruits is the name of the game in the recruiting industry biz.
they just need to hire their recruiting gurus. then the lesser recruiting site will fold up. The success of the site is completely dependend on the recruiting ninja.
To be honest, I subscribed to ESPN insider just for TomVH. Nothing against Ace, he is doing well, especially with 2013 kids, but Tom has great relationships with the 2012 kids. Which is the fix I need right now.
If one were to subscribe to one of the 4 scouting services which one would be best to have?
Maybe he's visting Ohio to let them know he's going to Michigan? I can hope.
Can you imagine going on an official and decommitting while there? That would be the ultimate F U. Not a chance that will happen. As awesome for UM as that would.
I know but damn that would be legendary.
Dunn goes to Columbus pimped out is M gear, decommits to Urb and calls Coach Hoke while in Urb's office. Then, somone sneeks a camera phone in and catches the whole thing on video.
Then, Dunn rushes for 6000 yards in his career at M, 800 of which come against OSU. In The Game of his senior year he scores a touchdown late in the game and taunts the OSU bench - gets flag thrown and touhdown erased. Urb gets fired after 4 years of misery, amassing a 32-19 record over four years.
Ok, back to reality.
Where are the Victoria's Secret models in this dream?
They're our new cheerleaders.
And they look fantastic.
If he quietly decommits in Urban Meyer's office at the end of his visit, as I imagine he would, there shouldn't be an immediate fan reaction. Dunn never commited to play football for Urban Meyer and they've had a relationship for less than two weeks. He'll have to deal with the fans eventually no matter when he decommits. Face to face this weekend is as good a time as ever.
Today, on As Brionte's World Turns....
My opinion, is that he told a lot of players on his visit to the Ohio game, that he was going to commit to Michigan. Because a lot of the players came out afterwards and told fans to lay off Bri'onte on twitter, and give him some space. Which leads me to believe they didn't want anything changing his mind. Also, all the recruits have been strangely quiet now on the Bri'onte topic. Which typical teenager psychology would say, when a teenager is avoiding a topic, they absolutely know something, or are hiding something. Dymonte being quiet about it, gives me reason to believe that Bri'onte has in fact told him he's going to commit to Michigan.
As in the university of california? Am I missing something here?
that was a Dig on what Diggs did. Only a guess though.
When the coaches went to visit Stefon Diggs, he wasn't around because he had taken a visit to Cal.
That's deep. Let's hope there is something to it.
I think it's big if he comes up here for an official AFTER his visit to TSIO before making his final decision. It's always better to be the last one to make the final pitch, because that will usually be freshest in his mind. If Dunn is pretty positive about coming here, I think he and his family are playing this just right. By waiting until later in December and planning to enroll early, he can bail out of Ohio quickly to avoid all the shitstorm of crapola from all the deluded Ohio fans. Hope to see you up here in January Brionte!
Interesting scenario. Plausible. All that crapola if he chooses wrong would be a good reason to pick U-M, if they really are so eager to turn on him. Seems to me we've lost a lot of high profile in-state players in the last five to 10 years, players that it sure looked like we kinda really needed, but I don't recall any of them getting the shitstorm.
lets hope his official visit to OSU and meyer this weekend doesnt sway his mind! go blue!
forgot to look at your text /s
Great rack in your avatar.
great mgopoints number
Really, we'll know what's going to happen after the Ohio visit. If if decides to visit UM, then it's really great for us. If he does not visit, then he is going to Ohio.
But really really, we won't know until he enrolls somewhere. Luckily, that's only about 3 weeks away and we have two holidays between now and then to pass the time.
Dymonte probably seconded everything that Fred Jackson and Al Borges said.
I will continue to maintain the stance that Brionte is OSU bound.
I also hope that I will be proven wrong in my assertion.
I'd have to say, missing out on Dunn, would almost certainly make us the leading candidate for Ty Isaac's services.
Don't go crazy on Isaac yet, He grew up an ND fan from an ariticle I read and It could be another long drawn out battle. could be Dee Hart 3.0, or Dunn 2.0 depending on how you want to look at it. We need a big time back!
sounds like Meyer is making another in home with him next week according to wilfong twitter. UMMM hasn't he already had his in home last week or was that another ohio coach? This battle is getting good. With shane and dymonte being so happy on twitter last night I feel like the Mo swung back to us but he back in cbus this weekend and meyer is going to see him next week. When is brady going to point at him fergodsakes?
I think this is all part of Hoke's plan to let Meyer waste as much time on Dunn as possible before Hoke comes in and points.
Eh, he'll do it anyway, then self-report the secondary violation to the NCAA, who will say "no-biggie" because it's a minor violation and Meyer's first at Ohio. I seriously think this will happen.
My buddy is a big time gator fan and I wanna send him that!!!

does that sign mean....im sorry its hilarious but would love to know the context
I was watching this live when it happened. I had the Carl Lewis reaction. I thought it was great.
Makes sense for Hoke to back out right now since he is visiting Ohio this weekend, let Urban have his piece and then HOKEAMAINA comes in an closes the deal.
Not sure where he'll go, but I love this. I like how he has his whole family in on the decision, even his cousin who also going to wearing the winged helmet. I think this is a smart decision and shows a strong family. Good for the extended Dunn clan! I see success in this kid's future.
That's why I think Michigan will have Dunn here shortly. Hoke makes football fun and is a hands-on guy. He creates a family atmosphere at Michigan. Meyer is too business like, wrong system, NCAA sanctions, etc. Dunn would be loved by all in Michigan Stadium. 114,000 members of his family show up every week.
This kid HAS to be under a tremendous amount of pressure right now. Especially now that Urban is the head coach and it looks like the NCAA will not bring the hammer. Everyone around him must be hounding him to go to OSU...
I think it will be a miracle if he makes it out of Columbus without committing there....I can just see Urban putting a pen in his hand and "helping" him sign his name like I do with my 3 year old.
I actually feel bad for the kid.
What makes you think the ncaa hammer will not drop?
Brionte Dunn is heavily leaning towards Michigan. He is ours to lose right now. Meyer is going to try to convice Dunn he can fit in a spread offense and Dunn does not see it. We need to stay positive on our posts because he wants to come here and we really could use him in our backfield.
Want him to feel welcome here.
And where did you get this info?
Thanks for the advice but I haven't read one negative comment yet. Why would anyone say anything negative about a kid who hasn't made a decision yet?
are an ugly business on message boards. You'd be surprised. There was a thread a few days ago saying Meyer had made up ground with Brionte and there was definitely a fair amount of negativity.
Frankly, seems weird to try to pass judgment on an 18 year old kid trying to decide where to go to college.
No matter where he ends up, I think we should all have no hard feelings. He'll be doing what he thinks is best for him and his family; can't blame a kid for that.
Hoke goes to Ohio to sell jerseys, not make recruiting visits.
Say Michigan does get Dunn. Al Borges is pretty consistant on using one featured back. so the question is.. does Michigan redshirt Dunn and Fitz starts or do they share time or does Dunn take over the starting spot? it is a little far to look down the road but its worth considering.
But Dunn would get some carries as a freshman, he would play right away. Need three good running backs in the Big Ten.
I'd say Michigan chances go up another notch. Has he re schelude his offcial to Michigan!
He still is "committed" to Ohio, has been for a while
Should have stated,If he dosen't state *publicly* his commintment to tosu.
He doesnt have to commit this weekend, he is already committed there.
because the coaches seem to want him badly. Personally, I'm more concerned with keeping his cousin. Now that kid is a BEAST!! Even if we did get Brionte, IMO the only way he can supplant Fitz is due to injury. If Fitz stays healthy and if he can improve even a little for the next two years, I think he can become an early round draft pick in the NFL. We havn't said that about a Michigan back in 8 years.
I love how people with absolutely zero reliable information -- in other words, 99.9 percent of the posters here -- routinely report which way the wind is blowing with Dunn. The kid talks to Meyer, he's a lost cause; he talks to Hoke, he's ours.
Unless you know something, you don't know anything.
I find it interesting that Michigan does not consider someone committed if he takes a visit to another school.
Meanwhile Ohio still considers Dunn a commit (albeit soft) after visiting its arch rival Michigan on two straight weekends, including The Game. He was literally on our side with our recruits for the game versus Ohio, the school he is supposedly committed to.
In the end, maybe this aids Ohio and he stays. I've go to wonder though how this sits with the current Ohio players and staff.
Michigan clearly would not allow this and its got to speak volumes.
I think Hoke has it right, even if it means we lose out on some top talent.
Those who stay will be champions
I was listening to WTKA online just now, and a middle-aged female caller with what sounded like an Eastern European or Italian accent (might have been the first ever to call into a sports radio program) pointed out that Brionte Dunn's mother cooked baked ziti from scratch for the coaches' visit. She said that because the preparation process for baked ziti is very involved and lengthy, this should be interpreted as a good sign for us.
I was very amused and fascinated by this call.
This may sound bad, but I change the channel when she calls because its tough to listen to her. The same goes with Brian from Pinckney, I find it weird he calls everyday at the same time.
I don't often listen to WTKA (I don't live in Michigan), so I wasn't aware that she's a regular caller. Still though, it's kind of cool that she hails from a segment that is extremely unlikely to follow college football so closely, let alone call in to a sports talk radio show.
That is none other than "Linda from Grand Blanc", she is a trip and has been calling AA and Detroit radio for years. She loved Isaiah Thomas and Steve Yzerman back in the day. I think we have a "Linda from Grand Blanc" member on MGO, but I doubt the authenticity
EDIT: yes we do have a linda-grand-blanc user. Good Stuff
Does he sound perpetually drunk?
I have to wonder how many stars Grandma Dunn has.
That Dunn reconfirmed his commitment to Ohio.
Too bad, but it seems that his heart has been with Ohio for some time. If he did not commit to UM after visiting during both the Nebraska and Ohio games, then what would it take for his commitment?
Where was this?
I was thinking the same thing, I never heard that. I do think that when all is said and done, Dunn will go Blue.
Hasn't shown up on twitter yet and you posted this 35 minutes ago.
Sam Webb is usually quick with these things.
This is going back and forth.
Trust me this one is a long way from over. And he is set on Michigan right now. He does not want to play in the spread offense. And this is very reliable information mackbru. He will go to Michigan.
...buckle up (in two weeks)?
You know Dunn is BLUE....... Freddy J has his sights set on him so its over!!
Freddy J is like the Brady Hoke of recruiting, except faster and with less hyperbole.
Dunn doesn't want to deal with the backlash. He may announce as he enrolls. Can't blame the kid. They are going to hound the hell out of him until he actually leaves Ohio.
