Brightest College Future - Jake Ryan or Scott McVey?

Submitted by JCM26 on

Jake Ryan and Scott McVey played side by side at Cleveland's St. Ignatious H.S. as LBs - Jake usually played outside while Scott usually played inside.  As you are aware Jake is a Wolverine and Scott is a Buckeye.  There has been quite a bit of discussion as to which player was actually better in H.S.   I think Scott missed a number of games to injury as a senior while Jake had a fairly decent senior season.  We all know Jake is begining to shine here at Michigan along with our defense in general, but I'm not sure how Scott is fitting in at OSU (I've only seen bits and peices of their games).  Question is who do you think may have the better career in college?

The other one is not listed in the two deep so he is not doing anything right now (yes, there could be so much more talent ahead of him at the LB position). I'll take the guy that is being productive right now.

One thing to consider is whether recruiting rankings are truly reliable indicators of a player's potential.

Look at Wisconsin and Iowa; they do very well developing lower-ranked recruits.

I realize that talent is a good thing to have, but just look at what Mattison has done with a Michigan defense that looked spectacularly untalented these last few years. Coaching and teaching make a big difference.

Ryan has a brighter future. Because he's at Michigan! His team needs him more, and his degree will be worth more.

Jake Ryan is excelling in the Michigan system. Part of the credit must go to coaches that are eager to develop his talent.

i go to school with a kid who played with both of them and he said Mcvey tore his labrum for a third time and is probably going to end up getting sent to St Saban soon. he also said that jake ryan didn't even start his junior and ended up getting huge before his senior year.

but Jake Ryan is doing incredible for being just a redshirt freshman. Sure, he's sort of a Jonas Mounton at this point but under 3 more years of coaching from Mattison and Co., I think he has the potential to be all big-ten or maybe even all-american

He's got an awesome motor, nose for the football and a name for the ages.

He's a difference maker, pretty soon teams are gonna have to put in a package just for him.

If I had Jake Ryan's hair, my college career would have been epic.  He still has 3.9 years to rake in the ladies.

Some dude who just has the same last name as the OKC bomber cannot compete with that level of awesomeness.
