Is it just me or did Brian Kelly have some of the funniest facial expressions yesterday. Watching him react to certain plays, especially some of his QB's decisions, made me literally laugh out loud.
I wonder what his facial expression was like this morning when he woke up and said to his wife "Dammit, that 'running back' threw for 244 yards and a TD in addition to the 258 yards he rushed for".
This would be even better if it was Charlie Weis we were picking on.
He did channel Captain Front Butt when he went for the touchdown right before the half ended. Idiotic call, in my opinion.
idiot if they didn't convert, genius if they did
At the time, he didn't know if Crist was coming back. If Crist doesn't come back, you can't afford to give up a golden opportunity for a touchdown. As such, I think it was the right call.
I think going for the TD was the right call given the situation at the time. Sure, in hindsight it looks dumb, but there was no way for him to know that our offence would be so impotent for most of the second half and fail to score more points. Now, if you want to argue the play called, I think you might have some legitimate beef - I would go try to run it in from there rather than relying on your shaky walkon freshman 3rd string backup of a QB.
It was the wrong call for the simple fact that the odds were against them scoring a TD. At the 3-yard line, it was the equivalent of a point after. Kicking a PAT is a near-certainty while 2-point conversions are successful 40-45% of the time. That's the national average. With Nate Montana in at QB, their odds were most likely worse than that.
That Crist's status was uncertain shouldn't have mattered. Three points is better than zero points. Had they attempted a FG, the most likely outcome was three points. Had they gone for a TD, the most likely outcome was zero points.
7 points is 233% of 3 points. If they have a 40% - 45% chance of getting 233% of the points, that's an expected return of 0.93x to 1.05x. A wash in terms of expected points.
The goal is not to get any points. The goal is to get more points than the opponent over 60 minutes. And when you're down by a significant margin, you often need to go for more points even when the expected return is less than a more conservative approach.
hahahaha +1. I think this is one of my favorite posts ever
I didnt notice, when he was at cincy because he wasn't on tv enough. But at ND he will be on the NBC slurpfest. I want to start seeing his face when it is cold… Because the cold already makes you make a face.
an avatar gif to steal from someone of his expression at the end of the half by now.
I was trying to read his lips when he was talking to Montana as they were going to the tunnel for the half. All I really got was the end when he just sighed, "All right, go in" or something like that. The exasperation was obvious. Too bad Montana didn't ask him why he just didn't take the three.
I was hoping this post would be a montage of images of Brian Kelly's face during yesterday's game. OP is right, they were hilarious, and if I knew anything about html & embedding, I would set about making just that montage...
was after J.T.Floyd's pick. Montana ran to the sidelines and you could clearly see Kelly say "Now what did I tell you?" like he was a little kid who had just burned his hand on a hot stove.
lol.. what part of the game did this happen? I recorded it and kept rewinding when he would make a stupid face. He had some classic poses that game.
I made a point of flipping off the TV everytime he came on. I don't know why either..... just felt right!
The way Brian Kelly treats his players really bothers me. Sure RR has been known to get in a players face, but I have never seen as many F-bombs used on such young quarterbacks in my life. With such young QB's it's imperative to teach these kids and not belittle these kids with constant cussing and anger. I realize it's a heat of the moment thing, but it's not the right thing to do, ever.
Ask Billy Stewart how that nice coach thing is going for him since that big meanie RichRod left.
it was entertaining watching kelly curse out his backup qb yesterday. i wonder if the nd blogs will have comments re: "lack of family values" and "not doing it the nd way". he's on a much bigger stage now and everything he does will be magnified.
Any videos of these so called facial expressions?!
This thread is very disappointing without pictures.
