Brian Cook: Trapped in a chair, but unable to write?
Sorry to hear that your expectations haven't been met.
You're right, we all deserve so much better than this. I'm canceling my subscription this instant!
come on, people, this is funny.
Don't forget, this is HTTV crunch time here as well. If you only knew how little I've slept this week. Ace has been working like nuts as well. Mathlete contributed an extra. I've got one more thing in the hopper that I have to edit. I mean c'mon; our Denard Robinson is banged up and we're doing our best.
Okay, so I do realize you were just being like "c'mon, RELEASE THE COOKCRACKEN! because stoned Brian writes better than 99.999% of people and is funnier than 99.9% of Brians. I'm just venting.
I think that he's been tied down by his progressive metal band.
Yes, he Is the man behind my favorite sports blog and plays bass for one of my favorite bands. What DON'T you do, Mr. Cook?
Or 'bi', I guess. Which is cool, of course. Better chances at being picked up at the bar, that's for sure...
What is there to write about in the offeason? We've got 100 or so days till Fall Practice opens up, I'm sure we'll get quite a lot of content before then
You must be new here. The off-season is by far the best time to be around MGoBlog.
I downloaded Final Fantasy 7 about a week ago on the PS3. I bought the remastered God of War 1 and God of War 2 collections from a pawn shop last night. What should I play. I can't make up my mind. I've seriously been sitting here for about 20 minutes trying to decide. HELP
And the only good spartan, is a fictional spartan. Play some God of War!
Do what you want with your nintendos, just stay off of my lawn!
I would go with Final Fantasy 7. That game is a classic in my e-pinion.
I've put a few hours into FF7 since downloading it, and its just as good as it was when I was 16. The problem is the game pace. Even with all the settings turned up, it just moves a little bit too slow.
I recomend Trials Evolution out today on XBL.
You want to write something good for us don't you Brian? Right? Right?
Excellent Misery reference
Excellent reply placement ;)
I'm really sorry you are not getting your money's worth.
Follow recruiting anymore. Wait, what are we talking about?
not sure if thread is serious or sarcastic. So, not sure if my neg is serious or sarcastic.
The most spectacular post may be the one that keeps the reader guessing as to whether the OP is serious or not . . .
so meta it hurts
He just had major surgery. Sure, we see athletes tear their ACLs all the time. Our thoughts are "6-12 months, good as new, hope he can trust his knee." and we file them away. Seeing my dad go through an ACL repair... the injured can't just file it away. Getting out of bed in the morning can be a struggle. Showering. Sitting on the toilet - don't want to mess up those stitches in your knee. I don't know where Brian lives but if there are stairs? Those are going to suck every time he has to walk up and down them. Depending on which leg maybe he can't drive. Maybe his brain's still fried from drugs. You know what? Maybe he is working on the server/webiste upgrades, or the magazine, or some of the free content that you pine for. Let the man recover. Or you could just ask for a bicycle.
"Wedding Crashers Balloon Bicycle"
Was the top hit. I was just going to post this:
Good observation. I destroyed my ankle two years ago (roughly the same injury Troy Woolfolk had) and after surgery I spent a month basically living 24 hours a day on my living room couch. I had expected to have more time to think and do intellectually engaging stuff, but the lack of movement and exercise depressed pretty much everything I would try to do. I was a zombie. Wouldn't surprise me if Brian has a harder-than-normal time just deciding what to write.
Everyone knows bloggers live in the basement.
It is a dark time, as my two greatest nemeses join forces...
I'm also going to jack the thread. Does anyone have any suggestions for pre-work out supplements? I just bought some MusclePharm Assault because it had good reviews online. Does anyone have input?
Not necessarily. More into a balance of mass and tone. I really just want something that gets the most out of my work-out.
EDIT: OK, now that you changed your post, my response makes no sense.
Yeah, I guess the question I was asking was specifically about NO supplements. I'll look into the Nitrix, thanks.
Check out Akea (pronounced just like Ikea, but with an A). It's obviously not specifically intended for workouts, but it is a natural way to increase your energy levels. My dad's been using it lately and he's had a noticeably higher energy level during his workouts. I haven't used it myself yet, but that's just because I don't have room in my budget for it right now.
If you're interested, I can put you in touch with a distributor.
MGoDrugDeals will not be tolerated.
I take Jack3D before my workouts. Worked up to 2 scoops. My baseball coach buddy recommended it. It does get you "up" for your workout, but it seems to fade somewhat quickly. I take two scoops and wait until I feel like I am sunburned then I get after it. DO NOT take before doing cardio unless you like the feeling of heart explosions.
I've read good things about that as well - it was recommended on a handful of the same sites that led me toward muscle pharm.
How quickly would you say it fades? My weight routines usually only last around 45 minutes (which is why I like to take something because I don't have time to rest at all in between sets).
I take it as well. I take 2 scoops and I am good up to 90 mins easy. I highly recommend it as well.
See I find it fades in around 30 minutes. It comes on in about 30 minutes then it stays on for about 30 then it's gone. Weird. I usually go for around an hour. Then take some protein right after I'm done. The one thing to remember is you can't take the stuff into perpetuity. Buy a tub, use it until it's gone then go off it for as long as you were on it. Then get another tub. That's what I do.
I have been taking no xplode off and on for about 5 years and I feel it works best. I've tried jacked, no shotgun, nano vapor, and numerous others and still believe in no xplode.
If you're going to burn any calories, chocolate milk. Seriously. Milk is like $2-3 a gallon. Whey (which is found in... milk) is like $16/lb or something ridiculous.
Yeah, that's a post-workout thing, and although I agree that milk is a good way to get protein, a glass of milk has about 10g of protein, and a couple scoops of whey (which is the typical serving) has 40-50g. Since I'm not going to pound 5 glasses of chocolate milk after my workout every day, the whey is a lot better option.
For reference, the protein I take is about 30 bucks for a 2.9lb tub, and that gets me around 30 servings. At that point, you pay about the same as the 4+ glasses of milk you'd have to drink, you get fewer calories, and a lot of other essential and non-essential amino acids that milk just doesn't have.
I drink a lot of milk, but milk alone doesn't do as much as a good protein supplement does.
Pre-workout meal was always loaded in carbs. Post-workout meal is the one that matters most. High in protein for sure.
Yeah, not looking for a meal because I work out at 530 in the morning. More of an energy/focus supplement.
And yeah, I take lots of protein after, and I agree that matters much more.
Jack3d for pre workout or a cup of coffee. 1MR is a good choice as well.
Actually, I just read that the pre-workout meal is the most important, since you're body usually is still digesting the meal during the workout. In essence, the pre-workout meal becomes the post-workout nutrition.
Works pretty good. You have to take a ton of it though. I think you have to take it with like 24oz of water. What flavor did u buy?. It's gonna make you poop more too.
I got raspberry lemonade. I've heard that you need to take a lot too, that the recommended serving size is half or less of what you really need to take. That might be the problem with it.
I drink a ton of water during my workout, so that's OK. I'm cool with pooping too.
Honestly, everything I know about getting up for a workout (mine are more running-based ~ 6 miles or so in the morning) involves eating some low-grade protein beforehand, like peanut-butter/nuts or some beans. I've taken a couple handfuls of almonds before a run and that helps. In terms of lifting, the only supplement I've tried is "pure" whey (i.e. no NO or anything else), and that helped me recover a bit afterwards. Of course, I'm not really going for mass/bulk - my bench tapped out around 200 lbs for 150lb guy, and that's cool enough for me - but I did notice a quicker recovery than just the usual gatorade/water.
There's a plant in there too
It took me a full 60 seconds to see that clearly. Worst part: I've seen it before!
It would be hard to create a follow up for this. Give him time man. Patience is a virtue.
Brian didn't make that. Chunkums did.
Brian, I will excuse...but I'm just dissapointed we haven't had another 10 recruit weekend.
Mods delete, failed reply
Sealed for posterity.
The man's gotta rest up. He's going to go swimming in coins Scrooge McDuck style when the Kickstarter money comes in, right?
Brian's probably just all hopped up on painkillers and meditating on the many utilizations of bubble screens.
Back in college, I was hopped up on painkillers after a surgery and apparently "drunk dialed" several lady friends of mine at the time. Two of those converations ended very badly but one turned out to be very, very fruitful. This is what I was looking for from Brian - two posts that would cause extreme backlash and one that would be such a gem that it would get picked up by the AP.
Blame the painkillers.
From three weeks ago:
Sitebulletins. We are two weeks away from the Spring Game and the it's hard offseason after. We'll be ramping up the usual stuff—profiles of the incoming freshmen, ranting about offsides in hockey, recaps of our insane predictions—and yes, now is the time when a Sugar Bowl UFR gets done. All timely like.
There are a couple of complicating factors, most prominent: knee surgery. I'm having it. Unfortunately they've moved the date from April 17th—blissfully amidst nothing at all—to April 10th. That's four days before the Spring Game. Glarble. I'll do my best to give you the usual breakdown, but I'm not sure how with-it I'll be. I'm supposed to be able to walk in two weeks, so hopefully I'll be coherent after four days.
The other project, one that I wanted to get started on earlier, is whacking the server in the right spot so it's a bunch faster. This should be doable, but it is going to take some time. Between that and the surgery don't be surprised if my posting frequency drops a bit. I'll get at least one thing up a day; the rest of the time is going to be spent on laying a groundwork for keeping things upright when next season rolls around. Death to the 503.
who just has to show up with facts and stuff and interrupt a perfectly good thread!
Edit: Schembo beat me to it, sorry for looking like a copy cat and not reading the whole thread first before posting.
See this thread is Fucking awesome
FF7 was the beginning of the end for the once proud series. Do yourself a favor and get your hands on FF6.
I prefer to get my hands on a job and a woman, and not necessarily at the same time.
And prefer something else completely. That usually combines them at the same time.
Because clearly they are mutually exclusive...
FF6 is one of the best ever...not just the best of the FF series
Whatever the administration charge spent on bandwidth for this thread, plus all the minutes spent by MGoBloggers who have viewed this thread while at work X $50/hour should be tallied up and charged back to aamichfan.
It may be a slow day for Michigan sports but it's never slow enough to have a thread like this. by the way, isn't this OT?
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!!!!!!
I DEMAND MORE FOR THE $0.00 I PAY FOR THE INFORMATION PRESENTED HERE
You know something Brain, I'm retracting my bevelled guilt donation. That's right, I'm guilt-tripping YOU now!
I will leave your planet for no raisin!
I think Brian expected to be feeling a buzz a lot of the time.
WE NEED MORE DRUGGED POSTING FROM BRIAN.
some of those lines from the spring recap were beyond brilliant.
There's another drug thread for that!
The knee surgery is just a cover for the truth: Brian forgot to take out the trash two weeks in a row so Mom disconnected the cable internet for a month.
I like that post. Metaphorical Posbang
To the Wizards for Nick Young. #briancookjokes #wontevertrend
Brian finally stopped drinking coffee?
It would be better if Brian was trapped in the closet.
It's the offseason. I'm already in hibernation mode. It's a little hard to move my fingers but they have a special touchscreen keyboard built into the wall of my cryogenic tank.
Brian Cook has gone on a vision quest.
