Breaking News to MGoBoard- We WON the game!

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

You can, you know, like, enjoy it.  For at least one evening.  I mean, even the staff and players get the night to enjoy it, and when they start worrying, their worries will ACTUALLY AFFECT THE TEAM. Yours do not, so are doubly silly.  Don't have a completely miserable life, and maybe, just maybe...have some fun with beating a big rival at their place, for the 4th time in 5 tries. And being 2-0.  Because if you continue to worry about Cam Gordon, Tackling, Running Backs, Personal Fouls, Defensive Fronts, and, horror, WINNING while playing bad, you'll be unhappy when we win....and unhappy when we lose.  Which will pretty much leave you unhappy.  Isn't it glorious to have to worry about not playing perfectly, and still winning?  If it's all fool's gold, shouldn't you maybe enjoy it while you can, and be miserable if we go 1-7 like last year (since we have so many problems, it's inevitable, I guess)? How about you take your mind out of suicide watch, have some fun tonight, hug a woman, and spend the next 3 weeks worrying about fixing things.  Because that's how long we have before all these problems could bite us.  So we have a good bit of time to worry about them.  And fix them.

But did you see Cam Gordon? As a redshirt freshman playing in his 2nd game ever at a position he switched to last year he let up 2 big plays to the best wr/te duo in the nation. Doesn't that worry you? In other news, I can't wait to truck the B10 this year. Once this train has started, it will be impossible to stop!

Yeah, there were a few glaring errors, but this game actually makes me even more optimistic for the season.  Everyone knew that there were going to be some secondary issues (understated slightly), between youth and AMSHG attrition, but I was really happy with the defense today.

The concern pre-season was about our offense needing to outscore teams for us to win.  Yesterday, when our offense stalled, the defense kept us in that game.  Yeah, they gave up yards and they gave up a couple bombs, but who thought that our offense could hurt themselves with penalties, go 3 for 16 on third down conversions, and special teams would miss two field goals, and our defense would still find a way to keep us in the game?  3 picks, a sack, only 4 for 14 on 3rd down for Notre Dame.  They manned up.

As we move on, we know the offense will roll, but it's extremely exciting to see they won't alway have to

It was just such sweet sweet nectar to be in that stadium to watch Irish heartbreak for the second year in a row.

The entire second half of that game there was a very boisterous ND fan who, after every play (and I'm not exaggerating) would reach across the aisle (we were sitting across the aisle from each other) and high five his buddy sitting behind my dad.  Every time he tried to make eye contact with me, every time he nearly hit my father in the face.  At the end of the game, after all that energy expelled celebrating things like DRob running for 6 yards (why would you celebrate that?) his poor head was draped between his legs and I heard sobbing.

There was no reason to say anything to guy, so the family and I just keep celebrating with each other.  It was a nice end to that game.

Michaelangelo puts down the brush after the last stroke is done on the glorious ceiling depiction of Biblical events as Pope Julius arrives to inspect the commission.

Michaelangelo: "Welcome, your Holiness. I'm honored to tell you that my work is finally done, and I am very pleased with the results."

Pope Julius: "Yeah, but what about that small angel up in the northwest corner? I don't think she has the right expression on her face. Aren't you concerned that it ruins the overall effect?"
