Breaking News: Dee Hart Drops Auburn

Submitted by MGoShoe on

According to Chris Hays at the Orlando Sentinel:

And then there were two. Apologies for the cliche, but Dr. Phillips star Dee Hart has cut his list of prospective colleges to two, saying Saturday at the ESPN RISE Champion Gridiron Kings event in Orlando that he has dropped Auburn and now it's between Michigan and Alabama. Hart cited Auburn's interest in a pair of other running backs for his reasoning.

He said he hopes to make his decision sometime in September or October.

Prediction: The UConn game will be the clinching event.  Win, and he commits.

as others, but wasn't it the conventional thinking that he was going to make a decision by the beginning of the season? If he's now saying that it could go into October, that would indicate that the UConn game is not going to be the deciding factor alone, but a good portion of Michigan's season will be. He's already visited more than once, his official will be at the UConn game, so it's not as though he won't have all the official UM info he needs to make a decision on the basis of the institution and its support system for players.

I wonder if he's hedging his bets on RR and is waiting to see how hot—or not—RR's seat is by mid-season. I'm not 100% convinced he truly wants to come to the University of Michigan as much as he wants to play for a winning program, wherever it is. Not that there's anything wrong with the latter, from his perspective. I don't think his decision is hinging on the NCAA stuff.

I've said this in another thread, but I'll say it here, too. He's not waiting into the middle of the season to announce. You'll know before then.

The NCAA stuff is behind them, as they've gotten to talk to the coaches and everyone involved with the sanctions. Those aren't an issue.

...is that he's just giving himself some leeway to see how the season is progressing.  An impressive win against UConn could seal the deal and cut this whole thing short.

IME, this season hinges on the offense becoming more machine-like.  One measure of success will be the frequency of offensive series that turn into Keystone Kops routines.

I am just happy he eliminated Auburn that is just one less school we will have to deal with during his recruitment. So since D Hart is coming to the UConn game do you all think that it's is one of those games we have to win in order to gain a commitment?

If he goes to Alabama, Saban will be the most hated guy on mgoblog. Much more then Drew Sharp....wait......

okay.....I won't go that far but you get the idea.

Hart cited Auburn's interest in a pair of other running backs for his reasoning.

I think this bodes well for us, since in RR's system, RBs get a ton of touches and there's a lot of opportunity for talented RBs even when there are other talented RBs on the team.

Dee just doesnt seem to be a good fit for Alabama's offense.  They are a more of a power running team.  Guys like Ingram, and Richardson are much different backs than Dee

Exactly...Hart is a much better fit for the spread offense style of running. Saban wants big physical backs who can run out of pro style formations. Not to say that Hart can't do that, but his skills would be best utilized in an offense like RR's.

Been following Dee Hart's recruitment for both teams (UM and UA) for a while now.

I think he ends up at Michigan. UM's been his frontrunner since his recruitment started and Alabama has their sights set on one or two other RB's so I think the odds of them getting Hart are not as good.

Hart's gonna be one great player for whoever he ends up with but I think he'll wear the maize and blue.
