Braylon heart M. no diss RR

"Last night during my pre-taped introduction, as a way of paying tribute to Coach Carr, I indentified myself as being from 'Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan,'" Edwards said. "I had no intention of showing any disrespect to Coach Rich Rodriguez. "I love the University of Michigan and will always be loyal to its coaching staff past, present and future." http://www.detnews.com/article/20100104/SPORTS0201/1040414/1361/Dave-Br…

There we have it. This can be put to rest. Let's hope for him to make acrobatic catches despite perfect double coverage from Dhani Jones and Leon Hall. Also 50+ yard field goals from Jay Feely.

Because if you are on a blog message board you obviously love Michigan more than someone who worked out for 40 hours a week for 4 years playing for them and then gave the program a million dollars.

Oh, I see how it is, a subtle dig at Coach Carr and him forcing his players to work out more than the allowed time. Too soon my friend, too soon... Or was it a quick jab at Rodriguez by how Carr's players would naturally choose to work out the extra hours because they choose to be the best, where as Rich forces them too? Or was it referencing exercise and not practice and has no meaning at all? I choose the option that makes me the angriest at the moment and you will soon see multiple threads about it...

I can picture Rodriguez sitting in Schembechler Hall thinking to himself: "Who the hell cares about what Braylon Edwards said during his player intro? I miss the pre-internet days when people with too much time on their hands didn't dissect every word ever spoken." And then in frustration, he tosses a dart at his Jay Hopson dartboard.

1. It's got to be good enough, because; 2. It's all that Braylon, Inc., is going to deliver. 3. It is a virtually uninformative statement, as far as, "WTF, Braylon? What the hell DID you mean, if you weren't taking a shot at Rich Rodriguez?" 4. It will be interesting to see how the "I didn't mean it" story now gets covered, and; 5. We pretty much know what Rich Rodriguez will say. Nothing. Putting Rich Rodriguez in better company with Schembechler, Yost, Crisler and, oh yes, Lloyd Carr, than Braylon Edwards can ever hope.

I think we should have a contest; explain in detail Braylon's "tribute to Coach Carr" explanation in 25 words or less (that rules me out right there). The winning entry will be e-mailed to the Free Press' Mark Snyder, Scott Bell and Nick Meyer, so that they can now figure out how they got punked on their national story, "Former Michigan football players Braylon Edwards and Dhani Jones are down on Rich Rodriguez." (Apparently revised from, "Braylon Edwards takes shot at Rich Rodriguez.")That will make for an interesting press conference. Really, people, the Freep writes enough malicious garbage without Braylon Edwards loading them up with more ammo. Does anybody suppose that Lloyd Carr sent Braylon a text; "No more 'tributes' to me, okay?"

how BE's follow-up comments might be presented in Freep's anti-RR bizzarro world. I don't care to find out directly, of course. I wonder if detnews.com has had a bump since 8-29-09 from Mgoblog users boycotting the Freep. In other (old) DetNews headlines, Devin Gardner's all-star team defeats William Gholston's 32-7.

Bando's a thoughtful defender of the faith for the Free Press. So I'll be interested to hear what he says about this -- Did the Free Press take liberties with what Braylon said and does Braylon have a good claim that the Free Press butchered the reporting with its presumption that Braylon "took a shot" at Rodriguez? Or, was the Free Press correct in its reporting, and it is Braylon's story (the "tribute to Lloyd Carr") that is incredible?

The freep article told me that he and Dhani both hate Rich Rod. Past articles have led me to believe they have done their research, such as talking to them, before posting such an article. Guys? Guuuuys??

it seems the only explicit anti-RR twist per BE's comments was the alleged Freep headline and the mindless repetitions of it by lazy scandal-seeking fellow-travellers. Maybe BE's more recent comments will put the Freep on the hotseat to explain away their spin on his comments (and their reflexive RR-hatred), especially to all the papers that mindlessly repeated the Freep party line without understanding the local Detroit-area economics and self-promotion tactics that motivated it. BTW, nice avatar. Is that Peter Mair from the 1964-5 Rose Bowl team?

goddamn thing I say... I'd be in prison by now if there was. BE shouldn't have had to apologize, but I guess you've got to lance the boil once it gets ripe.

I'm sorry that Braylon Edwards must have taken your mother out for a nice seafood dinner and never called her again. That must have been tough to take. I know it might be impossible for you to see this from inside your tinfoil hat, but you're completely batshit insane about this issue. Nutbags such are yourself are the reason Braylon even felt the need to apologize for such an innocuous statement; now he actually DID issue an apology, but this is not remotely good enough. Apparently to you this is a crime for which there can never be redemption. Why don't you move on to more important subjects, or at least add a new angle. Do I sense a "Why hasn't Lloyd come forward with a condemnation of Braylon's pastist introductory agenda yet? His silence speaks volumes, and it's unacceptable" thread coming on?

because of me, but I doubt it. But what's the problem with him clarifying himself in any case? Isn't that a good thing, on balance, ? I've merely observed two things: 1. What Braylon said was stupid. (Apparently Braylon, and/or his handlers agree, insofar as they prepared and issued his clarification for him.) 2. Braylon's clarification -- that he was merely paying "tribute" to Lloyd Carr -- defies belief and understanding. You say, "now he [Braylon] actually DID issue an apology..." Tell me, what were the terms of Braylon's "apology"? I got the distinct impression that he didn't apologize at all. Braylon instead took the self-important route of saying essentially that everybody else just misunderstood him. If that's the case, I sure as hell wasn't leading the misunderstanding. That part was done overnight on Sunday by the whole national press, following the Free Press's lead. (And just look at all of the replies from your fellow MGoBlog members who conceded that indeed the way to interpret Braylon's comment was as criticism of Rich Rodriguez.)

Braylon's statement was more a clarification than an apology. Perhaps that's because he had nothing to apologize for. You're still crazy about this, though. How many words have you typed ranting about this in the past couple of days? If I ever read a story about Braylon having a crazed stalker, I know which MGoBlog poster I'd suspect first.

I'm glad he cleared the air on that issue. How funny (*not*) that this reversal of sorts was covered by the DetNews and not the Freep. But, Braylon, could you please SHUT UP in the future? It's unlikely that the Burgundy Blues, Les Miles Fan Club, grumpy Ann Arbor Townies, and the trolls on the Freep and MLive sites are going to take notice of your clarifying remarks. No -- they'll light their torches with the Freep's coverage of your introduction. If you really love Michigan, you'll learn some impulse control.

I loved watching you play for the maize and blue with Lloyd as your coach. Thanks for clarifying your statement. Don't worry about what all the idiots say. Love, mgoblog

Honestly, you are welcome to take your pick. Was this a genuine "tribute" to Lloyd Carr? If so, your "idiots" of choice are the Detroit Free Press writers, for whom I have no love, who started the national story line entitled, "Braylon takes shot at Rich Rodriguez." By the way, hours after Edwards' press release "clarification," the Free Press appears to still not be reporting it at all. Thanks for nothing, Free Press. I'm always game for nominating the Free Press writers as idiots of the moment. But on this one, I am uncharacteristically sympathetic to the Freep, as malignant as they may be. Or, there's Braylon as "idiot." For popping off, with a careless, easily-misinterpreted and weirdly cryptic comment about something as simple as where he went to college. Clearly, Braylon himself felt he needed to clarify it, the next day. Was Braylon really "clarifying"? Or was he weaseling out of a bad situation that his mouth got him into? Clearly, some here want to make folks like me out as part of the "idiot" segment. Hey -- I didn't make the original statement about "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan." You need to ask Braylon about that. And I didn't do the reporting, labeling it as a "shot" taken at Rich Rodriguez. Ask the Free Press and other news outlets about that. Lloyd Carr sure as hell didn't start this. And neither did Rich Rodriguez.

...about the old man from Riverview. Just think of it; Braylon's was the only "tribute." Not one of those other slugs on the Jets' starting offense were willing to shout-out their own custom tributes to their old coaches. What ingrates. What were they thinking?
