Braylon guarantees win vs UConn on Twitter
Michigan will not lose to Uconn this Saturday #TheBeard guarantees it! We getting back to Michigan football this season tell em #1 said that
Good to see Braylon thinking positively on game week and supporting the team rather than unintentionally stirring up some negative controversy. Wanted to share it because it fired me up and I thought those still peeved at him for "Lloyd Carr's Michigan" and other such overblown fiascos could welcome him back like a prodigal son. Now if only we could find somebody to wear that #1...

I sincerely hope your scenario comes true.

This #1 talk is ridiculous. We haven't even had a player with 500 receiving yards in the last 2 years. Yes, Manningham should have gotten it if he stayed for his senior year. The #1 jersey is for dominant WRs-1,000+ yards and 10+ TDs.

Look - to you and the others who fail to understand what we were debating - The issue is not that we have not had a WR worthy of the #1, the issue is PROSPECTIVE not RETROSPECTIVE. The issue is that caup stated that RR would withhold the #1 if we did have such a WR until Braylon apoligized or did something along those lines. It is a hypothetical based on future implications, not past actualities.

Do you realize that Braylon Edwards has veto power over who is given the #1 jersey?
If you don't realize that any head coach worth their salt would find this whole scenario ludicrous then I'd rather not debate this with you any longer.
No hard feelings.

"Do you realize that Braylon Edwards has veto power over who is given the #1 jersey?"
No, I did not realize this. If this is the case, then I agree with you wholeheartedly. I am just quite surprised, and skeptical, that this is the case.

and Braylon, very publicly, vetoed that decision. The terms of BE's very generous charitable gift to UM came with his ability to control who is given the #1 jersey. There are a bunch of criteria, blah, blah, blah, but in essence it boils down to BE needing to agree with the decision before it can be finalized. And THAT is some crazy junk that RR wants no part of.

Well, this does paint a very differnt picture - it sounds like it boils down to the fact that RR feels he cannot make the decision himself, therefore he will not make it - rather than him not making it due to being pissed at Braylon. But it is hard to ignore that It should have been clear to RR that that you dont offer the #1 to an incoming recruit, a DB to boot, even if it the #1 tradition is still in a burgeoning stage. Yet perhaps Braylon's reactions were too public and over the top also. Seems like the whole issue is unfortunate for all involved - RR, players, fans, and Braylon.

he has a scholarship that is dedicated to the WR that wears #1. JT Floyd would have merely not received the scholarship (had Edwards put his foot down) and still won #1.
from his OWN WEBSITE
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FOR UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN NO. 1 FOOTBALL JERSEY
The Scholarship Endowment for the University of Michigan's No. 1 football jersey was announced in April 2006. The charitable gift provides support to a student/athlete wearing the No. 1 football jersey. The scholarship endowment will recognize future athletes who demonstrate character and commitment both on and off the field. Athletes wearing the No. 1 jersey are selected by U-M's coaching staff. (emphasis added)
your shadow "sources" are getting a bit... iffy.

I am 99 percent certain that Braylon's only issue with Floyd being offered the jersey was that he wasn't a wide receiver. As long as it goes to a receiver, I really don't think he cares.

occured to me that the lack of a WR wearing #1 would have to do with Braylon and his big mouth. He does love twitter, and he likes to say things that make it into blogs, tv, radio, and newsprint. I'm not saying I buy this theory 100%, but it would make more sense as to why we haven't had someone in this jersey for so long. This year it's either Roundtree or Stonum who should wear it. I say give it out to a player to start the Big Ten season, and let the legend continue. The combination of that number and a winged helmet is magical. Go Blue!

Too bad Braylon doesn't feel any of our great young WRs are worthy of his "legacy."
What a crock.

I gauranteed victory via my friendster account 3 days ago...Braylon is late to the party.

Did you also post your guarantee on My Space?

Wow. You'd think Braylon was a Buckeye with the way folks are ripping him here. He's a good guy. He is a great Wolverine. He deserves at least as much respect as is being given to any current member of the team or coaching staff who has been in A2 for less years than Braylon put in.

I'm just more confused how a guy playing for the Jets is guaranteeing the victory of a team he doesn't play for. Is this the new high-water-mark for stupid guarantees?

but Braylon should be worried about how terrible pretty boy Sanchez has looked this preseason. Terrible. Miss that #1 on the field though.

I happen to agree with Braylon, and my beard guarantee's it as well. I just believe that we are too fast and athletic for UConn offensively. And on defense I think we will surprise some people for being better then originally thought. 4 days, cant wait. GO BLUE
