Braylon is hereby forbidden to publicly give his opinion in regards to the #1.  Love him for all he did for UM and what he put up with in Cleveland, but just stop it with you ideas on the #1.  Let the coaches handle it from here.  K thnx.

one of the first "MANBALL LOVE" events was Brady hanging up the phone with whomever, so he could hug BE upon his triumphant return to Schembechler Hall.

I'd be happier with Braylon being forbidden to offer his opinion in any and all circumstances, public or private.

That's going a little far.  He was a great player here and has endowed a scholarship.  He has the right to come back and say what he wants.

We just don't have to take everything he says seriously.

It's a receiver's number, and #2 is going to be a DB's number from here on out.

We already have #7 established as a de facto QB legacy number, and #16 can become one as well.

Good lord - lot of Braylon hate here.  Yeah he's pretty much been a fuckup in the NFL - save for his one huge year in Cleveland.  But he never tarnished our program and I will forever be greatful for his games against State and Texas in 2004.

it wouldn't be a bad idea for him to just disappear for awhile.  Lay low Braylon and work on you and football.  We'll still be here when things clear up for you.

Giving the #1 jersey to an excellent WR is a nice tradition.

Giving the #1 jersey to an upperclassmen who has proven on-field excellence and off-field character is a tradition worth bragging about.

The tradition began with several excellent WRs wearing 1 (Carter, Alexander, Terrell) but in-between (Butterfield, McMurtry) there some just-decent players.  What MADE the tradition something worth talking about was Lloyd insisting that the #1 jersey was something that was EARNED.

If Denard hasn't earned it with how he's carried himself, his resilience, his leadership and of course how he's played, I don't know who has.

I hope that the #1 and #2 can go to offensive and defensive players AT ANY POSITION that exhibit both character and excellence by the end of their 2nd season.  David Harris could have worn the 2.  Mike Hart could have worn the 1.  This would have been pretty awesome and certainly better than Cato June or Tyrone Butterfield.

it safe to change "the rules" around about the No. 1 jersey.

Way to go Braylon!  What would UM do without these precious, handholding words of guidance?

And gee, is this the part where we're surprised?

.....in both blue, white, UTL, and maize versions?

David Brandon approves of this comment.  Adidas is printing #1 jerseys as we speak....

Athletic Scholarship: Braylon Edwards has created a $500,000 gift to create a scholarship endowment for football players/students at the University of Michigan, wearing the number one.  The gift is the largest pledged to the department by a current professional athlete, and links the Braylon Edwards Foundation to the No. 1 jersey. The endowment will be awarded to the Michigan football player who wears the No. 1 jersey. If no player currently wears the No. 1 jersey, then the award will be granted to another player who exhibits exceptional off-field behavior and conducts himself as a team player.

so much hate for Braylon...ya he is a hype of a person sometimes, but i cherish the memories.  he was an incredible player and wore the 1 well.  It's not like Desmond hypes himself right........If he truely wants to give back to the school in this way i support it.

Just because Braylon says it doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

It's unfortunate that Braylon has basically hijacked everything having to do with the Michigan #1 jersey.  I don't begrudge him the honor of wearing it at Michigan, because in the tradition as it developed he "earned" it while playing wide receiver at Michigan.  But #1 shouldn't be the Braylon Edwards Award.

In my mind, the real #1 will always be Anthony Carter.  No one in recent Michigan history had ever worn the number until AC appeared.  It is hard to recreate just what magic AC created at Michigan, particularly in contrast to what "boring" offenses Bo had before.  #1 is the pinnacle for Michigan receivers because before AC the wide receiver position was one of the least important positions on the team.  AC is the one who made it possible for a wide receiver at Michigan to play an important role in the offense.

I would prefer that #1 go to a player who is special and evokes what Anthony Carter meant to Michigan.  As far as I'm concerned, that magic doesn't need to be restricted to a wide receiver.  i would be happy if several years passed by and no one was sufficiently special to deserve the jersey.

And yes, I'd be happy to have Denard be awarded #1 because I do think he's special in a way that evokes what Anthony Carter meant to Michigan.

There's no question that Carter and Edwards are the first two names that come to mind RE:#1.

Both were excellent on the field, that's a given.

Carter represented a new element in the Michigan offense, and Denard does as well.

Edwards represented (at the time) resilience and determination off-field, and Denard does that as well.  The way he handled the coaching transition was a dream come true.

Denard deserves whatever accolades and honors that are available to be bestowed upon him.  That includes #1, if he wants it.

Denard Robinson is certainly deserving of wearing No. 1. He has both excelled as a player and set up a good example as a Michigan team member.

Numbers should be kept active so each year, it can be discussed if anyone is deserving of the honor. It  will also give us all the opportunity to remember the great players who wore that number in the past.

if it had been Rich Rodriguez suggesting that the #1 should go to somebody other than a WR.

And even if offered, Denard should stay with #16. If he took #1, he'd be just another star with that number, along with AC and BE. If he stays with #16, he'll "own" that number by the time he's graduated.

Denard Robinson's #16 has already become somewhat iconic in the world of Michigan football, and really, what's wrong with carrying on the tradition of giving it to a WR? Besides, I just paid for some Denard #16 stationery and it is too late to change the order.

WTF? Didn't Braylon throw a hissy fit over Rich Rod giving the number 1 jersey to a non-WR just a few years ago, because it broke with "tradition?" Now, he's openly advocating that a non-WR be granted the number 1?

They ought to give the number 1 to Matt Wile, and tell Braylon to shut his mouth. Lately, I feel like Braylon cares more about the fate of "his" number 1 jersey than that of the actual program.

would Michigans next heisman trophy winner want the number 1 jersey? Number 16 will possibly be mentioned with #21 and #2 at soome point,  especially if this team beats Ohio, MSU, and do some damage in a bowl game in the next two years.
