I was wondering if anyone else caught that. I had to replay it to make sure that's what he said. I think that speaks volumes.
Braylon Edwards on SNF
and kind of breaks my heart a little
I wonder why he would do that.
Rewind! I can't beleive he said that in national tv.
Winning solves all ailments. The alumni will flock back once we start winning (more) again.
But I think Braylon's comments echo the feelings of a lot of former players I've spoken to including a few from the group that just graduated. Thusfar, Rick Leach is the only one I have spoken to who outwardly backs him. A few are various stages of indifferent ranging from interest in his system to his past track record. A whole lot are just flat out not happy whether its because they didn't like the hire in the first place or they're just not liking the losing and end of the various streaks.
Definitely says a lot about his opinion of Rodriguez. Dhani Jones and Leon Hall said "University of Michigan" and "Michigan" for the record.
Edwards has always been the type of guy to speak out about those types of things. He will always voice his thoughts on Michigan. I think it's a little ridiculous that he would do that, but whatever. Can't tell him what to do.
Dhani Jones and Leon Hall represented the way one should.
Seriously Braylon? So apparently he isn't connected to Michigan from 1879-1995 either.
Haha, the first thing was I thought was - man, I need to bring this up on the forum. I'm shocked as well - this is like the time he wore the Penn State shirt before the PSU game in RR's first year. We need all the support we can get - not this stuff. Hopefully he'll change his tune after next year.
You obviously don't know much of anything about Braylon Edwards; he did the same thing for a long time to show he wasn't scared of the upcoming opponent. It's not done to demonstrate a lack of support.
Hopefuly no recruits took note, but damn what would I do to have those days back
Braylon never played for Rich Rod
Lloyd was and is awesome and deserving of recognition
If you want to say I'm intentionally obtuse, that's fine, but it's not like he said "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan which used to not suck before this dumbass showed up"
Leon Hall and Dhani Jones didn't play for RR, either.
Holy shit, you're right. I changed my mind. Fuck Braylon. What did he ever do for Michigan? We should have revoked his Michigan Man library card when he discontinued his $500,000 scholarship to Michigan after we hired Rich Rod.
Nice strawman you've got going there.
Do you know what a straw man is? Because I could have sworn the board was accusing Braylon of anti-Rich Rod propaganda, to which I responded with his continuation of an annual scholarship even during Rich Rod's tenure. That strikes me as fairly on-topic. But hey, if you want to outcast Braylon for honoring the only college coach he had, have fun.
OMG YOU ARE NOT A MICHIGAN MAN.
If you think that was Braylon honoring his college coach, then you must have not really understood him.
I've edited this twice since reading the rest of the thread. I don't know if this was a shoutout or an attack on Rich Rod, but if nothing else, the fact that this causes us so much concern is NOT a good sign about anything.
You're both wrong it's the WICKER man.
You are intentionally obtuse.
Did Mark Sanchez say "Pete Carroll's University of Southern California"?
Have you ever heard ANYONE say something like that?
Braylon's got an axe to grind and he thought this was a good idea. Unfortunately, Braylon hasn't been making good life decisions lately--ie) beating up one of LeBron's boys in Cleveland, knocking up a reality show contestant, etc...
Yes, yes I have. Would you prefer that he cite his high school instead?
..you people doubt that man's support and effort for the University of Michigan, you really have some issues.
Go googlestalk some 16 year old recruits.
what do you mean, "you people?"
Saying "Joe Blow, Martin Luther King High School" is NOT the same as what Braylon said. I don't care if he paid for the new press box at the Big House with money he made selling lemonade as a kid. That's a bullshit move--and I like Braylon.
Exactly. If Braylon really loves the U of M, which he does, then he needs to voice his feelings some other way. You support the coach and go talk to him in person if need be. I still love Bray Bray but he did not think this one through.
from one Bishop Gallagher Lancer to another!
Glad to see someone has BG's back.
He and Snooki are going to produce wonderful looking children with poofs and butterfingers.
And continuing to support RR and the program with scholarships and training with Barwis during the off-season. Except for the gaff with the #1 that was quickly fixed, do you have anything to believe that Braylon is anti-RR? No.
That sucked. Apparently, he's not "all in."
yea regardless of what happens when you go to Michigan...your a wolverine for life. I love Braylon but thats chicken shit
And Woodson would sometimes say - "You know the school." This argument can go both ways. I think he is just giving props to Lloyd. There is no way you can prove this one way or another. Not everything is an attack on RR.
His Super Bowl intro was, "School of Hard Knocks." Who was pissed then? I didn't like it but it's kind of true.
IIRC, he said that while wearing a Michigan hat/visor....so at least we had that going for us...
can come from a comment like that, has Braylon just lost his mind since going pro? Shut up, play ball, support your alma mater. If he was worrying less about stuff like that maybe he'd actually be playing up to his talent level again.
I rewound the TIVO, Braylon's introduction was 2.75 seconds. If you think it's affecting his performance, you really have got to get a grip.
I'd like to know how many of you have established scholarships at "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan?"
I didn't. Of course, I didn't graduate from there either. I graduated from the University of Michigan.
So if I establish a scholarship at U of M, can I do anything I want and it would be ok? Watch out RichRod, as soon as I establish a scholly you are getting junkpunched for these last 2 years.
Shouldn't the fact that he established the scholarship be one of the main reasons he should be supporting the football team right now? Or is it really that important to him that we have a divided fan base (and athletic department) right now?
Once you go blue you're always blue, no expectations. Braylon didn't represent today.
GO BLUE!! FOREVER
I am guessing the #1 goes to whomever the fuck RR wants it to go to next year. Seriously Braylon should STFU and catch the football.
Braylon and Lloyd are on the "same page" these days. I doubt Braylon would've been so complimentary of Lloyd when they were not on the "same page" during his playing days. I like Braylon but c'mon. No need for cheap shots. Also no need for the Jets to make the playoffs based on wins over second and third string versions of the Colts and Bengals.
You all are really making Ohio State, Notre Dame and all SEC fans seem like rational, level-headed folks. Take off your tin foil hats. My God.
"Just because you're paranoid don't mean they're not after you." C. Cobain.
For true, though, this is not exactly an endorsement of the present status quo.
a lot to Braylon and that helped him on his path to the NFL...but there is no shortage of knowledge that RR and Bray got off on the wrong foot and who knows if that continues. This might seem to say it has.
Maybe he's tired of his college coach getting dragged through the mud?
It's not a stretch to say there's been a LOT of negative things said about Lloyd and his legacy to explain what's happened at Michigan the last two years.
At any rate, I think we're making a mountain out of a mole hill here.
Im not gonna crucify him just yet. Maybe it was just a shout out to his college coach and not so much ripping on RR.
it may have been 100% innocent, but Braylon must know that a comment like that is not going to help to smooth any dissension within the fan base. I can't speak for him, and yes this was very minuscule, but I'd be quite careful with my words and try and reflect nothing but support for my alma mater.
two second shout-out to his college coach and alma mater that no one besides Michigan obsessives noticed will keep us from beating Ohio State how? AHHHHH 244 DAYS TILL UCONN WOO
Adrian Arrington to Iowa
So...what, is Braylon Edwards Michigan's version of Manny Ramirez? He gets excused for all his antics? His comments about the #1 snafu (btw, did anyone bother to talk to RR about that behind closed doors first?), the Penn State shirt, and now this? It's just Braylon being Braylon?
Ask yourself: Do you think Edwards would've said what he said if RR was winning? Why not give LC the shoutout every time? Why wait until RR is 8-16 in the hole?
Some of you want to put your heads in the sand and chalk it up to "Braylon being Braylon", fine. You see a former player giving his old coach a shoutout. I see a guy who's never grown up and is being a petulant child because things aren't going the way he wants them to.
use more catch phrases and memes in all further posts, thereby eliminating any thought you actually have.
well, so what? Why do you care? Do you think this will have any tangible effect on Rodriguez's tenure as Michigan's head coach? Do you know Braylon? Does he call you at home? DO YOU HAVE A DORSEL FIN?
i've always wanted a manny ramirez. looks like fun. "braylon being braylon". it's got a nice ring to it. even has alliteration.
Maybe he's just giving props to his college coach.
Or MAYBE he's *GASP* unhappy with the direction of the program and using his freedom of speech to voice that displeasure. HOW DARE ANYONE MAKE A PUBLIC COMMENT AGAINST OUR LORD AND CONQUEROR RICH RODRIGUEZ?!?!?!?!
When you're an American citizen AND you give a large chunk of money to establish a scholarship at the University of Michigan, I think you have the right to say "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan" and not be publicly vilified.
Some of you guys are really uptight about anybody who doesn't toe the company line. Yeesh.
maybe theyre just unhappy with the way in which i voiced my opinion.
hold up.. i gotta go drop this pass, brb
First of all, I don't think this is as big of a deal as people are making it, however, if he's unhappy with the direction of the program there are much more constructive ways of going about improving it than this. He has given scholarship money to the program and that's constructive, so he's obviously capable of doing positive things to make the program better. The recent situation is not at all helpful and only has the potential to make things worse. To what degree worse, I don't know, probabably not much...but this wasn't exactly the best way to make the program's situation any better.
It's not about giving his undying support to Rich Rod and "toeing the company line"..it's about the combination of 1) helping the program whenever you can (as he did through scholarships) and 2) not hurting it (the opposite of what he did on SNF).
I'm sure he gets some shit for Michigan's failures from other players in the locker room. Not saying that I like what he said, but I interpret it as, "Yeah, I went to Michigan, but I played during the Lloyd years, so associate me with that."
And I'm pretty sure if Braylon has a problem with the direction of the program/Rich Rod/etc, we'll hear about it again/in other ways, too.
OMG OBVIOUSLY BRAYLON MISSED THAT PASS BECAUSE HE'S CAUGHT UP IN RIPPING RICH ROD AND LEON HALL MADE THE PLAY BECAUSE HE IS A TRUE MICHIGAN MAN AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING OUT OF LINE DURING THE STUPID NBC INTRO.
Seriously, how much better would our lives be if noone was paying attention to the television about an hour ago. What a stupid thing to waste time arguing about.
Is it football season yet?
Im not going to hate him quite yet. He still loves Michigan but doesn't quite care for RR and his tune could change WHEN RR dominates next year. Also Braylon gives a ton back to michigan unlike some other high profile NFL stars.
I don't care what he said, I just want him to LOSE. My Texans need it.
Andrea Kramer can get to the bottom of this story...
Because David Harris just said Ottawa Hills.
Wow, what a non issue this is.
Unless you're into the TMZing of the sports world.
Seriously, they showed a close up highlight of hall vs edwards and they talked about michigan vs michigan. recruits saw that as much as anything else. Man, y'all worry about way to fucking much.
We just beat the buckeyes in hoops. we cant even enjoy that without the board freaking out about a player intro that nobody was probably even paying any attention to to begin with. Rabbit ears, anyone?
A sports-centered TMZ is in the works.
DAVID HARRIS HATES MICHIGAN.
THROW HIM IN THE SCHEMBECHLER HALL GULAG AT ONCE
YOU JUST MADE THE LIST PAL. THE ENEMIES LIST. A LIST I KEEP. OF MY ENEMIES.
He was great his senior year, and it really improved his draft status.
I'm going to go ahead and assumed to meant it as a nod of respect to Lloyd and leave it at that.
Braylon has given tons of money (not to mention effort) to Michigan.
For any of us to even question him, for a SNF intro is ludicrous. He's shouting out his former coach, whom he obviously loves. Period. Stop being paranoid.
You would think with all that love, he would shout out for Lloyd in pregame and postgame pressers as well as during the game. Maybe a Lloyd Carr gang sign he can throw up after a dropped pass because he loves him so much.
It was bush-league. Period. Stop excusing him for taking a shot at RichRod.
There is nothing wrong with Braylon not liking RichRod (if this is the case). He does not owe Rodriguez any loyalty and is entitled to his opinion. I think more than anything he is probably just frustrated with how things have gone for the Michigan the last few years and is just venting. No harm done, it's not like there isn't a portion of the fan base that feels the same.
Well then I hope RichRod comes out and says "fuck Braylon Edwards, I am giving the #1 to whoever I want." I mean, RichRod doesn't owe Braylon anything and is entitled to run the team how he likes. What is that you say, it is tacky and gutless to take unprovoked shots at someone just because you have the medium to do so? Well, I am sure some people think Braylon was being a total prick by calling out RichRod on TV, so there is no harm done there.
RR actually does owe something to Braylon: There are stipulations on the scholarship that he endowed. I doubt RR is going to do anything to make that substantial amount of money disappear, especially with the other scholarships Braylon has endowed at the University.
At any rate, calm down, it was 4 words on a 5-second SNF intro. It's going to be OK.
I didn't know the University of Michigan belonged to Lloyd Carr.
The man has given a lot of money back to this university. Funded some scholarships, if I'm not mistaken.
Keyshawn Johnson once introduced himself as from "the real USC" back when SC was struggling and South Carolina had a good year. I remember this distinctly.
Not that big a deal. The man's emotional but his heart's in the right place I think.
Instead of not being pleased with the college you attended and its athletics program, namely the football team, focus on your career. How many playoff wins has Braylon led his NFL teams to? How many pro-bowls has he made? I loved Braylon as much as anyone while he was at Michigan but his run in the NFL has been less than stellar in all facets. He's been a problem child and likes to ruffle feathers so who cares what he says in his intro.
Unless he was stabbing a RichRod voodoo doll in the head, a Brandon Minor/Carlos Brown voodoo doll ANYWHERE, and simultaneously pissing on Bo's grave, color me unconcerned and uninterested.
Maybe Braylon being upset with RichRod (if he actually is) is something that's worth noting. I also can't believe there are this many comments on this so late on a Sunday night. Holy overkill Batman.
the best thread ever.
you used to be cool, man.
(mgoboard, not braylon. braylon's still cool)
He is a fantastic Michigan Man, has give mounds of money to The University of Michigan, that's good enough for me.
doesn't he workout with Barwis' staff during the off-season?
Then I stayed up until now watching Dragonball Z online.
I'm blaming all of you. Assholes.
This is going to be a long off-season.
Didn't Woodley intro himself on an MNF as being from Detroit Pershing?
What are we to infer from that?
Related: Do we think FSU boards are burning up because Laveranues Coles said he was from Jacksonville?
Woodley went to Saginaw High, so I'm guessing he didn't intro himself like that.
But really, this stuff doesn't matter. People introduce themselves from different cities, high schools, universities, etc. all the time now, so who cares
...there'd be a thread about how he hates saginaw high.
You're referring to Larry Foote.
Carr was Braylon's coach, and after his father Stan is undoubtedly one of the most important adult men in Braylon's life. The one unfortunate thing about RR's time here is that it has been an opportunity for Carr-bashers to vent their displeasure over Carr's tenure (something RR has never done himself), and I would bet good money that Braylon doesn't enjoy hearing his college coach trashed on a continuing basis by Michigan fans. I interpret this as nothing more than vocal support for his coach, nothing more.
BE may well not be a big fan of RR, and he's entitled to his opinion if that's the case. Plenty of alumni players have been vocal and open in their support of RR, but that doesn't mean all of them are in his camp at this time. If BE starts openly criticizing RR, then people can take issue with that when it happens.
I remember a few years ago when Woodson mentioned his high school or peewee football team in his TV intro prior to an NFL game. All kinds of folks got outraged over his alleged dissing of his college alma mater. I guess that was an overreaction, right?
Interpret it any way you want, I interpret it as not only a sign of disrespect towards the current coach and staff, but also the current players, training staff and managers as well.
Fuck Braylon Edwards. He has gone from one of my favorite players of all time to one of my most disliked in about 12 months.
Typical Wide Reciever shenanigans.....his on the field and off the field shenanigans are ridiculous.
Go take an acting or modeling class asshole.
Fuck you Braylon.
Braylon needs to check his EGO
Fuck Braylon. Period.
He has every right to not like Rich Rodriguez. I don't blame him for that - it's a free country and he has earned his right as a Michigan Man to have that opinion.
But voicing his displeasure in the most public way possible is absolutely classeless.
A True Michigan Man wouldn't do that.
Like I said, I loved him at the University of Michigan. He was my favorite player of all time.
Now I can't stand the asshole. A little maturity is needed with this guy - the money got to his head.
Braylon, Go Fuck Yourself.
You can probably tell that I'm pissed about this. Because I am. This is utterly ridiculous that he would do that.
It doesn't hurt Rich Rodriguez. It hurts Michigan. And that's what pisses me off.
Like I read a few weeks ago on a very well written blog piece.
As much as we hate going 3-9, 5-6 and missing out on bowls, losing to our rivals and other crappy teams....there's one person on this earth who hates it 100X more than we do and wants it to change 100X as bad as we do.
It's Rich Rodriguez.
Braylon's theatrics don't do anything to help what Coach Rod is trying to accomplish, which is win championships.
Braylon is a fucking prima donna joke.
I hope he's a fucking Allouette in a few years.
"loyalty" is a bizarrely formulated quality when you allow your opinion of someone to go from from near idolization to "FUCK YOU, _____" at the snap of a finger, based on one comment that you don't completely understand.
Edwards IS loyal to Michigan. The man wouldn't give hundreds of thousands of dollars a year if he wasn't. Pretending otherwise is insanity. If you think this will impact ANYBODY'S opinion of RR, that's insanity. I'm betting that nobody other than the "Michigan Football year-round OCD" crowd here even noticed it.
Finally - WHO CARES if he doesn't like Rodriguez? Edwards' comment isn't going to make a difference in whether RR wins 0 or 12 games next year - Rodriguez is going to sink or swim in 2010 on his own, and Braylon's statement will be meaningless.
My "loyalty" to Braylon didn't go away at a snap of a finger. He's done/said some pretty idiotic things in the past 24 months.....additionally, I know a few of his former friends and they say "He done Changed!"
Plus, he can't catch shit....overrated.
That's pretty much all it is - ego. It really doesn't matter. You won't hear much more of this stuff once RR starts winning.
It would be much easier to listen to Braylon if he had dropped a few less clutch passes, but what he says is pretty much irrelevant regardless.
I do however admire his philanthropy, though he would be better served with a slightly quieter approach ala Charles Woodson (who dropped far fewer clutch passes).
Yes, Braylon's comment was a (minor) dig at Rich Rod. No, it was not the wisest thing to say.
Big deal. To the people complaining that he is "further fracturing the fan base" -- do you understand how irrelevant we, as fans, are to the team's success? Rich Rod is going to be here next year, no matter how many fans complain about the current state of the program. If the team does well next year, he will be back, and comments like Braylon's will never be thought of again. If the team has only 1 or 2 wins in the Big 10 again, he will be gone, and the fault will lie with Rich Rod, not Braylon.
...and he thinks that lloyd carr actually owns the university of michigan.
Dave Harris said "Ottawa Hills" which is where he went to high school, so I wonder if it's a Jets thing. Jay Feely has certainly been running his mouth about it more than an average kicker should.
I love braylon and i love michigan so it is horrible to see this ...
however seeing as he is currently PAYING for a full scholie on the football team, something I beat non of us are doing, he probably has a right to speak his mind about the program even if i hate the message
And I'm not at all surprised it happened.
