South, unfortunately, has been associated with a disproportionate amount of police calls, almost unheard of in Birmingham. "South" has become something of a public nuisance.
Look; Braylon was the plaintiff in this civil case. It was a really odd legal theory; that some restaurant employees had reported that Braylon and his entourage had been involved in a scuffle at the restaurant, and that by linking Braylon to the bar fight, his NFL contract negotiations had been upset. (No doubt because a team might think that with all of Braylon's past indiscretions, he'd be a habitual behavioral problem on the team.)
Braylon's counsel no doubt had the case on a contingency basis. (No fee unless Braylon collects!) And my guess (if anybody knows better, I'm all ears) is that this was a small nuisance settlement to get rid of costly litigation. I would hazard a guess, that for tax reasons, no money ever changed hands with Braylon; that the insurer and/or the bar just agreed to make a donation at Braylon's direction. (It would be interesting to know if Braylon had to give a deposition; this settlement is occurring at the approximate time in civil litigation when the defense would be noticing the deposition of the plaintiff. Braylon's cousins could decline to testify, taking the Fifth. Braylon, without any ciminal jeopardy, probably could not.)
Here's the story about Braylon's "entourage" being charged with felony assault after the dustup. Braylon was never charged with anything in the matter. And since I don't want to get sued by Braylon, let me make it clear that I have no knowledge or information that Braylon was involved in any of the fork-stabbing.

A $14 million lawsuit NFL player Braylon Edwards filed against South Bar in Birmingham has been settled for a lot less.
“The insurer for South, despite the absence of any evidence to support Edward’s claims and the failure to respond to South’s discovery requests, agreed to settle Edwards frivolous suit for nuisance value in the amount of $10,000,” South co-owner Emily Puertas said in a statement Monday. “Edwards sought out the settlement, while South continued to defend against his meritless action. South admitted no responsibility in connection with the settlement.”
Attorney David Russell, representing Edwards, declined to comment on the settlement, other than to say Edwards was donating the full amount to his Advanced 100 scholarship fund that helps out students in Cleveland.

With the draft nearing, it's a time of great misinformation. Jason La Canfora has 10 thoughts, including a big draft curveball. More ...Edwards dropped the $14 million suit, which was filed in 2011, last month after reaching the settlement, TMZ.com said. Sources told the website that Edwards used the settlement money to establish scholarships for 100 kids.
Edwards has a foundation that serves under-privileged kids in education. It's not known if his charity was the beneficiary.
Edwards accused the restaurant and its workers of spreading false rumors of a bar fight involving him. Those rumors, he said, cost him a $15 million NFL deal.
Neither the terms of the settlement nor the team that offered the contract were reported.
Edwards played in nine games for the San Francisco 49ers last season, catching 15 passes for 181 yards. He is a seven-year veteran who also has played for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.

I wonder if he'll pony up the cash to put his little brother through college so he can play football at Michigan...save us a scholarship.

The last I heard about Edwards was that he was being looked at by MSU.
Any thoughts on where he will end up next year. He is running out of time to turn his NFL career around. I would personally like to see him play for a Lloyd Carr type of non-nonsense coach. Tom Coughlin and the Giants would be a good fit, as they just lost their #3 receiver in Mario Manningham. I would imagine that after all of his antics, Braylon would not command much in terms of salary, especially relative to his potential.

St. Louis could seriously upgrade the position bringing in Edwards and Justin Blackmon. Sam Bradford would probably give a couple million back to see that happen.
Braylon has always been a good, charitable guy. But he's also had an arrogant, attention-starved side that comes out when he drinks or is getting PAID. This whole getting cut and not being on a team deal is probably good for him in terms of personal growth. He is too physically gifted and athletic to not find a way to get signed on a team.
I like Braylon and his good nature when it comes to charaties. I don't like that he seems to control, or has influenct over, what should be Anthony Carter's #1 jersey. AC is the dude that made that jersey famous. For those of you that are too young, AC and Desmond were the same type of players. You can find old videos of Bo talking about Wangler to AC. Kid was electric everytime he touched the ball.
Braylon could be charitable and humble by having the #1 jersey honor AC.

Good for Edwards. Still think he is immature and probably never maximize his great talent, but he does seem to care about the community and is passionate about helping others, and for that I commend him.
