Yeah, I think most of us had

Yeah, I think most of us had him penciled in there for a while now.  Hey, they get their players and we get ours.  It's the biggest sports rivalry for a reason.  Once we get our shit put back together, we'll get our dubble-yoos.

"That's horrible" indeed.

Is he Pryor 2.0 or is it even worse news for us than that?

Thoughts?

Hopefully he's not smarter

Hopefully he's not smarter than Pryor... if so, he's going to be as good (if not better)

Whether he's as higly regarded as Pryor (consensus #1 recruit), Miller is Scout's #1 QB.

Lebron may not be as highly regarded as Jordan... but he's still unreal

I don't think Miller and

I don't think Miller and Pryor are all that comparable.  Pryor is huge and athletic, and a decent passer.  Miller is much smaller, quicker but maybe not faster, and a more polished passer.  The comparisons to Troy Smith are better.

Comparing their ability to

Comparing their ability to win due to their 5-star-level talent  (albeit different types of QBs).

But to everyones' point --- a decade of Smith - Pryor - Miller (assuming he lives up to his rankings) is pretty daunting as Michigan fans.

I miss the days of the Herbstreit Buckeyes...

Smith 2.0?

I've watched his film.  He looks like a lot better quarterback than Pryor, but less of a freakish athlete.  The easy comparison would be a taller Troy Smith.  Good arm strength, good mobility, good mechanics.

supposedly...

I'm told that his mechanics are already really good.  I don't think he's quite the athlete that Pryor is.  He's only about 6'0" tall.

b/c that means he won't ever be Devin Gardner 1.0!

I just hope Pryor goes pro

I just hope Pryor goes pro after this year, because I'd much rather see a true freshman playing in the Big House for the Buckeyes than 4th year starter Pryor.

Not a chance

There is no way Pryor is ready to go pro by the end of this year. That was a good performance in the Rose Bowl, but it wasn't Vince Young in the Rose Bowl (version 1 or 2).

Just because he's not VY yet,

Just because he's not VY yet, doesn't mean he won't decide to go pro.  If he has a good season, he might be one of the top QB's in the draft, behind probably Mallett and Locker.  Warren wasn't Woodson during his Junior year either, but he still went pro.  You don't have to be one of the best ever at your position to jump early for the draft.

IMO he won't make it in the

IMO he won't make it in the NFL as a QB...he just doesn't have the knowledge and mechanics. I think one thing that may sway him to go to the NFL early is if they win the NC. If you look at their depth chart, a heck of a lot of players are seniors this year. He may not want to be part of the rebuilding process.

A lot of people said that

A lot of people said that about Tebow too, and he went in the first round.  I think Pryor is just such an athlete, an NFL team will take a chance on him.  Personally, I think he projects really well at TE in the pros, if he can catch.

Tebow hasn't played a single

Tebow hasn't played a single NFL down yet. I agree with you that he projects extremely well as a TE or big WR, but not a QB. If he has a similar season as last year and decides to come out, he will still go in top 3 rounds but it will be a TE/WR prospect with a chance to be QB (although I highly doubt he would make it) a la Matt Jones (I think is his name)

I was under the impression that Pryor was VY 2.0 and that Gardner was VY 3.0 . I have deduced that this would make Gardner Pryor 2.0.

i think you'll see him

i think you'll see him decline in the rankings as the year goes on.  he'll still be highly ranked, but not top 50.  my guess is he settles between top 80-120.

Because he is now committed,

Because he is now committed, and committed prep athletes do not drive membership revenue at Scout and Rivals. Uncommitted preps who declare "I'm going to think about reducing my maybe list to a top 20" and stretch everything out until the god awful contrived hat selection events are the ones that make these sites money.

Proof? Ricardo Miller.

No surprises here.  It

No surprises here.  It doesn't worry me that much when highly regarded QBs commit to Ohio State.  Outside of Troy Smith's last 20 games as a Buckeye, QB has been a weak spot of Tressel's teams.

this could be good news

If this means our chances of landing Cardale from Glenville. Im ok with it, i wrote Braxton off after a recruiting video of him at OSU surfaced a long while back.

I'm definitely on your side

I'm definitely on your side with this one.  There are 2 things getting in the way of m fans objectively analyzing Cardale.  The first, he's from Glenville, and people want in to that school so badly, it almost doesn't matter who the player is or how good of a fit he is for us.  Second, I think I lot of people often confuse "black QB" and "dual-threat QB."  Cardale Jones is more like Navarre than he is like Pat White, IMO.  That doesn't make him a bad QB, but I don't think he's a great fit for us.

I like Hundley, and I like

I like Hundley, and I like Marquise Williams.  Maybe Kevin Sousa if we can't get either of those guys.  And I'm sure RR disagrees with me, but if we can't get one of the top guys on our board, I say we don't take a qb this year.  We took 2 last year, and they'll probably both RS.

ok..

I was selfishly hoping by takiong him, we might get more looks from other talented Glenville players. I believe at one point we used to get a few of their players from time to time, Correct me if i am wrong.

Not much of a surprise.  He's a very good athlete.  I don't think he really fits into what Tressel likes to do down there in Columbus, but whatever.  Hopefully the Talbott brothers can make him regret his decision in a couple years.

Tall QB's

never thought miller was serious about Michigan (i hope tressel slows his grow like most of the other QB's under his watch), so i have been hoping we can get hundley or williams, ie a taller/thicker QB, who can handle the pounding of big ten play and be a passer who can run if needed

I think Cardale would be an

I think Cardale would be an excellent get for us; of course he'd have a shot at starting, but if he didn't  win that spot, he would give us some depth at the position, which is really what we are looking for in another QB this year, isn't it? Also, I don't think you could underestimate the importance of getting our foot in the door at Glenville; we treat Coach Ginn's player well, we might get in on some other guys. I like the effort Coach has placed on getting a foothold into that school.

I don't think you ever

I don't think you ever recruit a guy with the goal being "added depth."  If you don't think the guy has what it takes to lead the team, don't take him.  So it sounds to me like the only reason you want to take him is to get our foot in the door at his school.  If that's the case, take Aundrey Walker, at least he's a highly rated guy at a position of need.  Hell, if that's your only reason, take a guy with MAC offers who you know will commit, then we'll look like the good guys far having faith in a player no one else did.

Let me say that I don't think that last idea is a good one, just that it's as good of an idea as yours.

I don't think we should take

I don't think we should take him just to be a clipboard holder either, I just think at the end of the day Devin will benefit from being in the UM system for a year and will have the jump on Cardale. At Glenville he is a quarterback in a system similar to ours and he did a decent job running it, taking his team all the way to the state championship. I liked what I saw on his highlight video; he isn't slow (if folks think he's John Navarre, it's only because he's a big kid running fast), he's got a good eye for downfield, and he can run option in a system similar to ours. So no, I'm not simply saying pick him up for 'added depth'; I don't view Cardale as a throw-in, he's doing a good job for himself. At the same time I'm not saying I view him as our number one option, but if we get him I won't be upset.

WHAT AM I MISSING???

What am I missing about this kid?  Recruits that are hyped this much usually destroy high school football.  He barely threw for over 1000 yards, his comp% was only 53, and he only threw for 9 touchdowns.  So I'm thinkin, alright, he must have ran over everybody, and he only rushed for 450 yards.  Pryor ran for over 30 TDs, and averaged 9 yards a carry.  Devin Gardner ran for 1800 yards, and rushed and threw for over 20 TDs.  So what's with his production?  Kids this hyped, pryor, bush, gardner, it was as if the opposing team wasn't even on the field sometimes.

Partial Answer

He plays against high-level competition.  He also shows a lot of ability, even if that doesn't lead to stats...Denard Robinson didn't have great stats in high school.

Wouldn't the fact that he is

Wouldn't the fact that he is injury prone drop his stock down even further?

Great Argument..

2008: Gardner was 98-of-170 pass attempts for 1,886 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added 115 carries for 1,401 yards and 22 touchdowns.  -Scout.com

I personally dont think he is as good as Gardner. but thats just my opinion.. FWIW

Miller

One, no surprise

Two, I dont care about all the breakdowns, all I know is this guy wins games he starts. He'll be a player. Next in line after Pryor, maybe in 2012 as a RS Frosh. OSU fans, is that pretty much the ideal timeline here or is there somebody else on the depth chart I'm forgetting

Three, I look forward to seeing this kid play in college and going 0-3 against Devin Gardner

Four, Huber Heights is becoming a pipeline for college players lately. Jerel Worthy at MSU, the Talbot Bros at MICH and now Miller at OSU. Somebody scout the schools freshmen and sophomores, STAT!

OSU's QB depth is not in good

OSU's QB depth is not in good shape past Pryor. Miller will start as soon as Pryor leaves.

The kid has a terrific

The kid has a terrific ceiling, but needs to mature and work on his decision making. He'll blow you away with one play, then the next play he'll make a huge mistake.

I'm not overly worried.. Unless Tressel is suddenly recruiting all dual-threats to run the spread.
