Brandon Peters ranked #3 at Elite 11, Day 2

Submitted by MayOhioEatTurds on

So they tell us the second day of Elite 11 Competition is more difficult:  Instead of throwing in a vaccuum, QBs throw to non-elite WRs against a non-elite defense.  The object is to make throws and score touchdowns.

Brandon Peters was 6/6 for two touchdowns.  As a result, 247 ranks him 3rd out of all QB prospects based on day 2's performance.  This ranking does not include day 1 performance, at which Peters was also solid.

"Quietly, Peters continues to be one of the most consistent performers in this Elite 11 group. There was never a doubt on any of his throws, he spun it well and put it on the money for every throw. Rarely do you see Peters throw a wobbler or skip a football."

BP can really play - technical issues are small and fixable, arm strength, accuracy, and athleticism are high. No way to know how he will respond when we are down 4 in the 4th in Columbus, but I like how he showed up in Beaverton as an underdog saying "F y'all I'm gonna ball".

After a year or two of sitting he can have a 1st round draft pick career here.

He's a great athlete with a great arm and touch on deep throws. Watch his film he plays very instinctively and athletically much like his future coach. And I think I read that he's only played QB for a couple years with limited coaching meaning he's a natural talent at the position. Excited for this guy. He's gonna be a stud after JH gets a hold of him.

This kids athletic, has the size, and seems to do well under pressure. I was really doubting Harbaugh when he compared him to a young Luck, but the more I see and read, he might be on to something. I guess that's why he gets paid the big bucks and I don't.

Peters seems a bit like Brady - late bloomer. Needs to pack on about 25lbs and turn that corner. At 20 years old he could be something special under JH's tutelage.

There is something about this kid that makes me see "Superstar". I can't put my finger on what it is. I think it might be that he can be quick with out looking rushed, and that he seems to be able to make adjustments very quickly. Magnus may be able to comment about this, but his mechanics and ball placement seem to have improved by a good bit this summer.

If Peters isn't in the top 11 we should release him from his scholarship. That obviously means he will never be any good and won't be able to improve ever, even with having the QB Whisperer for a Coach. #sarcasm

Anyone else surprised at the description of Peters being a superb athlete!? I was. Guess I should t have been considering that is what Harbaugh seems to target is the "best athlete".

Even if his rankings don't boost because of his Elite 11 performance I'm ok with that. More importantly, he will have left the event having learned something, all while gaining confidence in himself as a QB. These types of experiences will help him once he arrives on campus when he's competing to be QB1.

I wonder what the disconnect is from the recruiting services rankings and the camps rankings? Maybe the recruiting people are just going by the results of the throws/drills, and the camp people are more concerned with mechanics. Being #3 in one list and unranked in another is strange. Didn't Morris have the same thing happen?

making the Elite 11 event is very likely a major accomplishment. But once there, it's a crapshoot and I don't think the specific rankings matter much, the actual "Elite 11" vs other 7 or so might be worthwhile but there's so much crap and Dilfer bias involved that they don't matter much.

A good example I liked was when Asante Woullard (spelling is wrong I'm sure) I think won, he was having a terrible day and just not throwing well at all (I think slightly injurted), but Dilfer liked him so he gave the guy the last 2 minute drill of the day that he scored on, so all the counselors there went nuts, shot him up the rankings and whatnot. He got major points for being clutch, and tough, and other stuff like that even though he wasn't very good at quarterbacking that day; even though other guys were clearly better at actually throwing a football.

Pretty sure Wilton Speight also complained about the huge imbalance of reps between some of the guys after he did it. So yeah, I like when a QB makes it, I don't care what Dilfer says after that.

@Elite11: The 2015 #Elite11 Finals rankings heading into Day 4 of the competition #KeepClimbing http://t.co/q6VJ52gFva Not good at embedding tweets but the elite 11 Twitter account released more rankings after day 3 and a Peters is tied for 11th now with Malik Henry. So he's moving up. Just being on par with a lot of these top QBs means he's a legit talent. And he's the only one there who will have Harbaugh.

At the 2012 Elite 11, Johnny Stanton was the #1 QB after Day 2.  He signed with Nebraska in 2013.  He had offers from both Nebraska and Oregon State (among other schools).

However, this spring he was 5th on Mike Riley's depth chart, behind returning starter Tommy Armstrong, two redshirt freshman and a former walk-on from Grand Island.   A few weeks ago, Stanton "decided" to leave the Huskers and enroll at Saddleback Community College in Orange County.

He's not the only 2012 alumnus who's failed to make the transition to be a standout college QB.   Based on the list below, I'd say Hackenberg and Goff are the only two who have.

2012 Elite 11 list

Asiantii Woulard - UCLA/South Florida
Max Browne - USC
Christian Hackenberg - Penn State
Zack Greenlee- Fresno State
Luke Del Rio - Alabama(walk on)/Oregon State/???
Jared Goff - Cal
Malik Zaire - Notre Dame
Johnny Stanton - Nebraska/???
Shane Cockerille - Maryland
Kevin Olsen - Miami/Towson/???
Joshua Dobbs - Tennessee
