Brandon Peters Highlight Video

Submitted by alum96 on

I don't know how much overlap this has to his HUDL vid (posted 11/15) but this video was just put up on youtube Thursday and it is pretty enticing.  Of course the normal caveats of highlights only, caliber of competition in Indiana, etc but he looks to have a great long ball touch, and some jitter in his step.... should be able to scramble similar to Jake Rudock I'd think - difficult to compare a guy running away from D1 athletes vs kids in Indiana of course but he definitely is an athlete at least vs this competition.  Really like his ability to throw the long ball on target and with apparent ease.

If he can maintain his current strengths while acquiring arm strength then we will have a true stud here in the future

I never made a thread, but I'd check out Dylan McCaffrey's new highlight video as well. I don't think I've ever seen better from a kid at that level. He's going to be a monster.

Also will be very interesting to compare how Peters vs KJ Costello works out in 5 years.  KJ was apparently Jim's original top target and was always a top 50 ranked guy, ended up at Stanford.  Peters was approx a 175th ranked recruit and has now risen to be the 6th ranked pro prospect QB (Costello 5th) and approx 60th overall.  Both will obviously play in similar offenses.

Not that HS stats are end all be all but Costello had an elite JR year but then basically stayed at exactly same spot as a SR.  (60% completion rate, 2-1 TD to INT)   Peters jumped significantly his SR year to log a similar completion rate but his TD-INT ratio a sick 37-5.  All that improvement just from being around Jim a few hours in a camp setting :D just imagine what improvement will come after 2 years of #Harbaugh.

It was Costello and yes, we were trying to flip Eason at the same time we were heavily recruiting Costello. However, Peters emerged in the late spring and we never really looked back. There was some *sigh* type feelings when we got him --- if you look at his junior year tape, he seemed like a future RS Jr starter that would give us two solid years.

His improvement has been remarkable. Especially the arm strength. He floated a lot of passes in his sophomore/junior film. His senior film you can really see him driving balls down field and to the outside.

No, I believe when mid Jan dead period ended last year he actually flew out to CA to see the uncommited Costello before anyone else.  Even before seeing DeWeaver so that was a slap in the face.  Heck he went to Houston to recruit non QBs before seeing DeWeaver.

Flirtation with Eason (who was already committed) was later on and relatively short lived - I think just a kick the tire thing to see if there was any sort of crack in that committment.

I don't recall where Peters was in the timeline vs Eason but I do think he committed in March-ish - I think he committed very quickly after Costello did or just about the same time.  We might have been going after Eason post Peters committment if my memory is correct as people were saying how the heck could we land 2 such calibar QBs in 1 class and others were worried it might push away Peters etc.

IMO, this is one of the best QB classes we've had in awhile.

In 4-5 years we won't be looking at the NFL draft talking about a QB from Memphis being the best prospect, followed up by an Air Raid QB from Cal.

I think you're going to see some very solid college and NFL QBs come from this year's HS class. I'd say it's as deep as it's been since 2008 (Crist, Gabbert, Pryor, Manuel, Luck, Glennon). Last year felt like Rosen and everyone else - by the way, does anyone remember that Gentry was #8 last year? That's not bad. Malzone was #12.

2009 seemed like a good year (Barkley, Murray, Gilbert, Boyd and Russell Shepard who ended up a WR at LSU).

2013 (the year of Shane Morris) had some hype, but no near the depth at the top that this class seems to have in 2016.

I'd say this class in terms of hype, 5* talent, a legitimate HS prospects compares very favorably to '08 and '09. We just have to hope we got the Andrew Luck of the group.

With Eason, Patterson, Costello, Franks, Henry, Peters, Haskins, and Guarantano...you've got 8 quality prospects right at the top. Plus all of the other system QBs that will develop into great talent.

I really believe HS QB's are one of the harder positions to evaluate. So much of their performance is based on how good their receivers are. In this case, he clearly has very good HS wideouts.

That's not to say other positions are not also dependent, RB's and receivers, for instance, but I regress.

Still excited for him

Looks like every snap he took was out of the shotgun. Harbaugh's offense is mixed with a lean toward under center. It can take a while for a QB to adjust to playing under center because precise footwork is required. Obviously we have a coach who knows how to coach the position as well as anyone, but it could make it difficult for Peters to compete for the starting job in year one or two.

So, from what I take from the comments, Peters is good, but we need to temper expectations because he is only playing against Indiana competition, and also has really good receivers that could be propping him up. This makes me wonder... Aren't his receivers Indiana kids as well, in which case, they can't really be propping him up much, as Indiana competition stinks? Now I'm just confused. Go Peters?!?!

WOW.

I saw this a long time ago and it reminds me of how much there is to like about this kid's game.  He is a bit rough, but all of the skills are there...arm...touch...vision...athleticism etc.  He has a well developed lower frame which will suit him well in the transistion to college.  Harbaugh and Fisch will get his game tightened up and he should be challenging for the starting job his redshirt Froshman season.

pretty cool little eye graphic outro ad too

I'll predict that if O'Korn doesn't run away with the starting role that Peters will strongly be in the running for starting QB.

The QB race will be O'Korn, Malzone, and Peters will redshirt as #3.

I'll get even more detailed since this means absolutely nothing...

  1. All of the QBs get a fair shot to win the job this spring.
  2. We finish the spring with: 1. O'Korn, 2a. Malzone, 2b. Morris, 4. Speight, 5a. Peters, 5b. Gentry.
  3. Since he's not the #1 and he's even battling for the #2 spot, Morris elects to transfer after graduating in the spring or summer.
  4. We go through the season: 1. O'Korn, 2. Malzone, 3. Speight, 4. Gentry (who also plays some TE), Peters redshirts.
  5. O'Korn solidifies himself as the starter again in spring of 2017.
  6. Since he's not the #1 or #2 after spring ball, Speight elects to transfer after graduating in the spring or summer.
  7. We enter 2017 1. O'Korn, 2a. Malzone, 2b. Peters, 4. Gentry (who also plays some TE), McCaffrey redshirts.
  8. In 2018, Malzone and Peters (and a RS freshman Dylan McCaffrey) have an absolute war to become the starting QB - best battle we've seen since Gutz, Richard and Henne, Gentry converted to full-time TE. Michigan has 3 legitimate B1G starting QBs. Michigan wins National Championship.

Pretty impressive looking offense for a hs team. Nice touch on the ball. Decent arm. Reminds me a bit of Navarre...except he has wayyyy better wheels.
Hope he's our version of Andrew Luck (no pressure young man if you are reading this;). It's entirely possible with Harbaugh as his coach. Just glad he's goin' Blue!!

I'm waiting for a kid to have some Slayer playing in the background rather than hip-hop.  Whoever does that will forever be my favorite player

His delivery is a tad slow but his touch is impressive. His arm strength looks very good and his deep passes still have some bite when they reach their target. I think Harbaugh found a guy we can really win with here. His competition isn't the best but he also will have never been surrounded by what he is about to be. Interesting to see where we go with the qb spot the next couple of years. We have a B1G title team next year if some freshmen and RS freshmen pan out. Tough to throw a young buck in the saddle off the bat. Gotta figure it will go through Okorn and Speight first if not a stud Transfer. I would hate to see Peters not get a shot his first 3 years though.

on some of the passes, too, but on the short and intermediate throws his delivery looked very quick, especially when he had to fire the ball. To me, that makes the delivery much less likely a worry---Harbaugh and his staff will go to work on it and fix what needs fixing. Overall, Peters otherwise already looks like he's ready to go, once he adjusts to the speed of the college game.

Coach Harbaugh found a keeper here. He looks like he'll do a good job at QB when his time comes but when will that be? Not that I'm rushing O'Korn or anyone else out the door but he might not see playing time until he's a Red Shirt Sophomore! That's a good problem to have though, at the QB position. We've climbed so high already among the college football programs and I have no doubt that we will be banging on the top ten in 2016. It's a great time to be following the Wolverines in football again!

Because unless Peters is the next coming of Joe Montana or something....having a top QB who has had good/great success in college already on the roster in OKorn is gold.   Most of the time, an upperclassman is in a much better position to have an impact on a team than an incoming freshman.

I hope we get a redshirt on him but you never know... What if he's just better than okorn? And that's a real possibility IMO and adding that he's an EE he's going to be pretty comfortable come spring practices so to me it's really up in the air
