Brandon Herron needs surgery on left knee
I have class with Brandon Herron and a couple other players. Herron came to class this morning on crutches with a big knee brace on his left leg. He mentioned that the injury would require surgery and that the doctors told him to expect a 4 to 6 month recovery. The timeframe provided would put him on the bubble for spring practice barring any setbacks. This is a bummer for a young linebacker who could really use the offseason to learn the defensive system and put on some weight.

Now this is the kind of inside information I am talking about. That's too bad for Brandon though. Thanks for the post.

It keeps getting better. I just hope he makes a full recovery. We will need him next year.

IS GOING ON AND HOW CAN WE MAKE IT STOP???

Do you realize what you have done?
I say we bail.

Man you are going to get me fired with comments like that. I just roared at work. Great movie quote.

Never laughed at a post so hard ever on MGOBLOG.

After what I considered a great weekend for my sports fandom I really thought we were on the verge things changing for the positive. We got a commit Friday, My Montreal Canadiens finally played a decent game and won for their 100th anniversary, Florida and USC both lost on Saturday (my two least favorite teams).
I thought things were really looking up......then I woke up and now look......Transfer, more surgeries......Will someone just fucking stick a fork in me, I'm done....Just fucking done

I feel like Mark Ortmann just suckerpunched my junk...

What class was it? Who's the professor?
December 7th, 2009 at 2:26 PM ^
CAAS 200 - Adam Ashforth

you are either a smart enough troll to look up a class he might be taking, or you have class with him...either way this isn't good news.
December 7th, 2009 at 2:26 PM ^
No offense to the OP, and I am not saying that this is not true, but I am always wary of info being provided in these posts by someone who has just recently subscribed. Again, this may be true, but until it is verified, this is still "rumor."
December 7th, 2009 at 2:27 PM ^
I am replying to my own post, but the fact that the OP just provided a class number and prof lends some credibility - starting to worry a bit more now. Couldn't you have been a troll?!?!?!
December 7th, 2009 at 3:06 PM ^
Sorry, I know I havn't been a member for too long but its not as if I want him to be injured either. To be honest, I even considered taking a picture on my phone and uploading it with the post as proof but I thought he might be a little creeped out. :) However, I will say that Greg Banks and Martell Webb were jawwing with him pretty good throughout class, even calling him a pussy when he propped his leg on an extra chair.
December 7th, 2009 at 3:41 PM ^
As you can see, my membership is pretty new, as well (although I have been coming tothis blog daily since the blogspot days). No intent to imply that your info was bad - but, we do get our fair share of assholes who come on and post stuff just to be annoying. Thanks for the report.
Also, if Greg and Martell were calling him a pussy, doesn't that equate to a destruction of family values on the team? Should our players really be using language like that in public? (/sarcasm on this last part).

why is this so hard to believe. The football players are students and do go to class. Its not insane to believe that this poster does in fact have class with brandon herron. I have class with many football players and see many more around campus. Im guessing this rumor is true. Not to mention that the rumor was about brandon herron as opposed to Denard Robinson or Tate. I think this poster would have to be a "Scarlet Troll" the craftiest of the trolls in order to fabricate this one.

if anyone here has any eligibility to play football please go try out...at this point we need as many players as we can get
December 7th, 2009 at 2:46 PM ^
There are over 120 players on the football team, with 25-28 more signing in February along with a collection of walk-ons. I'm not sure why you're issuing a call to arms.
December 7th, 2009 at 4:28 PM ^
We need a call to legs.
Bionic ones, preferably.
December 7th, 2009 at 2:46 PM ^
nothing good is ever going to happen to the football program again. I know, I know, drama queen statement.
December 7th, 2009 at 2:45 PM ^
Um, have I missed something? We're all worried that a backup is having offseason knee surgery and he will be back by the start of fall camp?
I think we're all looking way too hard for something to worry about.
In 1992, I'm pretty sure no one would have worried about the fact that a third-string LB/S who didn't have a position decided to transfer.
Same thing about a backup having a knee scope.
If he can't go in the spring, some other kid (Watson) will get a chance to contribute. Such is football. I feel bad for Herron, but he'll be back for the fall. This does not qualify as news that should register on your emotional scale at all.
December 7th, 2009 at 2:48 PM ^
you see, the defense was so poor this year that we need players who are staying to be involved in as much practice as possible, especially with the lack of a bowl game. providing as much official practices and workouts as possible for the defense is essential. this is definitely something worth feeling 'ugh' about.

You wrote:

I respond:
If he's back by the summer, I completely disagree.
December 7th, 2009 at 2:49 PM ^
but it's the result of repeated and cumulative bad news. Oh, and in 1992, we were going to Rose Bowls so no a knee injury to a backup LB didn't matter as much as it does now.

Herron was second on the depth chart behind Roh and was a Redshirt Soph this last season. All accounts are that he is an amazing athlete and has the potential to be a great asset to the defense. Any time missed/setbacks hurt at this point. Shaw and Mouton both missed most of the offseason/Spring and it could be argued that neither one had as good of a year this year than last.
Herron was 13th on the team in tackles with 20:
58 Herron, Brandon 12 7 13 20 1.0-2 . . . . 1-0 . . .
This is not good news, and yes it does matter.

As long as he's back for summer training and fall practice, he and the team will be fine.
Everyone here is overreacting to an offseason knee injury. Just relax, things will be fine.
Glass half full.

Michigan has 6 returning players that scored rushing touchdowns in 2009 and 8 returning players that scored receiving touchdowns in 2009.
Lots of weapons returning next year. Hopefully that translates to about 35-39 points scored per game.

That guy is going to be a true sophomore in 2010.
The guy backing him up is the #1 quarterback recruit in the class of 2010.
Do you need more good news?
Lewan
Omameh
Molk
Quentin Washington
Je'Ron Stokes
Tay Odoms
Roundtree
Shaw
Toussaint
Hemingway
Stonum
Big Will Campbell
Mike Martin
Craig Roh
JT Turner
Emilien
and the incoming recruits.
Feel any better?

Big fan of Quentin Washington. I think he'll do great things next year.
December 7th, 2009 at 7:42 PM ^
There's someone missing from your list. Heard he's kind of a big deal, can throw the ball and such.
In other news, if someone runs well up the middle on us next year with Campbell and Martin being absolute beasts, I will be shocked.

the hits keep coming. V. Smith, B. Smith, Herron, a yet-to-be named player in legal trouble.
I haven't seen Rich Rod's forehead in a while ... is it beet red from constant facepalms / violent slamming on his desk?
December 7th, 2009 at 6:12 PM ^
Did I miss something? What "hit" has he taken?
December 7th, 2009 at 7:21 PM ^
He tore his ACL.

All is well, no reaon to panic, all is well.

It's the offseason for a college football team. What kind of good news do you want? It's not like Ohio State just reached a free agent deal with Peyton Manning and USC is accepting a transfer from Dick Butkus.
It is the offseason, and only bad things will be reported in the offseason. Even if Craig Roh has raised his bench press from 280 to 475 lbs. in the last couple weeks, that's not something that is ever reported in the offseason.
Relax.
Florida lost out on the BCS championship game, they're losing Tebow, and Carlos Dunlap is a drunkard. You think Florida fans aren't saying "We need some good news right now"? Notre Dame lost Charlie Weis, Clausen, and Golden Tate and they just realized that their leprechaun mascot is gay; they're probably saying the same thing.
(I might have made up the whole Leprechaun = gay thing, but my friend's uncle's barber saw him at the Necto over Thanksgiving break.)
December 7th, 2009 at 6:28 PM ^
losing Weis would be good news if I were a ND fan.
Just sayin.

sucks for brandon, but this really doesnt impact our plans going into next season at all.
