Brandin Hawthorne: Redshirt

Submitted by Smitty D on
I know some people were wondering if Brandin was redshirted. Per Rivals Keep an eye on linebacker Brandin Hawthorne too. The Pahokee, Fla., native saw some time in 2009 on special teams but not enough to lose his redshirt eligibility. He will begin the spring competing with classmate Mike Jones to replace Steve Brown at spinner. "I think he'll play the position that Steve Brown is leaving, and if he can understand the defense - because he's so young - he could be exactly what our team needs," fifth-year senior wide receiver LaTerryal Savoy said. "He's very aggressive and very physical, loves to hit players, and we need more people like that. I think he'll make a lot of big plays." I think most of us on the board, thought he could not redshirt but I guess not. Good for us

Sit out the entire season OR play in less than 30% of your team's games, none of which can be in the second half of the season, and then appeal to the NCAA for a medical redshirt due to an injury or illness That article says that he kept his redshirt "eligibility" - as in he can still appeal for a redshirt. He is not automatically guaranteed a redshirt because he played in some of last year's games. For a similar situation, refer to Junior Hemingway's 2008 season, for which he was given a medical redshirt.

- Hey look at me, I'm a little teapot. I'll run right up your dress! - Get out the checkbook and pay Grandma for the rubdown. - Yeah! In action late last night, Sonics vs. Utah, John Stockton says, "Hey, look at me - I'm a little teapot, I'll run right up your dress!" But then, Olden Polynice says, "I'm not gonna pay a lot for this muffler!" But then Karl Malone says, "Sweet Sassy Molassey! You are gonna pay a lot! And the cost is gonna be prohibitive!" Ray Romano on SNL parodying SC sportscasters. Great stuff Here's the transcript from that skit: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/98/98osportscenter.phtml
