Branden Dawson has a torn ACL

Submitted by BlockM on

Brutal news. Hope he recovers as quickly as possible.

This could have huge ramifications in the B1G and NCAA tourneys as well.

Thats tough to recover 100 percent from. He has a ton of potential and i believe he is true fresh with a redshirt left. Being so young, he will be able to take his time recovering.

though I would say he is 95% to make a full recovery. It will be a lot of rehab (before and after surgery) but he could be stronger than before. Although you obviously never want this injury, this could improve his overall game. When I tore my ACL, I was able to improve my shooting and also the cerebral part of the game, having to sit and watch basketball up close he will gain insight into tendencies, etc. Wish him the best.

That sucks to hear, but if any squad can absorb it, it's MSU with their depth and Izzo's March experience (as much as that pains me to say)  Hopefully he's OK and makes a full recovery for next year.

Tough loss - wish him the best in his recovery.  Rivalries are great, but I never want to see a player suffer through such an injury.

If they get on the surgery and rehab now, hopefully he's back for a significant portion of next year.  MSU has all kinds of depth though, they'll always be alright.  Tough for the kid though.  Instead of a summer of working on your game, you get a summer of rehab... or, as some say, working on the "mental" aspects of the game.

Too bad.   That could def hurt the Big Ten's chances of getting teams into the third round and beyond.

I was really hoping it would be like with Draymond where he just had a sprain or something.  An ACL tear is just horrible news.  I wish him all the best in his recovery and look forward to seeing him on the court again.

That is sad news. I saw the play where he went down hard in obvious pain and did not return for the second half. I hope he makes a full recovery.

May you have a speedy and full recovery.

Feel beter and I hope to see you on the court again as soon as possible.

At the end if the day this is just a game. Nobody should suffer for playing hard.

I would have to think this situation means a redshirt year next year for Dawson.   Feel for the guy...he would have been a huge part of their offensive attack next year.   He's such a freak athlete, too.   I hope the surgery and rehab get him back to near-normal.  I was really looking forward to future match-ups with THJ, GRIII, etc.

It reminded me of our win against MSU. Didn't Green go down oddly late in that game? This looked liked they knocked knees, and so did Green's. I hope for a complete and speedy recovery for him.

I expected most everyone to be very sympathetic, but I still thought there was going to be a least that one guy who would say something stupid like "good, glad we don't have to deal with him".  But I don't see anybody doing that.  Other fan bases can make fun of us, but at least we don't wish any harm on other players

Hopefully he does heal fully and still is able to get set for next year, he really does have a bright future

I never like seeing a college athete go down but im sorry, all i could think of was how sparty was screaming at Robbie Hummel about his knee. So much that even Izzo went off on his fanbase. Funny how quickly the ole "red cedar meltdown board" forgets that. But god forbid 1 of their own goes down.

That sucks for Dawson. Hopefully he can return fully healthy.

But it is funny to see all the MSU fans attacking anyone, especially purdue fan who say anything about this when their own coach had to call out their student section for ridiculing Hummel about his injuries.

I had an ACL reconstruction last year, and it took about 6 months to be fully normal again (not thinking about the knee). A young athlete with all the rehab facilities at his disposal and he won't miss a beat. Remember our kicker Hayden Epstein tore his ACL in the offseason and was back in time to kick off in September a few years ago?

While I'm nowhere near the caliber of world class athletes like Dawson, six months is pretty standard to come back with a standard of 3 days a week rehab. If you're working out with great doctors / trainers like at State or Michigan or similar program, have to guess that he'd be ready for next year unless it's a complicated surgery (i.e. meniscus repair and other ligaments in addition to the ACL)
