so much for that
Brady Hoke is a phenomenal recruiter
Wellllllll, it's about those seniors. Those 115 guys. They're like our sons. And we as coaches, we gotta do a better job. But we're getting there. Because it's Michigan, for God sakes.
God I love Brady Hoke.
Full-on Decatur Clan. Whatever happens, GO BLUE!
Regarding the OP's question, could someone with Knowledge shed light on how good the '98 class was? I remember at the time being astonished at how many great players were in it, and coming off of '97 it looked like Michigan was set up for a fantastic run of excellence. Never quite materialized, but the class was good. How good was it?

I'm really excited about Green going Blue. Not only because he's a great prospect but I think this solidifies Hoke's recruiting prowess. Back to back top 10 classes and pulling the #1 back in the country away from the SEC definitely puts us in a position to start being mentioned again as a national recruiting powerhouse, now we just need the wins!
We'll have to wait and see of course how this recruiting class pans out over the next 4-5 years but there are few really exciting prospects in this class (Shane, Dymonte, Derrick, the whole damn o-line). As for the '98 class it was only comprised of 19 recruits total. But of the 19 a whopping 12 of them were drafted or signed as a free agent in the NFL, no particular order:
Julius Curry
Hayden Epstein
Larry Foote
Victor Hobson
Bennie Joppru
Cato June
Shawn Lazarus
Dan Rumishak
Marquise Walker
Justin Fargas
Drew Henson
Dave Terrell
I'm here for the same reason...
but in 2012 Hoke was filling his first class true class and could use playing time and renewal of the program as a selling point. For 2013 we got out in front early and alot of commits came onin the midst/immediately after an 11-2 Sugar Bowl season. We got off to a very early start in filling these classes as well.
Hoke has more than proven himself as a top notch recruiter but 2014 will really test his resolve. With Urban coming off a 12-0 season at OSU and Mich coming only winning 8 games, we'll really see if this can sustain itself. If Brady can pull in the 5-15 range in 2014 I'll be more impressed than the top 5 classes of 2012 and 2013.
Anyway.... great day to be a wolverine

the man is absolutely massive in this shot and can hardly be recognized if you only saw him at today's size
He's got the mf'ing eye of the tiger.

Damn i get giddy thinking about our offensive line and backfield when I look at this post. Then, I remember the haul we had in 2012 and my joy cannot be contained.
HAIL!
Out there still question the hiring of Hoke?
Thanks Mr. Brandon, job well done.
I loved the Rich Rod hire and was on the fence about Hoke. However, Hoke's opening press conference was a piece of art, and I've been hooked ever since.

I love how the OSU trash still think that we've just gotten all the recruits Meyer didn't want. I'd find it hard to believe they wouldn't want Dymonte, Bosch, Kugler, Dawson, Poggi, Green, McCray, and a whole host of others. The talent level of this class speaks for itself.
It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk
I don't know if I would say Michigan has gotten the scraps that Meyer didn't want but when you run two different style of offenses Pro vs. Spread and defense, you're going to aquire talent on different ends to fit the system you want. Some players fit that philisophy and others don't. I'm not sure if Michigan is recruiting for speed either but that also seems to be a huge factor in what Meyer is going for as well. Some student athletes get recruited by one team but if they were recruited by both OSU & UM and one gets the best of each other, remain calm and recruit on! Ratings and stars don't mean nearly as much as coaching does (see Wisconsin) since that is a huge factor of success. I respect what Hoke has done and who he has recruited but in no way should one be envious of who committs where and the players one team gets.
Hello Charles Woodson, now give me the ball on offense. - Brent Musburger
Very good point the assistants play a major role in recruiting and Coach Hecklinski is the recruiting coordinator, so alot falls on him. If anything is true of our last two classes, it's that the assistants have done an outstanding job, and Coach Hoke has done a great job surrounding himself with a capable and dedicated staff.

I don't care about anything other then beating ohio regularly and making the rosé bowl our second home.
There is god, there is family, and then there is MICHIGAN FOOTBALL
How many scholarships does Michigan still have to offer recruits before signing day arrives?
Hello Charles Woodson, now give me the ball on offense. - Brent Musburger
Michigan might be able to bring in one more guy, but no more than that.
I wonder if this will be the TE from TX or will there be a big signing day surprise, like a WR?
Overall Hoke and his coaches have done a fantastic job over these past two years. Wow, if he keeps recruiting like this we will soon be one of the top teams in the land!
expect the best
I don't think Smythe is going to come to Michigan.
Let's give credit to the whole staff. It's the other coaches that create the bonds. Fred Jackson had a tremendous if not more important impact on Green from what I have heard. Credit Sam Webb.

Much agreed. It's incredible and anyone who disagrees imo is blind.
