you would do a lot worse things for ten million dollars.
Niko Porikos grew up in an NTDP billet home. Cool story.
you would do a lot worse things for ten million dollars.
I love Michigan Football, but if I had $10M to donate, it would go nowhere near the program.
It would actually all go to inner-city schools/disadvantaged students of some kind, but regardless, there's many many better places to donate $10M to.
I'm sure he donates elsewhere.
He needs to take a dump.
Dave Brandon gonna brand.
I've always tried to imagine just how much money you'd have to have to decide you didnt need 10 million of it. And how do you arrive at that number anyways? Was their a negottation that went on? "For 2 Million you can name the hockey coach, for 5 Milion you get basketball and for 10 million you get the crown jewel - football?" And do the offer a package deal - buy all three for only 15 million - it's like getting hockey for free!"
The mind reels.
I am willing to change my name for $10,000, as long as its nothing embarrassing. I'll change my username for a $100 dollar donation to a worthy cause.
The Human Fund thanks you, Mr. Dick Fuck Jibbly Butts.
Still love Ass Shit McButt-Fart.
That is $10 million less that the athletic department needs to fleece from the unwashed average alum/ticket holder like me! My wallet thanks you.
They will still take that too
While I find this a little strange, I'm not against it. But when Dave Brandon offers an explanation, I want to hear him say "imma not a business man, imma business, mannnnn." Then cackle gleefully.
Let him handle his business, damn.
"I am not running the Michigan football program."
If I was the one donating millions, when they asked my name, I would say "Anonymous."
Hasn't Stanford had there head football coach endowed since the 90s? Don't see the big deal with this.
and I have a horrible feeling that the worst is yet to come. . .I can't even imagine what it is, but it's coming. . .
That's crazy! I have a great feeling the best is yet to come. I can't imagine what it is, but it's coming.
What's becoming absurd is all the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing that goes on around here.
I'm failing to see why this matters. Like at all.
If all this shit meant cheaper tickets, I'd be all for it. Sadly, the opposite will probably happen.
This is my issue. I'd love to see that the "extra" 10 million (or at least the interest off it that the AD no longer needs) go back to the UM general fund or for scholarships.
Signs of the apocalypse, this....
"We are (Taco Bell Grande) Michigan."
They can call him the Wizard of freaking Oz as long as he starts beating Sparty and OSU.
Aren't these honors usually for people that have earned them (research, teaching, advancing the profession, etc)? Does a football coach seem to fall into that category? Serious question and I am not being critical. We say that being head coach at this university is prestigious and an honor, but is it the same level as people in academia and medicine? Just odd, but I do not care either way. Looking for more info and perspective.
Yes. It is. If you think about the amount of time/work/dedication to your work that it takes to become head coach at Michigan vs what it would take to become head surgeon at UM medical center, or something like that, they are about the same
shit that will make me cancel my football tickets.
who ever said "this is Michigan fergodsakes"? If this happens, that statement will be translated to the language of Brandon to mean "we are a bunch of whores".
I plan to endow a drinking fountain in Schembechler Hall if I can scrape up enough cash.
This thread is proof that some people will find a reason to bitch about anything.
I can't wait for an Ohio State alum to give more for the Woody Hayes head football coach.
Could DB turn that down?
Now are the TV announcers, the ESPN talking heads, the Doug Karsh's of the world obligated to say that before they mention Brady Hoke? Please no. No.
How many times have you heard Dave Brandon referred to as the "Donald R Shepherd Director of Athletics, Dave Brandon?
Many times, in fact.
Why does they're always have to be stipulations from the rich to get their money? Make the monkeys dance for their dollars.
To me, I just find really cheesy and don't really see what it's purpose is other than to whore out for more cash. It's stories like this that give me a sick feeling about where college athletics are and where they are headed. Next thing will be some donors name on the backs of the jerseys instead of the players.
I'm pumped for Fred Jackson to be the "Coke Zero Running Backs Coach Brought To You By Buffalo Wild Wings And Stephen Ross" a few years down the road.
If Hoke takes care of business against Stae, Ohio and the Domers next year can we all agree he was well endowed?
of this great university. It's an absolute joke to name a football coach anything but a football coach. Keep your stupid money. You've got enough of mine to cover expenses without me wanting my name plastered all over everything. Who sits around and thinks this stuff up. I can't wait for the first broadcaster to use this title when talking about Hoke and thus making Michigan the laughing stock of college football. It's bad enough to do this if we were 11-2 but after what we've endured the last few years this is pitiful. One step closer to having advertising in the stadium. Maybe the Michigan GoBlue Club banner will have names on it after this. I can't believe I'm reading this. Someone at the University has to say no to the money bags regardless of their requests or get Brandon under control if this was his idea. Either way this is a joke.
List of BCS conference teams with endowed coaching positions:
Actively seeking someone to endow the position:
As stated above, pretty much every Ivy League football job is endowed (and the lone holdout is Brown after removing Joe Paterno from the title) and so are many of their coaches in other sports.
The over/under for this getting mentioned on a broadcast after 2014 is in the range of one time per year.
Why let facts get in the way if a good narrative? Brandon could cure cancer, AIDS, solve world hunger, and stop the use of child soldiers and people on this blog would still complain. This being endowed means the money freed up can be used for other sports. It's a good thing.
I am fairly sure that those not happy with him for this decision would be pretty thrilled if he cured cancer.
I don't give a shit if Stanford does it. This is ridiculous.
I believe that the official title of the OC at Stanford is The Andrew Luck Director of Offense or something similar to that. Michigan is not the first school to do this.
Eagerly soliciting millions of dollars from creepy uber-wealthy people who look like they're out of a "Law & Order" episode so that they can attach their name like a parasitic remora to the same position that Yost, Crisler, and Schembechler occupied is apparently totally fine and not at all humiliating and is a smart exploitation of a business opportunity.
Yet having a mascot is a horrible, tradition-sodomizing atrocity that will drain the very life and meaning and manly-juices out of Michigan football because tradition.
to my alma mater without demanding that their name be plastered all over the fucking building and letterhead is the first time I'll truly be impressed by their generosity.
we should all get together, do a kickstarter (but use other people's passwords), and buy some position coaches..
how bout the Snoopy and Woodstock offensive lineman... or the Ultimate Warrior memorial linebackers coach...
I realize that other institutions do it (Stanford), but uh its still lame as hell.
Also, conspiracy hats and secret society coats on:
