Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Bowl Selection Shows Open Thread
Thanks for ruining it for everyone!!
Will Heather Cocks be there?
I would watch this if they weren't gonna talk about Notre Dame the whole time.
wooo ! we get to beat a top 10 team!
Beat the 'cocks BLUE!
Anyone think he'll ever get the Wolfpack to the BCS?
Apparently he is going to stay and coach the bowl game. Edit: Maybe not.
He's not going to be with them for the bowl game. Their QB didn't correct them.
Clemson at 14? What have they done this season that is so impressive?
Northern Illinois is unimpressive as well, hadn't even heard of them this season until 2 weeks ago. They lost to Iowa and beat Kansas by only seven points. Hell, you could make an argument that Purdue is more deserving of a BCS spot.
Only 2 losses, I guess? Hey they beat auburn....
That's all I got.
I hope northern Illinois beats the shit out of Florida state.
And I hope I get Dolly Parton for Christmas; it isn't going to happen. Northern Illinois won't even have a real head coach for the game.
So how long will it take until the Cocks jokes are no longer funny around here?
Ok never mind, we still talk about Mike Cox
MGoBlog: where jokes go to (never) die
eating apples during the entire duration of that game.
Might have to eat 4th quarter apples in the bathroom after throwing up 2nd quarter apples. That's a lot of apples!
that'll show Discover!
That game is gonna be a gigantic steaming road apple
over NIU, laughable, this is the system you bestowed us with...so glad this crap will end in 2 years
I'm just sad that NIU gives its location in its name. I think it would've been quite the chuckle to listen to Southerners / Left Coast folks try to figure out where Kent State was.
In the new system, the highest ranked conference champion of the Big East, MWC, CUSA, Sun Belt, and MAC get an auto-bid to one of the six bowls.
The only thing that would have changed is that two other teams would have been included. Someone still would have had to played NIU
OK, I'm an idiot and I just took one quick look at the BCS rankings and considered a few things like conferences and if they played each other before and made this lineup. Why can't we come up with a lineup like this? It would be so much more entertaining.
#1 Notre Dame vs #2 Alabama
#4 Florida vs #5 Oregon
#3 Georgia vs #6 K-State
#7 LSU vs #8 Stanford
#9 Texas A&M vs #11 Oklahoma
#10 South Carolina vs #13 FSU
#12 Nebraska vs #14 Clemson
#15 Oregon St vs #18 Texas
#16 UCLA vs #19 Michigan
I found the flaw--that makes way too much sense.
No, no, no. You're doing it all wrong. That system makes sense. If there is one thing we've come to know about college football is that nothing is allowed to make sense. If something would appear simple, it must be confused. If a conference features schools in geographically sensible states, it must add schools at random. If a recruit appears to be a perfect fit for a school, he must choose the opposite. If an administrator states that he is looking out for competetive balance and tradition, he must only seek money and notoriety.
Why in the world they split this show into two half hour blocks?
I know the weekly program is 30 mins, maybe some sort of contractual requirement regarding that.
Question: Does anyone know who the last unranked team to play in the Rose Bowl was? I have no clue.
In 15 years Wisconsin only 4th unranked BCS team to earn BCS bowl berth. 3 of 4 got automatic bids to Rose Bowl

Answered my question: 1984 UCLA. They were 6-4-1, but were 6-1-1 in the conference. They ended up beating #9 Illinois by 36.
you know how cute they like to be, what, with the camera angles and showing the crowd while the play is going on.
They are too cool for school man, you gotta know that by now.
David Pollack with racist comment of the day with a reference to Denard in a comment about niu's qb, "looks a little different than him too"
I see nothing in that statement that expressed racial superiority or disdain for another ethnic group.
no I just hate David Pollack.
sorta hurhur way. Get's everyone's antennae up ABOUT race, but can't be accused of racISM. Old, tired trope of people generally uncomfortable about the whole mess but not capable of surrmounting their discomfort with insight. There's a lot of it around. Aherm.
Because no one knows if those teams are really the best, since they only play each other. Force everyone to play tough out of conference games and then you can just put in the "best" teams.
Just thinking of it again now, and as a disclaimer, I fully understand what these two schools did are very bad. But does anyone find it strange that the two schools suffering the most from NCAA sanctions are in the Big Ten? They both brought it upon themselves (in different ways), but I find it surprising that, apparently, the two worst "offenders" in college football are in the same division in college football, while, who else... USC.... has even minor sanctions against them? Just very bizarre that the NCAA saw smoke in the Big Ten and came down excessively (in the football sense) in one case and relatively hard in the other, while I can list off a variety of other programs which have been smoking and smoldering for years with minimal consequences. UNC has basically been home-schooling its athletes (and by that I mean they stay at home while they get A's in their classes), Miami has been basically run by outside nefarious individuals for decades, Oregon has shown obvious signs of problems, Auburn buys... I mean recruits... one player and has its only success in a decade, and nothing!
I'm not saying there is some sort of conspiracy, but what is the situation? Were the Big Ten schools too forthcoming?
Herm, what do you think about Michigan having a chance to trot out another special uniform?
Michigan may consider designing a special bowl game jersey if the opportunity presents itself. However, a final determination will be made later in the year.
Wear purple for all I care. College football is going to hell in a handbasket anyways.
Pretty soon it will be a game of two-hand touch grab-ass between Michigan and some garbage school with a television market, played in front of 15,000 East Coast tea drinkers with sparkles and fur on the uniforms, strip-teasers on the sidelines and rap stars yelling into microphones at the "fans".
Can I nominate this for post of the year?
I am for the strippers. when does that start?
I love this guy.
I will leave my wife for you herm <3 no homo
I've literally been watching this gif for about 16 minutes straight.
See Homeland this is what you do to me!!!!! Damn you Carrie!!!!!!
Not to defend the NCAA, which has let some programs get away with murder, but I would say Ohio State got off light, directly compatred to USC. I think Ohio State deserved worse. Then again, I think USC deserved worse as well. And Miami still has yet to get hit, with people assuming they'll get hit hard.
patience is a virtue. miami and unc will get theirs.
the rest of this garbage is perverting the game.
These are the worst BCS match ups ever.
Only two good games. Oregon v ksu and nd v alabama. Rest are crap.
for about a quarter.
just seems that every year the disappointment in these match ups grows bigger, so sad that we have to be subjected to some of these lame games.
M v SCar is interesting and some of the other non BCS Bowls are as well, way more than NIU v FSU or Fla v L'Ville, boring as hell
But, this bowl lineup has just pushed me to desire a 16 team playoff. I never wanted this before and struggled to hold onto traditional tie-ins, namely the Rose Bowl and B1G/Pac 12 matchup. But, it's already ruined half the time anyways, so we mind as well just go to a playoff. It would be more entertaining at this point.
Last night Bama looked very beatable. UGA came up, what, 5 yards short at the end? Notre Dame seems to match up very favorably with Bama. In my opinion anyway. They are both based around defense, physical line play, and running the ball. With that being said, we have 19 more days to see if the Mayans were right. If they are we won't have to choose between the two.
They looked beatable when playing a team like Georgia with a stud Rb and a QB who is a threat to throw the ball down the field which causes the defense to decide where they want to focus. ND doens't have either one of those.
Time to get your tickets for the Orange Bowl!!! FSU Vs. Northern Illinois!
Chips to the Little Ceasar's Bowl. NIU to Orange Bowl opened up the spot. Not exactly a banner year for the Chips, but they have a shot at a winning season.
looking forward to KSU/Oreg and that is about it for BCS, I could careless about the title game seeing as how the media will completely be unbearable for either team.
As far as non BCS bowls....those look a lot more interesting and I might be the only one but I think the B1G does better than people think it will. I could see UM, Sparty, NW, NEB all winning.
I figure Georgia will be down like they were last year, the Sparty D should handle TCU, NW has a legit shot at Miss St and I believe Mattison can do enough to save Borges from blowing it against Carolina.
are MSU(stretch considering their craptastic offense) and NW. Michigan has a tough matchup against an excellent SC defense. Nebraska will get killed by UGA. If Wisconsin can run all over them, UGA will be able to do the same and their defense is better.
The most optimistic record for B1G would be 3-3 and the realistic record would be 1 win but 0 win is very possible.
With a locally and nationally interesting match up against the Sooners.
I'll watch that.
Jerruh is going to have the Cotton Bowl back to major bowl status within five years.
Talking Michigan now.
Louisiana Tech not going to a bowl is some bullshit
Apparently they turned down an invite to the Independence Bowl. Depending on what you read, they did so because they thought a more prestigious invite was still available, and/or because they did not want to play UL-Monroe, who was a big rival of LA Tech back when the two schools were still 1-AA members.
Bizarre all the same.
Espn giving Michigan hell. Will be a repeat of the bama game.
Honk honk bozos
the show is much more tolerable if you mute it when Pollack is talking
I hope the team just listened to the castration of our team that the espn commentators just laid out there. Jolts predicts Bama part deux. May says we can't play against real defenses. Pollack and the bachelor gave each other sec massages too. Oh my. No longer meh now. Lets go blue!
May kind of has a point. Against good defenses our Offense has done diddly-squat
I generally think May has his head screwed-on pretty straight (maybe just because he's always sitting next to Holtz). And like you said: man has a point. We have not once moved the ball against a sturdy defense, Hopefully our defense can compensate, though.
I think if we win it's gonna be like the Sugar Bowl. Where we pull it off in spite of our offense, but with strong D and special teams play
I would tend to agree....
One problem, though, last year I tended to think we got the better of special teams (lots of turnovers, mostly). But Now I think it's a weakness. Aside from FGs, I think our returns and return coverage are abysmal. I don't know how to account for that. Also, I think our big play potential without Hemingway is worse, but who knows? If Denard can replace him with some big plays, we could get the coupke of TDs we need.
at the Chikin Sammich Bowl. Lovely.
As much as I'm disappointed with the B1G - ESS EEE SEE tie-ins for the second-tier New Year's Day bowls, I grieve for the entire city of Atlanta for having to host an ESS EEE SEE/basketball conference match-up year after year. So damned provincial, such awful football.
La Tech got screwed
Hey guess what'? I'm excited to watch most of the bowl games...except the BCS games!
So they're all on South Carolina huh? I love it.
Holtz and Pollack should get a room.
What a surprise! They said nice things about us for about 45 seconds followed by 5 minutes of them spewing on and on about South Carolina and why we're going to get pounded.
God have mercy on Nebraska
Sane folks (non Irish) declare ND is a weak 12-0 after luck saved 3-4 games. The B1G champ is 8-5, 2nd place had 3 losses and PSU managed 8 wins. OSU went 12-0 and FL is 11-1 after 6-6 seasons last year. Preseason #1 USC is 7-5. Ark was preseason #7 preseason and imploded. A frosh QB and LB are leaders for the Heisman.
Utter craziness and minimal quality play.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Lewan. I mean, he's supposed to be a first rounder, no?
Because Clowney is a top 10 pick as well. Should but a key matchup and an NFL scouts dream.
Point blank, it should never come down to one game --- BUT in this case, Lewan's going to get an NFL calibur player for 60 minutes...man to man. If he holds up, I say go. If Clowney has a good game, I think Lewan should come back.
I just think this game his going to impact his draft stock more than any other single game of his career.
If he is a first rounder it would hard to stay, period. Too many risks.
I see Herm's telegram is working properly tonight.
I'm pretty excited for the bowls this year. I think we got a winnable match up with SCarolina, but I think Clowney might have a field day with our OL...
On another note, I recently moved to PHX, and I"ll be going to my first bowl game ever - Fiesta Bowl woohoo!! (i know cool story bro). I'm pretty stoked for the KSU/Oregon match up. I think it might be the best bowl game this year, and could be consider the MNC game sorta...
I'm considering going to the BW3 bowl since its I think Sparty vs TCU is intriguing as well. I'm thinking tix will be on the cheap the day of...
Putting my 35 confidence points on Oklahoma State
Sparty goes to the prestigious buffalo wild wings bowl against TCU.
I love BWW. Going to be there for sure plowing through some Asian Zing boneless wings and washing them down with tall boys in my modified frog outfit that has horns. Can't wait!
Okay I'm pretty sure it's official that Mark May hates Ohio! That was hilarious!
It makes me happy to know that a MAC team has been to a BCS game before MSU.
wondering if a new season of Deadliest Catch or Ice Road Truckers will be available for alternate viewing enjoyment....
... And you'll be watching sister wives reruns by halftime.
Lynch is an exciting QB to watch, so I assume you've never seen him play.
Herbstreit made quite a fool of himself complaining about N.Illinois being included. I guess Lynch took the highroad and didn't tell him off (though there is video of Lynch throwing an orange at the tv while watching Herbstreit flip out) Herbstreit might want to realize that under the playoff system they also would have gotten into one of the contract bowls. Herbstreit said "Thank goodness we are going toward a new system" (way to do your research) Also they aren't even the biggest underdog. Louisville and ND are both bigger dogs.
to fall victim to the ESPN/SEC propoganda machine. I once found him honest and forthright about his view of the college football landscape. He is now just a corporate schill yes man toeing the company line.
Is because ESPN's ratings just tanked for the game.
Yeah, he's gotten a bit ahead of himself recently. He's complaining about N. Illinois despite the fact that teams like Wiscy and Louisville are in this year, and in years past "weaker" squads have gotten in as well. That's part of the deal with the BCS.
And for all the talk about the elite SEC this year, I just don't see the dominance. What I do see are a bunch of teams that were highly ranked beat each other every week, so that no one ever falls too far because they have "marquee" wins against other ranked programs. But the only two decent teams any of the top programs played out of conference are a 7-5 Washington and Florida State, which is one of those "name" programs that hasn't been nearly as good as their recruiting and hype for over a decade. I mean, Wisconsin has a better win out of conference with Utah St. than some of these clubs.
