Bowl Games Open Thread (non-Michigan)
There are already a bunch of threads, and more to come, on Michigan's Match-up in the Gator. But I thought we could use a catch all to discuss the other games, BCS games, Big Ten Games, and other Bowl Games of interest, so we don't get a new thread every time a bowl match up leaks. And through the Bowl Game Announcement shows on ESPN in about an hour. (One of the other threads already says it's OSU/Arkansas). So if you hear anything, read anything, or have a reaction to anything after it's announced, let's discuss.

I heard someone knock over a trash can outside. But it's probably just a raccoon.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
The raccoon or the trash can?
December 5th, 2010 at 7:20 PM ^
i pick Michigan St
December 5th, 2010 at 7:31 PM ^
So have they set the trash can on fire yet?
December 5th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
WAS the trashcan...

Notre Dame and Miami in the Sun Bowl. The Hyundai Sun Bowl, in fact.

Hey-o!
December 5th, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
Wasn't that an episode of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge?
December 5th, 2010 at 7:11 PM ^
I will take the raccoon. His garbage can is too young to defend itself. In a year though I will take the garbage can as it will be ready.
December 5th, 2010 at 10:00 PM ^
In spite of the look of rage, the raccoon has mastered, I think the trash can is just to tough, however, after a year of battering, and, a year of growth and development, the stronger more mature raccoon with the aid of additional practice time with those posable thumbs, well, I like the chances of the raccoon in a rematch!

The Outback Bowl has PSU-Florida. That game should get pretty good ratings based on the reputations of those programs more than their teams this year. I'm pretty sure its on at the same time as the Michigan, so I won't be watching it. I think Iowa is locked into the Insight Bowl where they could be facing Nebraska, which would be an interesting matchup between our soon to be divisional rivals.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
Everything I'm reading is saying Iowa- Mizzou in the Insight. Apparently they don't want the game to be all "about " the big ten. This is just what I've read so take it with a grain of salt until it's announced officially.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
I don't really understand their reasoning because I'd guess that Nebraska would draw better ratings and a better turnout, in addition to probably being the better team.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:32 PM ^
If anyone cares, Toledo and Florida International will play in the bowl game at Ford Field.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
Isn't that sort of a 'home game' for the FIU team?
December 5th, 2010 at 7:32 PM ^
Any news on Sparty?
December 5th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
They are pretty much locked into the Capital One Bowl against an SEC team that will proceed to destroy Sparty.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
You won't hear anything until they announce the BCS rankings at 815. Sparty is waiting to accept a Capital One bowl bid just in case they are able to somehow get a BCS bid, although this is incredibly unlikely.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
I saw that Huge said that it was going to probably be Bama, which I think is probably correct however he has certainly been wrong before.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:02 PM ^
That'll be a bloodbath if Bama comes in ready to play. MSU isn't in that league.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
Saban faces-off with his old team. He should absolutely crush them. It'll be a lot of fun to watch.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:19 PM ^
...as it is more or less at the same time as the Gator Bowl it'll be even more fun to not watch!
December 5th, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
December 5th, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
They're the one who got jilted/screwed out of a BCS Bowl. Bama has the motivation to prove they are better than they've shown. I'd say it's more Jan 1 Michigan-USC than Utah-Bama.

December 5th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
You are being optimistic because the only chance Sparty has to beat Alabama is if they do not get up for this game. Unfortunately for you, I don't think Alabama has to get up much for this game. The team that lost a squeaker to Auburn is not going to have much trouble against the team that won a squeaker against Purdue.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:08 AM ^
It would be matched up with TCU in the ROSE Bowl. Sure, Alabama is better than getting stuck with, say Mississippi State, for excitement value, but going to the Cap 1 again isn't the same thing as the Rose for the first time in 23 years. Or any BCS Bowl, ever.
And having Mark May agree with you is not a real backing up of your argument....
December 5th, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
This is Sparty's best season in 50 years, 11-1, and they are going to the Capital One bowl where an 8-4 Michigan team made it in back in 2007/08.
One can almost feel sorry for them, almost, but not really.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:46 PM ^
Sparty vs LSU or Alabama would be great.
December 5th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
Even the bowl committees hate Sparty
No BCS bowl plus they get to play Bama (their worst nightmare) in the bowl they do make.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
I would love to see OSU vs. Stanford in a BCS game....
December 5th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Utah vs. Boise State
How the mighty have fallen.
December 5th, 2010 at 7:59 PM ^
Best reason for Peterson to move on. His teams have to shoot the moon or they go to Vegas. Curfew will be fun to enforce there.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:00 PM ^
OSU vs. Arkansas... not sure if confirmed.
I hope Mallett bombs OSU into Bolivian.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
It counts as a victory for Michigan if a once-michigan-qb beats OSU, right? Right?! RIGHTTTT?!
December 5th, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
for Mallett. Undisciplined quarterback versus disciplined defense equal comfortable Buckeye win.

<br>34-24 OSU.
December 5th, 2010 at 9:03 PM ^
It's a good match-up for OSU. Maybe the best they could have outside the ACC/Big East dregs. I actually think Bama would be a scarier match-up for them.
December 5th, 2010 at 10:13 PM ^
the real question is if the Ark recievers can get off the coverage, not because tosu corneres are that good, but therir speed isn't bad, and the Ark receivers catch the best in space..in tight coverage? Well.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
OSU is marketed as some kind of powerhouse. Sure they've dominated the Indianas and the Purdues, but they haven't done much else. MSU (a team that gets laughed at for their soft schedule) has more victories on the road against bowl teams than OSU does. Frankly, I think Arkansas gives them a lot of trouble and comes away with it.
December 5th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
into where?
December 5th, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
I hope Mallet bombs OSU into Bolivian
It's an MGoBoard-meme spelling of oblivian. It came a while back when somebody said they would be "negged into bolivian [sic]". A typo turned endless enjoyment.

December 5th, 2010 at 8:34 PM ^
Alabama is going to annihilate MSU. I cannot wait to watch it go down.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:49 PM ^
Can't say those Bowl commisioners don't like a good plot line. I laughed out loud seeing that matchup.
December 5th, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
are freaking out about this matchup because they think that Bama is going to kick their ass in the bowl game.
December 5th, 2010 at 10:48 PM ^
What is the best strategy with over-optimistic little brothers? Build them up and get them confident that they have an even chance to take down Alabama, thus savoring the beauty of their pride in their fluke year and getting to see a little chest pumping prior to their total dismemberment at the hands of a far superior team, or would it be better to just keep chiming in day after day that doom and national embarassment is around the corner and to enjoy their relatively high status while they have the chance? I am really kind of torn here...
