Bowl Games Open Thread (non-Michigan)

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

There are already a bunch of threads, and more to come, on Michigan's Match-up in the Gator.  But I thought we could use a catch all to discuss the other games, BCS games, Big Ten Games, and other Bowl Games of interest, so we don't get a new thread every time a bowl match up leaks. And through the Bowl Game Announcement shows on ESPN in about an hour.  (One of the other threads already says it's OSU/Arkansas).  So if you hear anything, read anything, or have a reaction to anything after it's announced, let's discuss.

In spite of the look of rage, the raccoon has mastered, I think the trash can is just to tough, however, after a year of battering, and, a year of growth and development, the stronger more mature raccoon with the aid of additional practice time with those posable thumbs, well, I like the chances of the raccoon in a rematch!

The Outback Bowl has PSU-Florida.  That game should get pretty good ratings based on the reputations of those programs more than their teams this year.  I'm pretty sure its on at the same time as the Michigan, so I won't be watching it.  I think Iowa is locked into the Insight Bowl where they could be facing Nebraska, which would be an interesting matchup between our soon to be divisional rivals.

Everything I'm reading is saying Iowa- Mizzou in the Insight.  Apparently they don't want the game to be all "about " the big ten.  This is just what I've read so take it with a grain of salt until it's announced officially.

You won't hear anything until they announce the BCS rankings at 815.  Sparty is waiting to accept a Capital One bowl bid just in case they are able to somehow get a BCS bid, although this is incredibly unlikely.

I agree MSU will be highly outmatched if they play BAMA. One thing that state has going in their favor is motivation. Motivation for coach D to get a win on his former boss, motivation to send off the seniors with a bowl win, motivation for the team to prove themselves that the season was not a fluke. If the opponent is indeed BAMA, then I see the situation similar to the Sugar Bowl from 2years ago where Utah came out with a win. Alabama had no motivation to play in that game and Utah took advantage. Alabama is coming off a national title, was preseason number one, and just lost in epic fashion to send their in state rival to send them to a national championship. I can't imagine that Alabama players would be getting excited to play in the cap one bowl. Apologies if there are grammatical errors because I'm on an iPad and have no idea how to scroll up in the post.

You are being optimistic because the only chance Sparty has to beat Alabama is if they do not get up for this game.  Unfortunately for you, I don't think Alabama has to get up much for this game.  The team that lost a squeaker to Auburn is not going to have much trouble against the team that won a squeaker against Purdue.

It would be matched up with TCU in the ROSE Bowl.  Sure, Alabama is better than getting stuck with, say Mississippi State, for excitement value, but going to the Cap 1 again isn't the same thing as the Rose for the first time in 23 years.  Or any BCS Bowl, ever.

And having Mark May agree with you is not a real backing up of your argument....

This is Sparty's best season in 50 years, 11-1, and they are going to the Capital One bowl where an 8-4 Michigan team made it in back in 2007/08.

One can almost feel sorry for them, almost, but not really.

OSU is marketed as some kind of powerhouse. Sure they've dominated the Indianas and the Purdues, but they haven't done much else. MSU (a team that gets laughed at for their soft schedule) has more victories on the road against bowl teams than OSU does. Frankly, I think Arkansas gives them a lot of trouble and comes away with it.

What is the best strategy with over-optimistic little brothers?  Build them up and get them confident that they have an even chance to take down Alabama, thus savoring the beauty of their pride in their fluke year and getting to see a little chest pumping prior to their total dismemberment at the hands of a far superior team, or would it be better to just keep chiming in day after day that doom and national embarassment is around the corner and to enjoy their relatively high status while they have the chance?  I am really kind of torn here...
